Design Methodology for Optimal Phase-Shift Modulation of Non-Inverting Buck-Boost Converters

  • The non-inverting buck-boost converter (NIBB) is a step-up and step-down DC-DC converter suitable for wide-input-voltage-range applications. However, when the input voltage is close to the output voltage, the NIBB needs to operate in the buck-boost mode, causing a significant efficiency reduction since all four switches operates in the PWM mode. Considering both the current stress limitation and the efficiency optimization, a novel design methodology for the optimal phase-shift modulation of a NIBB in the buck-boost mode is proposed in this paper. Since the four switches in the NIBB form two bridges, the shifted phase between the two bridges can serve as an extra degree of freedom for performance optimization. With general phase-shift modulation, the analytic current expressions for every duty ratio, shifted phase and input voltage are derived. Then with the two key factors in the NIBB, the converter efficiency and the switch current stress, taken into account, an objective function with constraints is derived. By optimizing the derived objective function over the full input voltage range, an offline design methodology for the optimal modulation scheme is proposed for efficiency optimization on the premise of current stress limitation. Finally, the designed optimal modulation scheme is implemented on a DSPs and the design methodology is verified with experimental results on a 300V-1.5kW NIBB prototype.

  • AC 구동 시스템에서의 회생에너지의 활용은 1990년대 본 방식이 산업계의 표준 방식이 된 이후 오랜 기간동안 이슈화 되어 왔다. 회생에너지의 크기에 따라 저용량의 경우에는 제동저항으로 소모시키는 방식이 일반적이었으나, 이러한 에너지의 활용이 적극적으로 논의외면서 회생용 컨버터를 장착하는 방식이 보급되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 종래의 전원회생 컨버터방식의 최대 단점으로 언급되고 있는 순환전류의 저감을 위해 절연형 회생 컨버터 방식을 제안하였다. 에너지 절감차원에서 일정 용량이상의 AC 드라이브 시스템에는 회생에너지를 활용하기 위한 전원회생 컨버터 시스템을 채용하는 것이 일반적이나, 시스템의 구조 상 순환전류가 발생하게 되어, 이로 인한 효율의 저하 역시 필연적으로 발생된다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 순환전류를 해결하기 위한 절연형 전원회생 컨버터 방식을 제안하였고, 가능성을 검증하기 위한 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과 기존의 시스템에서 나타난 정격대비 20%의 순환전류가 제안된 시스템에서는 나타나지 않음을 확인하였고 제안된 시스템의 타당성을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • An electro proportional pressure control valve is mainly used to control the clutch of an agricultural tractor's automatic transmission. During transmission, the operating, hydraulic oil is mix with many kinds of contaminants. The contaminants can be trapped between the valve body and spool of the proportional pressure control valve leading to abnormal operating conditions and finally critical damage to the transmission hydraulic system. The present study aimed to verify the valve control algorithm as a basic study of developing control logic that removes contaminants between the spool and the body of the proportional pressure control valve. To develop the algorithm, MATLAB/SIMULINK was used. PWM method was used to control the applied solenoid coil current. The effectiveness of the algorithm was verified by comparing the actual pressure of the normal valve with the actual pressure of the abnormal valve. Based on the present study findings, when the algorithm was applied, the response of the valve pressure according to the current became stable and oil contaminated particles were removed. In the future study, the control algorithm will be optimized for the stability of the proportional pressure reducing valve, and it will be verified in consideration with the driving of the clutch.

차량용 LED 매트릭스 헤드램프 제어를 위한 LED 제어 프로토콜 설계 및 제어기 구현 (Protocol Design and Controller Implementation of Automotive LED Matrix Headlamp Control)

  • LED 매트릭스를 사용하는 차량용 헤드램프에서 LED의 디지털 제어는 I2C, SPI 등의 저가격 저속 직렬 버스를 사용하여 왔으나 헤드램프의 해상도가 증가하면서 LED 제어를 위해 전송해야 하는 데이터의 양이 너무 많아 제어 버스의 전송 능력을 초과하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 새로운 차량용 LED 매트릭스 헤드램프 제어 프로토콜인 HLCP(Headlamp LED Control Protocol)을 제안한다. 제안하는 프로토콜은 많은 LED를 하나의 명령어로 제어하는 명령어를 사용하여 I2C 버스를 거의 그대로 사용하면서도 훨씬 많은 LED를 제어할 수 있다. 제안하는 프로토콜을 수행하는 컨트롤러를 Verilog HDL로 구현 및 검증하였으며 시뮬레이션 결과 LED 매트릭스 헤드램프를 I2C나 SPI보다 효율적으로 제어할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

