Cracks in concrete can submit shear forces by virtue of the roughness of their interfaces. With regard to this roughness, the crack faces play an important role. By transmitting normal and shear stress across their faces, shear cracks contribute to shear resistance. This process is called shear transfer or more generally, shear friction. Both experimental and analytical program to investigate shear transfer mechanism in normal and high strength concrete were included in this study. The parameters investigated in push-off test included the concrete strength, the presence and amounts of steel stirrups, and aggregate size. Solution procedure based on the truss model was developed to analyze the shear transfer behavior. In general, it can be seen that the analytical results agree well with results of shear transfer test.
The full-width, full-depth precast panel system is very efficient for the rehabilitation of deteriorated decks as well as for new bridge construction.. The horizontal bond strength at the interface between the two interconnected elements is of primary importance in order to achieve composite action. The strength of the bond between the two precast members should be high enough to prevent any progressive slip from taking place. However, the case when both of the interconnected elements are precast members bonded by means of grout, is not currently addressed by KBDC or AASHTO. This is the main impetus for this study. A total 43 push-off tests were performed to evaluate the horizontal bond strength and to recommend the best practice for the system. Test parameters included different interface surface conditions, different amount and different types of shear connectors. The presence of the shear keys at the top surface of the beam increased the interface bond capacity tremendously compared to the bond capacity with a different surface conditions.
A new shear connection for the application of precast decks to PSC girders was proposed and push-off tests were conducted to evaluate the horizontal shear strength of the shear connection. Major parameters of the tests were connector type, shank area, vertical load, surface condition and bedding height. Judging from the test results, shear strength of the suggested shear connection was proportional to the shank area and yield strength of the connectors and was in inverse proportion to the bedding height. Shear connection with shear key at the surface showed better performance. An empirical equation for the evaluation of the shear strength of the shear connection without considering bond strength was proposed and it showed good correlation with the test results.
A study on static and dynamic socket pressure distributions on a trans-femoral amputee with a suction socket was performed in order to assess an optimal socket fitting and function. Even for the amputee's static neutral position, pressure concentrations were observed in the lateral, medial, and posterior planes of the socket. During free walking, a significant movement of pressure concentration areas was observed. Large socket pressure was observed in the lateral, medial-anterior and posterior walls during mid-stance or push-off period. Socket pressure measurement will be one of the good tool to determine the optimal socket-limb interface.
During driving an automobile, drivers push the clutch and transmit gear by their feeling. At the automobile which have the manually operated gear box by using apart designed equipment, for get the semi-auto function, a lot of research to realize the system which have passive transmission and automotive transmission has developed. In this paper, basically using one chip .mu.-comcontrolled the clutch of automobile by means of LPF, F/V converter and TR driver circuit which is designed. In the past, it was controlled the motor by operating relay which is int eh output system to control the clutch. This system some noises is made by on and off the relay, lessen the motor speed and causes many error due to consume the large power on driving the motor. In this paper, to solve these problems the output TR is operated by using one chip .mu.-com decrease the electic power consumption and designed the actuator to control the clutch by measns of vacuum.
Use of composite steel construction with precast hollow core slabs is now popular in the UK, but the present knowledge in shear capacity of the headed shear studs for this type of composite construction is very limited. Currently, all the information is based on the results obtained from experimental push-off tests. A finite element model to simulate the behaviour of headed stud shear connection in composite beam with precast hollow core slabs is described. The model is based on finite element method and takes into account the linear and non-linear behaviour of all the materials. The model has been validated against the test results, for which the accuracy of the model used is demonstrated. Parametric studies showing the effect of the change in transverse gap size, transverse reinforcement diameter and in-situ concrete strength on the shear connection capacity are presented.
One important test for formation and grading of the lithium-ion battery is to confirm the performance of the battery while discharging battery down to zero volts. In this paper, a novel charge/discharge converter with zero-voltage discharge function is proposed. The proposed converter is able to discharge the battery until the voltage reaches to zero volts. The phase-shifted full bridge method is used to charge the battery and the current-fed push-pull method with bidirectional switches is used for the discharge. The ZVS turn-on is achieved in the charge operation and the ZVS turn-off in the discharge operation. The performance of the system is verified by the experiments using lithium-ion batteries.
GMT secondary mirror system consists of 7 segmented adaptive mirrors. Each segment consists of a thin shell mirror, actuators and a reference body. The thin shell has a few millimeters of thickness so that it can be easily bent by push and pull force of actuators to compensate the wavefront disturbance of light due to air turbulence. The one end of actuator is supported by the reference body and the other end is adapted to this thin shell. One of critical role of the reference body is to provide the reference surface for the thin shell actuators. Therefore, the reference body is one of key components to succeed in development of GMT ASM. Recently, Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) and University of Arizona (UA) has signed a contract that they will cooperate to develop the first set of off-axis reference body for GMT ASM. This project started August 2021 and will be finished in Dec. 2022. The reference body has total 675 holes to accommodate actuators and 144 pockets for lightweighting. The rear surface has a curved rib shape with radius of curvature of 4387 mm with offset of 128.32mm. Since this reference body is placed just above the thin shell so that the front surface shape needs to be close to that of thin shell. The front surface has a concave off-axis asphere, of which radius of curvature is 4165.99 mm and off-axis distance is about 1088 mm. The material is Zerodur CTE class 1 (CTE=0.05 ppm/oC) from SCHOTT. All the actuator holes and pockets are machined normal to the front surface. It is a very complex challenging optical elements that involves sophisticated machining process as well as accurate metrology. After finishing the fabrication of reference body in KRISS, it will be shipped to UA for final touches and finally sent to Adoptica in Italy, in early 2023. This paper presets the development plan for the GMT ASM Reference Body and relevant fabrication and metrology plans.
