Data was collected from female college students with fashion products purchase experience at online shopping malls by questionnaire survey (N=424) and analyzed by using frequency analysis, t-test and ANOVA. Results showed that consumers respondents tended to read product description and other consumer replies before purchasing, when shopping for fashion products through an on-line shopping mall. They thought that sellers' product description and the consumers' replies were helpful in making their decision; but, they were also skeptical about product description. Respondents showed higher perceived reliability, preference and purchase intention to the factual-information type product description than the evaluation-sentimental type. Positive consumer replies were more effective in yielding higher preferences and purchase intentions. Factual replies tend to yield higher reliability than evaluative replies.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in the dissatisfaction with and design preferences for mountain gear among the segments divided by specialization activity-pursued for recreational mountaineering. Data were collected by questionnaire survey from 900 subjects with the experiences of mountaineering and purchasing mountain gear in the past year, and 891 were used for the data analysis. The results of the study were as follows: Three factors were formulated based on mountaineering specialization activity-pursued: expertise-pursued mountaineering, mountaineering with psychological attachment and activity-oriented mountaineering. Four segments were identified based on the specialization activity-pursued: the emotionally-committed, the continuously-participated, the expertise-pursued, and the passively-participated. Significant differences were found in dissatisfaction with and design preference for mountain gear among the segments. The expertise-pursued tended to be more dissatisfied with color and fabric than the others, and preferred various mountain gear design of shape, color combination and construction line. On the other hand, the passively-participated tended to prefer simple and comfortable style with solid color and simple color combination.

The conclusion were as follows: 1. The analysis of underwear wearing practices for the women in the pregnancy of eight months or longer and those after the delivery within one month showed that about 80-90% of them wore panties or brassieres and about 70% of them did not wear girdles, thus with a lower level for girdles than for panties or brassieres. 2. The surveys of the satisfaction and fit for two designs each with the high wearing frequency did not show any relatively significant difference in assessment by the design. The analysis of the satisfaction by the part with the maternity underwear indicated that in the case of panties the respondents were dissatisfied with the length as to be long, and also dissatisfied with waist circumference, abdomen circumference, private parts, and groin as to be small, reflecting that the circumference coverage of the panties in the market was not effectively managed.

  • The image and impression characteristics of the consumer electronic products have become an important factor in purchasing decisions. This study aims to analyze and interpret the image and impression characteristics based on the consumer preference survey. The survey consisted of two parts. First part was to measure the predetermined 52 design variables that can represent the design variables of the products. In the second part, 60 subjects were requested to evaluate 36 audio/video electronic products on 25 different image attributes such as luxuriousness, attractiveness, and granularity. In this study, empirical data from the survey were analyzed through various multivariate analysis and ANOVA analysis. Additionally, this study suggested a statistical procedure that can be applied to select and/or screen critical design variables. It is expected that the results of this study can provide practical information to the designers of consumer electronic products.

  • The emotional quality of the product have become an important factor in purchasing decision. Classical approach of product design has focused on providing proper functions of the product. However, as the life-cycle of products become shorter and the customer's needs get more diversified, it is now necessary to accommodate the customer's emotional requirement in product design. This study aims to analyze and interpret the emotional characteristics based customer preference survey. This study consisted of two part. First part was to search the optimal combination of design variables through DOE of predetermined 5 design variables. In the second part, we developed customer preference index model to measure the customer preferences about 16 different wood flooring product.