전력변환기 병렬운전을 위한 펄스폭 정보를 이용한 새로운 통신방식 (New Communication Method using Pulse Width Information for Power Converter Parallel Operation )

  • Recently, demand for technology for energy economy and stable supply is increasing due to the increase in power demand of loads. The amount of DC power generation using new and renewable energy is noticeably increasing, and the use of DC power supplies is also increasing due to the increase in electric vehicles and digital loads. During parallel operation to increase the capacity of the power converter, the module bus method or the method using Can communication and serial communication has significant difficulties in smooth operation due to communication time delay for information sharing. Synchronization of information sharing of each power converter is essential for smooth parallel operation, and minimization of communication time delay is urgently needed as a way to overcome this problem. In this paper, a new communication method using pulse width information is proposed as a communication method specialized for parallel operation of power converters to compensate for the disadvantage of communication transmission delay in the existing system. The proposed communication method has the advantage of being easily implemented using the PWM and Capture function of the microcomputer. In addition, the DC/DC converter for DC distribution was verified through simulation and experiment, and it has the advantage of easy capacity expansion when applied to parallel operation of various types of power converters as well as DC/DC converters.

항공무장 안정성 향상을 위한 날개 전개 구동기의 작동로직 설계 (Deployment Actuator Logic Design for Enhancing Aircraft Armament Stability)

  • For the high reliability of guidance weapon, it is important to maintain the stable supply voltage for guidance system while the bomb is gliding. However, the DC motor drive for guidance control in the low temperature can lead to the critical voltage drop due to a large inrush current. In this paper, we propose the wing deployment logic design to enhance the guidance system stability. To derive the stable drive logic based on PWM, we controlled the duty cycles for input voltage of DC motor in low temperature. The initial duty cycle was set to 40 % to relieve the inrush current. Moreover, the proper time, which is less than 1 second for controlling duty cycles, was determined by the iterative wing deployments of guidance kit. Finally, the validity of proposed logic was confirmed from the result the maximum voltage drop for the wing deployment was decreased by 23 %.

Motor Control IP Design and Quality Evaluation from the Viewpoint of Reuse (ICCAS 2004)

  • In this paper we designed the motor control IP Core and evaluate its quality from the viewpoint of IP reuse. The most attractive merit of this methodology, so called IP-based hardware design, is hardware reuse. Although various vendors designed hardware with the same specification and got the same functional results, all that IPs is not the same quality in the reuse aspect. As tremendous calls for SoC have been increased, associated research about IP quality standard, VSIA(Virtual Socket Interface Alliance) and STARC(Semiconductor Technology Academic Research Center), has been doing best to make the IP quality evaluation system. And they made what conforms to objective IP design standard. We suggest the methodology to evaluate our own designed motor control IP quality with this standard. To attain our goal, we designed motor control IP that could control the motor velocity and position with feedback compensation algorithm. This controller has some IP blocks : digital filter, quadrature decoder, position counter, motion compensator, and PWM generator. Each block's functionality was verified by simulator ModelSim and then its quality was evaluated. To evaluate the core, We use Vnavigator for lint test and ModelSim for coverage check. During lint process, We adapted the OpenMORE's rule based on RMM (Reuse Methodology Manual) and it could tell us our IP's quality in a manner of the scored value form. If it is high, its quality is also high, and vice versa. During coverage check ModelSim-SE is used for verifying how our test circuits cover designs. This objective methods using well-defined commercial coverage metrics could perform a quantitative analysis of simulation completeness. In this manner, We evaluated the designed motor control IP's quality from the viewpoint of reuse. This methodology will save the time and cost in designing SoC that should integrate various IPs. In addition to this, It can be the guide for comparing the equally specified IP's quality. After all, we are continuously looking forward to enhancing our motor control IP in the aspect of not only functional perfection but also IP reuse to prepare for the SoC-Compliant motor control IP design.

