  • urpose: This thesis is a study the Night myopia was surveyed by Subjective refraction and Objective refraction (Dark retinoscopy), and analyzed the relationship between them. It also looked at the relation between Night myopia and pupil size. Methods: 82 adult subjects (ages of 19 to 44, 44 males and 38 females) were examined by Subjective refraction and Objective refraction in the light place. Then Night myopia and pupil size were examined by Subjective refraction and Objective refraction in the dark again. The Statistics were analyzed by SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science). Results: As the subjects became younger, the observed Night myopia was getting higher in both Subjective refraction, $x^2$=219.48 (p<0.01) and Objective refraction, $x^2$=241.98 (p<0.01). The relationship was statistically significant by showing large pupil size, $x^2$=151.74 (p<0.01). In Objective refraction, as pupil size became larger in the dark place, so did Night myopia, $x^2$=84.27 (p<0.01), reaching a statistically significant correlation, however, the correlation was low in Subjective refraction. In Subjective refraction, observed Night myopia was 73%, 64 examples of 88 examples, a standard of 0.96${\pm}$0.4584D in ${\pm}$0.25D, in male examples, and it was 64%, 49 examples of 76 examples, a standard of 1.01${\pm}$0.4509D in ${\pm}$0.25D, in female examples. In Objective refraction, it was 48%, 42 examples of 88 examples, in standard of 0.85${\pm}$0.4651D in ${\pm}$0.25D, in male examples. And it was 71%, 54 examples of 76 examples, in standard of 0.96${\pm}$0.4133D in ${\pm}$0.25D, in female examples. Conclusions: Night myopia which is measured by both methods, observed as $x^2$=265.35 (p<0.01) and showed a large relationship. The correlation between the two refractions suggests that observed night myopia diopter by Subjective refraction could be used as correction of night myopia.

  • Purpose: To investigate the effect of corneal unique shape to changes of refractive full corrections when pupil size changes. Methods: Subjective refraction for monocular full correction was performed to 30 subjects ($23.33{\pm}1.78$ of age, 60 eyes) in two room conditions, 760 lx and 2 lx, respectively. Pupillary diameter was measured in two conditions and the change pattern was analyzed using a peak data of corneal topography. Results: Pupillary diameter was 3.74~4.00 mm in 760 lx and 5.52~5.90 mm in 2 lx. By comparison with refractive data in 760 lx, those data in 2 lx was changed as follows: more (-) spherical power of 17 eyes (28.3%), more (+) spherical power of 10 eyes (17.7%), more (-) cylinderical power of 17 eyes (28.8%), less (-) cylinderical power of 9 eyes (15.3%), and astigmatic axis rotation of 36 eyes (62.1%). From peak data of corneal topography, the changing pattern of two principal meridians was classified into 4 types. Conclusions: Expansion of the corneal refractive surface accompanied with pupillary dilation may be a main factor that effects the changing a values of subjective refraction because of unique corneal shape. Therefore, subjective refraction should be performed under the nearest lighting condition to a main living environment.

  • Recently, there has been tremendous increase in human-computer/machine interaction system, where the goal is to provide with an appropriate service to the user at the right time with minimal human inputs for human augmented cognition system. To develop an efficient human augmented cognition system based on human computer/machine interaction, it is important to interpret the user's implicit intention, which is vague, in addition to the explicit intention. According to cognitive visual-motor theory, human eye movements and pupillary responses are rich sources of information about human intention and behavior. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for the identification of human implicit visual search intention based on eye movement pattern and pupillary analysis such as pupil size, gradient of pupil size variation, fixation length/count for the area of interest. The proposed model identifies the human's implicit intention into three types such as navigational intent generation, informational intent generation, and informational intent disappearance. Navigational intent refers to the search to find something interesting in an input scene with no specific instructions, while informational intent refers to the search to find a particular target object at a specific location in the input scene. In the present study, based on the human eye movement pattern and pupillary analysis, we used a hierarchical support vector machine which can detect the transitions between the different implicit intents - navigational intent generation to informational intent generation and informational intent disappearance.

  • We analyze aberrations in an optical laser printer system in order to know how to determine an allowable non-uniformity of the movement of a light spot, how to determine allowed variation of spot sizes, and how to minimize the influence of these deviations on technological errors. In this paper, the correction and the tolerance of distortion are analyzed by using the concept of zonal and global distortions. The tolerance of field curvature is also obtained from Gaussian beam properties. In order to reduce the change of the entrance pupil position and to make a more compact laser printer system the minimum size of the rotator is exactly derived from the geometry with the introduction of the shift angle of the input beam.

