The convolution code(CC) of code rate 1/2 as a forward error correction (FEC) in Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK) is applied to decrease bit error rate (BER) by background noise and multipath in shallow water acoustic channel. Ratio of transmitting signal bandwidth to channel coherence bandwidth is defined as frequency selectivity index. BER and bit energy-to-noise ratio gain of transmitted signal according to frequency selectivity index are evaluated. In the results of indoor water tank experiment, BER is well matched theoretical results at frequency selectivity index less than about 1.0. And bit energy-to-noise ratio gain is also matched theoretical value of 5 dB. BER is effectively decreased at frequency selective multipath channel with frequency selectivity index higher than 1.0. But bit energy-to-noise ratio greater than a certain size in terms of CC weaving is effective in reducing bit errors. In the results, the defined frequency selectivity index in this study could be applied to evaluate a performance of CC in multipath channel. Also it could effectively reduced BER in a low speed underwater acoustic communication system without an equalizer.
An optical current sensor device that measures electric current by the principle of the Faraday effect was designed and fabricated. The polarization-rotated reflection interferometer and the quadrature phase interferometer were introduced so as to improve the operational stability. Complex structures containing diverse optical components were integrated in a polymeric optical integrated circuit and manufactured in a small size. This structure allows sensing operation without extra bias feedback control, and reduces the phase change due to environmental temperature changes and vibration. However, the Verdet constant, which determines the Faraday effect, still exhibits an inherent temperature dependence. In this work, we tried to eliminate the residual temperature dependence of the optical current sensor based on polarization-rotated reflection interferometry. By varying the length of the fiber-optic wave plate, which is one of the optical components of the interferometer, we could compensate for the temperature dependence of the Verdet constant. The proposed optical current sensor exhibited measurement errors maintained within 0.2% over a temperature range, from 25℃ to 85℃.

A digital phase wrapping modulation (DPM) open-loop polar transmitter can be efficiently applied to a wideband orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) communication system by converting in-phase and quadrature signals to envelope and phase signals and then employing the signal mapping process. This mapping process is very similar to quantization in a general communication system, and when taking into account the error that appears during mapping process, one can replace the coordinates rotation digital computer (CORDIC) algorithm in the coordinate conversion part with the Taylor series approximation method. In this paper, we investigate the application of the Taylor series approximation to the cartesian to polar coordinate conversion part of a DPM polar transmitter for wideband OFDM systems. The conventional approach relies on the CORDIC algorithm. To achieve efficient application, we perform computer simulation to measure mean square error (MSE) of the both approaches and find the minimum approximation order for the Taylor series approximation compatible to allowable error of the CORDIC algorithm in terms of hardware design. Furthermore, comparing the processing speeds of the both approaches in the implementation with FPGA reveals that the Taylor series approximation with lower order improves the processing speed in the coordinate conversion part.

In this paper, we designed 1 chip IC for 3-axis gyroscope and 3-axis accelerometer used for various IoT/M2M mobile devices such as smartphone, wearable device and etc. We especially focused on analysis of gyroscope noise and proposed new architecture for removing various noise generated by gyroscope MEMS and IC. Gyroscope, accelerometer and geo-magnetic sensors are usually used to detect user motion or to estimate moving distance, direction and relative position. It is very important element to designing a low noise IC because very small amount of noise may be accumulated and affect the estimated position or direction. We made a mathematical model of a gyroscope sensor, analyzed the frequency characteristics of MEMS and circuit, designed a low noise, compact and low power 1 chip 6-axis inertial sensor IC including 3-axis gyroscope and 3-axis accelerometer. As a result, designed IC has 0.01dps/${\sqrt{Hz}}$ of gyroscope sensor noise density.

Adaptive modulation(AM) is an important technique to increase the system efficiency, in which transmitter selects the most suitable modulation mode adaptively according to channel state in the temporary and spatially varying communication environment. Fixed modulation on channels with varying signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) is that the bit-errorrate(BER) probability performance is changing with the channel quality. An adaptive modulation scheme can be designed to have a BER which is constant for all channel SNRs. The correct as well as fast and simple SNR estimation is required essentially for this adaptive modulation. In order to operate adaptive modulation system effectively, in this paper, we analyze the effect of SNR estimation performance to it through the average BER and data throughput. Applying SNR estimation based on auto-correlation of decision feedback signal and others to adaptive modulation system, we also confirm performance degradation or improvement of its which is decided by SNR estimation error at each transition point of modulation level. Since SNR estimation based on auto-correlation of decision feedback signal shows stable estimation performance for various quadrature amplitude modulation(QAM) comparatively, this can be reduced degradation than others at each transition point of modulation level.
A fiber-optic magnetic sensor system for the detection of small ac magnetic field(200Hz-2 kHz) was constructed. Magnetic field sensing part was fabricated by bonding a section of optical fiber to amorphous metallic glass(2605SC) having large magnetostriction effect. And with the directional coupler, all fiber type Mach-Zehnder interferometer was constructed to measure the variation of the external magnetic field by translating it into the optical phase shift in the interferometer. The signal fading problem of the interferometer, which is due to random phase drifts originated from the environment, i.e., temperature fluctuation, vibrations, etc., was elliminated by feedback phase compensation. This allows the sensitivity to be maintained at the maximum by keeping the interferometer in quadrature phase condition. The frequency response of metallic glass was found to be nearly flat in the range of 90 Hz-2 kHz and dc bias field for the maximum ac response was 3.5 Oe. The interferometer output showed good linearity over the range $\pm$0.5 Oe. For 1 kHz ac magnetic field the scale factor S and the minimum detectable magnetic field were measured to be 8.0 rad/Oe and $3X10^{-6} Oe/\sqrt{Hz}$at 1 Hz detection bandwidth respectively.

