  • This study aimed to analyze the influence relations by applying Q methodology to five-star hotel restaurants' culinary staffs through the research on the subjectivity of five-star hotels' restaurant menu promotion on culinary staffs' job satisfaction and work devotion. This paper largely suggested two research questions like following. Research Question 1: How is the acceptance type of culinary staffs' job satisfaction and work devotion regarding five-star hotels' restaurant promotion? Research Question2: What are the homogeneous characteristics and the implications shown in the acceptance type of culinary staffs' job satisfaction and work devotion regarding five-star hotels' restaurant promotion? In the results of typological analysis based on such research questions, total three types were drawn. In detail, the type1(N=13)(Active personal development type), the type2(N=10)(Normal menu pursuit type), and type3(N=2(Enterprise development pursuit type) showed distinctive characteristics to each other. Researching five-star hotels' culinary staffs' subjective cases, this study could not comparatively analyze diverse cases. Also, in the future, the follow-up research aims to gradually conduct more diversified and objective analysis by developing more detailed questions and analysis method of Q methodology.

Experience in Widow's Bereavement: Q Methodology - Widow Below 2 Years Bereavement - (배우자 사별여성들의 경험: Q 방법론 적용 - 2년 미만의 사별여성을 중심으로 -)

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to identify the types of widow's bereavement experience and understand the nature of it's bereavement by using Q-methodological approach. Methods: Contents Q sample included 46 statements obtained from literatures and interviews with 5 widows. P sample consisted of 13 widows who bereaved within 2 years. The data were collected from October 2004 to December 2006 and analyzed using Quanal program. Results: Two types of widow's experience were found. Type 1 was characterized by loss suffering, and type 2 was characterized by acceptance and adaptation Conclusion: Widows were found to experience different types of bereavement. Therefore, bereavement care team should assess the types of suffering pain and provide appropriate care to the widows. Also, need to be developed programs to relieve or prevent suffering of bereavement.

A Q-Methodological Study on the Community Nursing Practice of Nursing Students (간호 학생의 지역사회간호 실습 경험에 대한 유형 분석 -Q방법론적 접근-)

  • This study measures the subjectivity of nursing students' experience in community fields through community nursing practice. The purpose of this study is as follows: 1) to find out typologies based on opinions and attitudes toward community nursing practice. 2) to describe the characteristic of each type. 3) to provide alternative strategies for solving community nursing practice problems. A Q-Methodological method was used for that purpose. As a research method, Q-statements were collected through indepth interviews and review of the current literature. For this study 34 Q-statements were selected. 24 nursing students were subjects for the research. The 24 nursing students sorted 34 Q-statements using the principle of Forced Normal Distribution. The principle of Forced Normal Distribution, which has nine scales to measure individual opinions, was called, a Q- Factor Analysis by using a PC Quanl Program to supply the material. According to the results of this study, there were three categories of opinion concerning community nursing practice. The first type is the realistic problem-oriented approach: the second type is the self-responsibility or pursuit of life meaning approach: the third type is the group approach for problem solving. As a result, we need to develop and revise a more realistic way of community nursing practice for nursing students. Finally, the result of this study will provide to the educational program alternative strategies for community nursing practice for nursing students.

Segmenting Korean Millennial Consumers of Sharing Economy Services on Social Networking: A Psychographic-based Approach (소셜 네트워크 기반 공유경제 서비스에 관한 밀레니얼스 소비자 세분화 연구: 사이코그래픽 관점에서)

  • The purpose of this qualitative study is to explore consumer behavioral trends, psychological characteristics and various cognitive types of Millennial Generation consumers, primarily in their 20s, who are familiar with sharing economy services based on the emerging social networking technology. Using Q methodology, this paper theoretically defines four and interprets via a social science perspective four different types of these young consumers who are skilled at state-of-the-art ICT equipment, devices or online networking services. Sharing economy services in Korea's academic and industrial services are influenced by government policy, and related research is relatively new. This study is focused on discovering unique psychographic characteristics called 'schemata' that include personal interest, preference, attitude, and opinion. On the basis of 40 Q-sorted data samples, the analysis examined 180 collected statements from meta-studies and interviews with 35 individuals born between 1997 and 1992. As a result, four consumer groups were identifies: Type 1 'Early majority', Type 2 'Laggard', Type 3 'Opinion leader', and Type 4 'Late majority'. The results of this research can be used to explore to study in greater detail the behavior and psychological aspects of Millennial General consumers'.

