  • In this paper we have proposed policy-based network management system architecture for Internet QoS support Mobile IP networks that is divided into four layers(application layer, information management layer, policy control layer, device layer), then we propose an implementation strategy of policy-based network management system to enforce various control and network management operations and a model of policy server using SCOPS(Simple Common Open Policy Service) protocol that is developed in this research. For policy-based mobile IP network management system implementation, we have derived four policy classes(access control, mobile IP operation, QoS control, and network monitoring) and we showed operation procedures for each policy scenarios. Finally we have implemented Internet QoS support policy-based mobile IP network testbed and management system and verified out DiffServ policy enforcement behaviors for a target class service that is arranged a specific bandwidth on network congestion conditions.

  • DiffServ supports aggregated traffic classes to provide various QoS to different classes of traffics. However, current DiffServ specifications do not have a complete QoS management framework. It is possible to lead to serious QoS violations without a QoS management support. From this reasoning, a QoS management system that can manage differentiated QoS provisioning is required. This paper proposes and implements a policy-based QoS management platform for differentiated services networks, which specifies QoS policies to guarantee dynamic QoS requirements. The implementation of the proposed platform is built on W framework and uses XML to represent and validate high-level QoS policies. High-level QoS policies are represented as valid XML documents and are mapped into Em beans of the EJB-based policy server of the platform. The policy distribution and the QoS monitoring are processed using SNMP.

  • Differentiated Services (DiffServ) is a technique to provide Quality of Service (QoS) in an efficient and scalable way. However, current DiffServ specifications have limitations in providing the complete QoS management framework and its implementation model. This paper proposes a policy-based QoS management model that supports DiffServ policies for managing QoS of DiffServ networks. The management model conforms to Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture, and is based on Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs) technologies. In our model, high-level DiffServ QoS policies are represented as valid XML documents with an XML Schema and are translated to low-level EJB policy beans in the EJB-based policy server. The routing topology and role information required to define QoS policies is discovered by using SNMP MIB-II, and the QoS policy distribution and monitoring is accomplished by using SNMP DiffServ MIB.

  • To provide Internet QoS, the IETF Proposed two models of Integrated Services (IntServ) and Differentiated Services (DiffServ) Unlike IntServ where resource reservation and admission control is Per-flow based using RSVP. DiffServ supports aggregated traffic classes to provide various QoS to different classes of traffics. However a dynamic QoS management system is required to dynamically provide differentiated QoS for customers who require dynamic QoS change. This paper designed and implemented therefore a policy-based QoS management system to manage effectively and configure dynamically QoS of DiffServ networks. The validity of the system has been verified by the experimentation on the Linux-based DiffServ network.

  • This paper proposes a QoS policy for cellular networks which support the policy based network management scheme. The policy exploits the existing underlying DiffServ mechanism and the priority-based packet scheduler in order to provide the packets with different handling priority depending on their belonging traffic classes. The simulation results reveals the effectiveness of the proposed policy under the network congestion; it shows that the goodput of the real-time traffic is not affected at all in spite of the surge of the non real-time traffic.

  • Policy-based networking offers a network manager the ability to manage the network in a holistic and dynamic fashion rather than force a network manager to manage the network by dealing with each device individually. Policy-based networking is focusing on users and applications instead of emphasizing devices and interfaces. An important part of the policy-based networking is to simplify the task of administration and management for different disciplines. The Defense Information System(DIS) of today are complex and heterogeneous systems. Operational needs are not a trivial task and Quality of Service(QoS) is not generally guaranteed. So, important data may be missed or congested by trivial data. Policy-based networking provide a way to support QoS and simplify the management of multiple devices deploying complex technologies. This paper suggest implementation of policy-based networking in DIS to improvement of performance, and implementation is progressed step by step. Especially this paper is focusing on the providing QoS with policy-based networking using Lightweight Directory Access Protocol(LDAP) Server.

즉, 정책 결정 및 정책 실행과 관련한 정책 기반 QoS 관리 기술 구조와 프로토콜 관련한 COPS(Common Open Policy Service)와 LDAP(Light Weight Directory Access Protocol)을 중심으로 이해가 되어야 하고, 이를 토대로 해서 정책 기반 QoS 관리 기술 서비스가 제공 될 수 있다.

  • Proportional Fair (PF) share policy has been adopted as a downlink scheduling scheme in CDMA2000 l×EV-DO standard. Although It offers optimal performance in aggregate throughput conditioned on equal time share among users, it cannot provide a bandwidth guarantee and a strict delay bound. which is essential requirements of real-time (RT) applications. In this study, we propose a new scheduling policy that provides quality-of-service (QoS) guarantees to a variety of traffic types demanding diverse service requirements. In our policy data traffic is categorized Into three classes, depending on sensitivity of Its performance to delay or throughput. And the primary components of our policy, namely, Proportional Fair (PF), Weighted Fair Queuing (WFQ), and delay-based prioritized scheme are intelligently combined to satisfy QoS requirements of each traffic type. In our policy all the traffic categories run on the PF policy as a basis. However the level of emphasis on each of those ingredient policies is changed in an adaptive manner by taking into account the channel conditions and QoS requirements. Such flexibility of our proposed policy leads to offering QoS guarantees effectively and. at the same time, maximizing the throughput. Simulations are used to verify the performance of the proposed scheduling policy. Experimental results show that our proposal can provide guaranteed throughput and maximum delay bound more efficiently compared to other policies.

  • Opportunistic scheduling provides the capability of resource management in wireless networks by taking advantage of multiuser diversity and by allowing delay variation in delivering data packets. It generally aims to maximize system throughput or guarantee fairness and quality of service (QoS) requirements. In this paper, we develop an extended proportional fair (PF) scheduling policy that can statistically guarantee three kinds of QoS. The scheduling policy is derived by solving the optimization problems in an ideal system according to QoS constraints. We prove that the practical version of the scheduling policy is optimal in opportunistic scheduling systems. As each scheduling policy has some parameters, we also consider practical parameter adaptation algorithms that require low implementation complexity and show their convergences mathematically. Through simulations, we confirm that our proposed schedulers show good fairness performance in addition to guaranteeing each user's QoS requirements.

  • In this paper we propose a QoS policy, which is based on both DSCP and SPQ, appropriate to TPS users on optical subscriber network. Then we experiment and evaluate QoS policy through the test bed which emulates real optical subscriber network. In order to perform effective and real experiment on test bed we make test traffic equivalent to 400 TPS users and give it to test bed. The experimental result shows that no packet loss in real time service traffic such as voice, IPTV occurs during more than 4 hours. We think that our proposed QoS policy is a proper method which guarantees the service quality of real time services on optical subscriber network.