저속 센서리스 제어의 역기전력 추정 성능 향상을 위한 모터 파라미터 추정과 전압 오차의 개선 (Identification of Motor Parameters and Improvement of Voltage Error for Improvement of Back-emf Estimation in Sensorless Control of Low Speed Operation)

  • This paper propose a method to identify the motor parameters and improve input voltage error which affect the low speed position error of the back-emf(back electromotive force) based sensorless algorithm and to secure the operation reliability and stability even in the case where the load fluctuation is severe and the start and low speed operation frequently occurs. In the model-based observer used in this paper, stator resistance, inductance, and input voltage are particularly influential factors on low speed performance. Stator resistance can cause resistance value fluctuation which may occur in mass production process, and fluctuation of resistance value due to heat generated during operation. The inductance is influenced by the fluctuation due to the manufacturing dispersion and at a low speed where the change of the current is severe. In order to find stator resistance and inductance which have different initial values and fluctuate during operation and have a large influence on sensorless performance at low speed, they are commonly measured through 2-point calculation method by 2-step align current injection. The effect of voltage error is minimized by offsetting the voltage error. In addition, when the command voltage is used, it is difficult to estimate the back-emf due to the relatively large distortion voltage due to the dead time and the voltage drop of the power device. In this paper, we propose a simple circuit and method to detect the voltage by measuring the PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) pulse width and compensate the voltage drop of the power device with the table, thereby minimizing the position error due to the exact estimation of the back-emf at low speed. The suitability of the proposed algorithm is verified through experiment.

  • 비선형 반도체 전력변화장치의 사용이 급증함에 따라 전원 측에 발생되는 고조파 및 무효전력을 보상하기 위한 능동전력필터에 관한 연구가 많이 이루어져 왔으며 실용화를 위한 노력이 계속 되고 있다. 그러나 수동필터 대비 능동전력필터의 가격이 아직까지는 고가이기 때문에 이의 상용화가 더디게 진전되고 있는 추세이며, 특히 소·중용량의 능동전력필터의 제어를 위하여 디지털 신호 처리용 프로세서인 DSP(digital signal processor)를 사용하는 경우 아직까지 그 가격이 고가이기 때문에 능동필터의 제어가격을 상승시키는 요인으로 작용한다. 한편 능동전력필터의 가격을 낮추기 위해 아날로그 제어기만을 도입하는 경우 제어회로가 너무 복잡해 지고 제어의 유연성이 떨어지는 단점을 수반하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 3상 5[kVA]급 농동전력필터의 저가형 제어기를 구현하기 위해 저가의 원칩 마이크로프로세서인 80C196KC를 사용하영 디지털 제어부를 구성하며 이를 통해 보상전류 성분의 계산 및 직류단 일정 전압제어를 수행하고, 능동필터 시스템의 전류제어를 위하여 아날로글 형태의 제어기인 히스테리시스 제어기를 함께 사용한다. 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통해서 보상 시스템의 특성을 해석하였으며 실험에 의해 능동전력필터의 저가화를 위해 설계된 제어기가 고조파 및 무효전력 보상을 충실히 수행함을 확인하였다.

  • 능동제어형 전계방출 디스플레이의 전자공급원으로서 능동제어형 전계 에미터 어레이의 회로모델이 제안되었다. 능동제어형 전계 에미터 어레이는 전계방출을 안정화시키고 저전력구동을 위한 수소화 된 비정질 실리콘 박막 트랜지스터와 Spindt형 Mo 전계 에미터 어레이로 구성되었고 같은 유리기판 위에 제작되었다. 비정질 박막 트랜지스터와 Spindt형 Mo 전계 에미터 어레이의 전기적 특성으로부터 추출된 기본 모델 변수는 제안된 능동제어형 전계 에미터 어레이 회로모델에 입력되었고 SPICE 회로 시뮬레이터를 사용하여 특성을 분석하였다. 제작된 소자의 측정값과 DC 시뮬레이션 결과를 비교한 결과 두 값이 상당히 일치함으로써 등가회로 모델의 정확성을 확인하였다. 또한 제작된 소자의 transient 시뮬레이션 결과 전계 에미터 어레이의 게이트 커패시턴스와 TFT의 구동능력이 반응시간에 가장 크게 영향을 끼치고 있음을 확인하였다. 제작된 능동제어형 전계방출 에미터 어레이는 pulse width modulation으로 구동하는 경우 15㎲의 반응시간을 얻었고 이 값으로는 4bit/color의 계조(gray scale)표현이 가능하였다.