  • This study is designed to expand 'Q-Methodology' into the global marketing realm in attempt to find out how Canadian consumers will perceive Korean food. The ultimate aim of this thesis is to lay a basic foundation to globalize Korean food and heighten the potential and quality of Korean food. Korean food, well-known as slow diet, jumps on the bandwagon of the Korean Wave and spreads at a rapid pace. At this point, most Korean food becomes widespread under the influence of the boom of not just the Korean Wave but also the growing desire for health food. Hence, it is the most important to analyze consumers' types in order to learn how each individual nation perceives Korean Food. This can be used as the basic research and study to enhance the national competitiveness of Korean food. Q-methodology is adopted in this study to reveal the critical dimensions and characteristics of the target market and/or consumers for Korean Food using the Canadian respondents' subjective attributes. Three categories (pragmatic trend type, traditional culture seeking type, a beginner type) of Canadian consumer behavior regarding Korean Food are found and suggested in this study. The objective attributes of Korean food are not considered here, but the Canadian consumers' subjective behavioral attributes are.

An Exploratory Study on Social Participation Needs among the Elderly: Q-Methodological Approach (노년기 사회참여 욕구에 관한 탐색적 연구: Q 방법론의 적용)

  • This study aims to explore social participation needs among the elderly in Korea from the perspective of the elderly participant's. 40 Q-samples are drawn from the Q-population including attitudes and needs toward social participation in later life based on news articles, essays, research, documentary, and television shows. 35 subjects are analysed by the QUANL program and the types of social participation needs are divided into four patterns which accounted for 60.16% of the total variance. The elderly's portrayal of an ideal social participation is about making independent decisions and being able to actively participate in the activities they chose to do. However, their most undesirable scenario would be being confused and uncertain of what they should do the remainder of their lives. The needs of social participation among the elderly varies on four indicators such as ego, social capital, life satisfaction, life vitality and these four indicators have two sub-categories with a total of 8 types of classification. These 8 types differ by priorities, adaptation to life changes, motivation to social participation, and desired activity. Findings suggest that researchers and policy makers need to consider service user perspective on social participation in later life, not service provider perspective.

A Study on the Subjectivity of Hotel Employees about Followership (팔로워십에 대한 호텔직원의 주관성 연구)

  • This study aims to identify the types and characteristics of followership perceived by hotel employees as emotional workers in terms of the diagnosis of their fellowship awareness toward their managers and the detailed patterns of subjective followership. The Q methodology is applied to find out the types of followership of hotel employees, the similarities and differences between each type, and the meanings of each type. A total of 40 questions are selected for the Q sample. The analysis shows that there are four types such as 'organizational oriented', 'individual oriented', 'adaptive oriented' and 'critical passive oriented'. It also shows that each type has a unique characteristic, and identifies the items in the all four types that they share or do not. This study is expected to present a new perspective on hotel management by identifying the characteristics of the followership from the perspective of the hotel staff who are supposed to do some emotional labor caused by the emotional dissonance hotel staff suffer.

The observation experience of nursing students toward delivery (간호학생의 분만관찰 경험 : Q 방법론을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to classify subjective structure of observation experience toward delivery on nursing students. A Q-methodological approach that gives information about the way of analyzing the subjectivity of each item was used. Q population was performed for analyzing through interview and literature review. From this, ultimately, a final Q sample of 35 statements was obtained. The P sample sorted the Q sample for observation experience toward delivery. The collected data was analyzing using PC QUANL program, which revealed three distinctive types of delivery experience about nursing students. Type 1 is a sympathy towards delivery woman, type 2 is a requirement of care. And type 3 is a future of analogical inference of delivery type. In conclusion, it is needed not only to give high quality of nursing service but also to have a right job value based on proper understanding of patient. Also, it is recommended about education of nursing students for making right view of value based on the three types of delivery experience.

The Types and Characteristics of the Male Nurses Perceived by Female Nurses : An Application of Q- Methodology (여자간호사가 인식하는 남자간호사의 유형 및 특성 : Q 방법론적 접근)

  • The aim of this study was to identify the female nurses' perception of the types and characteristics of male nurses using Q-methodology, which can explore human subjectivity. The 35 selected Q-statements from each of 35 subjects were classified into a normal distribution using a 9 point scale. The collected data was analyzed using the PC-QUANL program. Principal Component Analysis identified 3 types of perception toward male nurses. Type 1 was classified as 'development-oriented support type', Type 2 was classified as 'realistic critical type', and Type 3 was classified as 'conservative acceptance type'. The consensus of opinion in each type was 'Male nurses are under stress due to the unique characteristics of a female-dominated workplace'. These results will contribute to the perception improvement of female nurses toward male nurses by developing arbitration programs based on the three types.
