The research program is directed at studying the behavior and the strength of reinforced concrete slabs subjected to certain combination of punching shear and in-plane tension. Major variables to be investigated are the shear span to depth ratio of reinforced concrete slabs and the degree of the in-plane tensile force which is acting tangent to the slabs. The experimental results are used for understanding of the degree of the interaction between the two loadings, and for developing a new practical design equation.

In this paper, wave absorbing characteristics of a horizontal submerged punching plate are investigated throughout the calculation and the experiment. The punching plate with the array of circular holes can force the flow to separate and to form eddies of high vorticity and cause significant energy loss. As an analytic tool, the linear water wave theory and the eigenfunction expansion method is applied. Darcy's law that the normal velocity of the fluid passing through the punching plate is linearly proportional to the pressure difference between two sides of the punching plate is assumed. The proportional constant called the porous coefficient is deeply dependent to the porosity. To obtain the relationship between the porosity and the porous coefficient the systematic model test for the punching plates with 6 different porosities is conducted at 2-dimensional wave tank. It is found that the porous coefficient is linearly proportional to the porosity(b=57.63P-0.9717). It is also noted that the optimal porosity value is near P=0.1 and the optimal range of submergence depth is $d/h\\leq0.2$ within entire frequency range.

Micro punching is one of general methods to fabricate simple holes such as permanent ink-jet printer nozzles. A thin punch, that is need for micro punching, usually has been obtained by mechanical machining. There are some method to obtain a thin punch from a cylindrical rod, e.g., microgrinding and WEDG (Wire Electro-Discharge Grinding). Inefficiently, only one punch can be obtained from these machining methods. In contrast with these methods, many punches can be fabricated simultaneously by electrochemical process. Electrochemical process has usually aimed to obtain very sharp probe for atomic force microscopy (AFM) or scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), and it has not been considered the whole shape of a probe in spite of good merits. In this paper, an ultrathin punch with a tapered shape and a cylindrical tip is newly fabricated by electrochemical process.
New methods for joining sheet of metal are being sought. One of the most promising methods is MPJ (mechanical press joining). It has been used in thin metal work because of its simple process and relative advantages over other methods, as it requires no fasteners such as bolts or rivets, consumes less energy than welding, and produces less ecological problems than adhesive methods. In this study, the joining process and static behavior of single overlap joints has been investigated. During fixed die type joining process for SPCC plates, the optimal applied punching force was found. The maximum tensile-shear strength of the specimen produced at the optimal punching force was 1.75 kN. The FEM analysis result on the tensile-shear specimen showed the maximum von-Mises stress of 373 MPa under the applied load of 1.7 kN, which is very close to the maximum tensile strength of the SPCC sheet(= 382 MPa). This suggests that the FEM analysis is capable of predicting the maximum tensile load of the joint.

The research presented in this paper analytically examines the fire performance of flat plate buildings. The modeling parameters for the mechanical and thermal properties of materials are calibrated from relevant test data to minimize the uncertainties involved in analysis. The calibrated models are then adopted to perform a nonlinear finite element simulation on a flat plate building subjected to fire. The analysis examines the characteristics of slab deflection, in-plane deformation, membrane force, bending moment redistribution, and slab rotational deformation near the supporting columns. The numerical simulation enables the understanding of structural performance of flat plate under elevated temperature and, more importantly, identifies the high risk of punching failure at slab-column connections that may trigger large-scale failure in flat plate structures.
This research program is directed at studying the behavior and the strength of reinforced concrete slabs sub¬jected to certain combination of punching shear and in-plane tension. Major variables to be investigated are the shear span to depth ratio of reinforced concrete slabs and the degree of the in-plane tensile force which is act¬ing tangent to the slabs. The experimental results are used for understanding of the degree of tbe interaction between the two loadings, and for developing a new practical design equation.
The R/C flat plate system provides architectural flexibility, clear space, reduced building height, simple formwork, which consequently enhance constructibility. One of the serious problems in the flat plate system is brittle punching shear failure due to transfer of shear force and unbalanced moments in column-slab joint. Recently, the flat plate system accompanied with shear walls to resist the lateral loads is applied to high-rise buidings. Although the flat plate system is not considered in design as part of the lateral load-resisting system, it is required that this system keeps the ductile behavior for the lateral displacement of the building. However, it is unclear whether the column-slab joint possesses ductility enough to survive the lateral deformation. The objective of this paper is to investigate the major parameters that influence the ductility of R/C flat plate system by examining the existing experiments on column-slab joint. The effects of gravity load and shear reinforcement on the ductility of the flat plate system are presented.

Recently, post tension flat plate slab system is widely used for a new slab structural system. Slab-column connections may fail in brittle manner by punching shear. Flat plate slabs have been widely used for gravity load resisting system in buildings. Lateral resistance usually provided by shear walls or moment resisting frames. Since plat plates move together with lateral loading system during earthquake or wind, it is important to evaluate the gravity resistance under a drift experienced by lateral force resisting system during either design earthquake or wind. Thus, this study investigated post tension flat plate slab systems whether they have sufficient strength and deformability to resist gravity loads during specified drift levels. Experimental research was carried out.

The purpose of this paper is to provide the unbalanced magnetic force and vibration mode comparison between two large interior permanent magnet machines(IPM) with different pole-slot combination considering stator and rotor eccentricity. Due to the punching tolerance, the mixed eccentricity of air-gap is inevitable. It will generate the asymmetric magnetic flux density in air-gap, which makes the unbalanced magnetic pull and vibration. The study is focused on the unbalanced magnetic force and their harmonic components according to eccentricity conditions such as static, dynamic and mixed. When the high vibration is produced especially resonance, the obtained results provide clues what eccentricity condition occurs in the machine.