  • Purpose : We investigated the change of spherical and comma aberrations after wearing aspheric soft contact lens (ASCL) in young myopes. Methods : Fifty young myopes ($23.15{\pm}1.70years$, spherical equivalent: $-2.90{\pm}1.75D$) were recruited and refractive errors were corrected using ASCL (Biotrue, Bausch+Lomb, USA). High order aberrations were measured in the 4 mm pupil size using the wavefront analyze and pupil sizes were measured with a pupillometer at the modes of scotopic condition (light off) at 3.5 m in the 100 lx illuminance condition. Results : Spherical aberrations and coma aberration of the 20s myopes were $0.026{\pm}0.031{\mu}m$ and $0.078{\pm}0.039{\mu}m$ respectively, and $0.019{\pm}0.026{\mu}m$ and $0.082{\pm}0.038{\mu}m$ after ASCL wear that spherical aberration was decreased and coma aberration was increased. However, spherical aberration was decreased in the 68% of the subject have positive spherical aberration, and increased in the 11% of the subject have negative spherical aberration. Coma aberration was increased in the 53% of the subject, did not change in the 19% of the subjects, and decreased in the 28% of the subject. Spherical aberration was not different with the refractive errors in low and moderate myopies, however, coma aberrations was higher in the higher myopes. Conclusion : In a scotopic condition without accommodation stimuli, spherical aberration is decreased after wearing ASCL, however in the subject have negative spherical aberration spherical aberration could be increased, and which is thought to be the influence of contact lens design and pupil size.

  • According to Ayurveda, an individual can be classified into any one of the seven constitutional types (Prakriti) depending on the dominance of one, two, or three Doshas. A 'Dosha' is representative of fundamental mechanisms that are responsible for homeostasis, and thus, to health. In the recent years, there have been several efforts to see whether certain physiological, haematological or biochemical parameters have any relationship with the constitutional types or not. The objective of the present study was to see if the results of autonomic function tests vary according to Prakriti of an individual. We conducted this study in clinically healthy volunteers of both the gender belonging to the age group of 17 to 35 years after obtaining their written consent. The Prakriti of these volunteers was assessed on the basis of a validated questionnaire and also by traditional method of interviewing. After confirming that the primary Dosha ascertained by both these methods matched, 106 volunteers were grouped into three on the basis of primary Dosha and were subjected to various autonomic function tests such as cold pressor test, standing-to-lying ratio, Valsalva ratio and pupillary responses such as pupil cycle time and pupil size measurement in light and dark. The results suggest that, the autonomic function tests in the healthy individuals may correlate linearly with the primary Dosha expressed in an individual. In particular, people with Kapha as the most dominant Dosha showed a tendency to have either a higher parasympathetic activity or a lower sympathetic activity with respect to their cardiovascular reactivity in comparison to the individuals with Pitta or Vata as the most dominant Dosha.

  • A 16-views 3 dimensional imaging system is designed by spatially combinding two 8-views time multiplexed image channels. Each 8-views channel composed of 3 primary color CRTs and a dichroic beam splitter which combining the three CRTs as one channel. Each CRT displays 8-view images time sequentially. These images are projected to a holographic screen of a size 1$\times$0.8 $m^2$ through a projection optics. Characteristics of the three different configurations of projection optics are examined with the optics designing program "DEMOS" to select an optimized projection optics for the system. The configulation of the optimized projection optics is found like following; images from each channel combined by two-fold mirror are projected by a projection objective through a 16-strips LCD shutter. In this configuration, the shutter should be located at the entrance pupil of the objective, and the folded edge of the two-fold mirror should contact symmetrically to the center line of the shutter.e shutter.

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to classify between intentional and natural blinks in vision based eye tracking system. Through implementing the classification method, we expect that the great eye tracking method will be designed which will perform well both navigation and selection interactions. Background: Currently, eye tracking is widely used in order to increase immersion and interest of user by supporting natural user interface. Even though conventional eye tracking system is well focused on navigation interaction by tracking pupil movement, there is no breakthrough selection interaction method. Method: To determine classification threshold between intentional and natural blinks, we performed experiment by capturing eye images including intentional and natural blinks from 12 subjects. By analyzing successive eye images, two features such as eye closed duration and pupil size variation after eye open were collected. Then, the classification threshold was determined by performing SVM(Support Vector Machine) training. Results: Experimental results showed that the average detection accuracy of intentional blinks was 97.4% in wearable eye tracking system environments. Also, the detecting accuracy in non-wearable camera environment was 92.9% on the basis of the above used SVM classifier. Conclusion: By combining two features using SVM, we could implement the accurate selection interaction method in vision based eye tracking system. Application: The results of this research might help to improve efficiency and usability of vision based eye tracking method by supporting reliable selection interaction scheme.