A numerical solution method of the boundary integral equation for axisymmetric potential flows is presented. Those are represented by ring source and ring vorticity distribution. Strengths of ring source and ring vorticity are approximated by linear functions of a parameter $\zeta$ on a segment. The geometry of the body is represented by a cubic B-spline. Limiting integral expressions as the field point tends to the surface having ring source and ring vorticity distribution are derived upto the order of ${\zeta}ln{\zeta}$. In numerical calculations, the principal value integrals over the adjacent segments cancel each other exactly. Thus the singular part proportional to $\(\frac{1}{\zeta}\)$ can be subtracted off in the calculation of the induced velocity by singularities. And the terms proportional to $ln{\zeta}$ and ${\zeta}ln{\zeta}$ can be integrated analytically. Thus those are subtracted off in the numerical calculations and the numerical value obtained from the analytic integrations for $ln{\zeta}$ and ${\zeta}ln{\zeta}$ are added to the induced velocity. The four point Gaussian Quadrature formula was used to evaluate the higher order terms than ${\zeta}ln{\zeta}$ in the integration over the adjacent segments to the field points and the integral over the segments off the field points. The root mean square errors, $E_2$, are examined as a function of the number of nodes to determine convergence rates. The convergence rate of this method approaches 2.

Long-range communication in deep waters must overcome the low data rate due to limited bandwidth. This paper presents the performance of Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) system to increase the data rate. In MIMO system, communication performance is degraded by crosstalk between users and an adaptive passive Time Reversal Processing (TRP) is widely used to eliminate this. In October 2018, long-range underwater acoustic communication experiment was conducted in deep water (1,000 m ~) off the east of Pohang, South Korea. During the experiment, a vertical line array was utilized and communication signals modulated by binary phase shift keying and quadrature phase shift keying with a symbol rate of 512 sps were transmitted. To generate MIMO communication signals, received signals from ranges of 26 km and 30 km is synthesized. Compared to the conventional passive TRP, the adaptive passive TRP eliminates the crosstalk between users and achieves error-free performance with an increase of output signal-to-noise ratio. Therefore, two users separated by 4 km in range achieves an aggregate data rate of 1,024 symbols/s.

The increasing use of curved beams in buildings, vehicles, ships, and aircraft has results in considerable effort being directed toward developing an accurate method for analyzing the dynamic behavior of such structures. The stability behavior of elastic curved beams has been the subject of a large number of investigations. Solutions of the relevant differential equations have traditionally been obtained by the standard finite difference. These techniques require a great deal of computer time as the number of discrete nodes becomes relatively large under conditions of complex geometry and loading. One of the efficient procedures for the solution of partial differential equations is the method of differential quadrature. The differential quadrature method(DQM) has been applied to a large number of cases to overcome the difficulties of the complex algorithms of programming for the computer, as well as excessive use of storage due to conditions of complex geometry and loading. In this study, the in-plane extensional vibration for asymmetric curved beams with linearly varying cross-section is analyzed using the DQM. Fundamental frequency parameters are calculated for the member with various parameter ratios, boundary conditions, and opening angles. The results are compared with the result by other methods for cases in which they are available. According to the analysis of the solutions, the DQM, used only a limited number of grid points, gives results which agree very well with the exact ones.

Curved beams are increasingly used in buildings, vehicles, ships, and aircraft, which has resulted in considerable effort being directed toward developing an accurate method for analyzing the dynamic behavior of such structures. The stability behavior of elastic circular arches has been the subject of a large number of investigations. One of the efficient procedures for the solution of ordinary differential equations or partial differential equations is the differential quadrature method DQM. This method has been applied to a large number of cases to overcome the difficulties of the complex computer algorithms, as well as excessive use of storage due to conditions of non-linear geometries, loadings, or material properties. This study uses DQM to analyze the in-plane vibration of the circular arches considering the effects of midsurface extension and rotatory inertia. Fundamental frequency parameters are calculated for the member with various parameter ratios, boundary conditions, and opening angles. The solutions from DQM are compared with exact solutions or other numerical solutions for cases in which they are available and given to analyze the effects of midsurface extension and rotatory inertia on the frequency parameters of the circular arches.
