  • A 150 kJ compact capacitive pulsed power system (CCPPS) capable of delivering electrical energy into an electrothermal chemical (ETC) gun on a vehicle has been studied. The CCPPS provides pulsed electrical energy into a capillary plasma injector which generates plasma of tens of thousands $^{\circ}K$ in temperature and has a nonlinear resistance depending on the current. The design requirements of the CCPPS are as follows: the maximum power of 250 MW, the pulse width of about 0.6 ms, the volume of no more than 0.5 cubic meter, the efficiency of energy transfer over 80 % and the repetition rate of 4~5 times per minute. The constructed CCPPS is composed of four 37.5 kJ capacitor bank modules in parallel to make a trapezoid pulse shape and to satisfy the design requirements. Each module is designed to achieve high reliability, safety, efficiency and energy density to endure severe operating conditions. The results of the performance test on the CCPPS using a 120 mm ETC gun are described.

  • This paper describes an engineering model development of a pulsed plasma thruster, which is capable of an impulse bit of 20uNs and a specific impulse of 800s. The solid fuel which is Teflon allows for a self-contained, inert and stable propellant system. And, the PPT technology makes it possible to consider a revolutionary attitude control system (ACS) concept providing stabilization and pointing accuracies previously obtainable only with reaction wheels, with reduced mass and power requirements.

  • Manufacture of motor by laser has been studying realization that was demands on market for lightening and miniaturization. Moreover. early in the 1980s. manufacture of parts for automobiles by laser welding was already successfully introduced. The purpose of this study was to develop production technology of the high quality laminated stator core for motor by pulsed Nd:YAG laser heat source. In the event of adjusting defocus and voltage to control humping in laser welding of the laminated core. sound bead could be obtained. but deep penetration was not. Therefore. explosive evaporating plasma was controlled by adjustment of peak power on pulse width. Particularly, because explosive evaporating plasma induced high peak power, made molten metal in keyhole scatter. a suitable adjustment of peak power was required to obtain sound bead. As a results of experiment. sound bead and deep penetration could be obtained.

  • This computational study features the transient compressible and inviscid flow analysis on a metallic plasma discharge from the opposing composite electrodes which is subjected to pulsed electric power. The computations have been performed using the flux corrected transport algorithm on the axisymmetric two-dimensional domain of electrode gap and outer space along with the calculation of plasma compositions and thermophysical properties such as plasma electrical conductivity. The mass ablation from aluminum electrode surfaces are modeled with radiative flux from plasma column experiencing intense Joule heating. The computational results shows the highly ionized and highly under-expanded supersonic plasma discharge with strong shock structure of Mach disk and blast wave propagation, which is very similar to muzzle blast or axial plasma jet flows. Also, the geometrical effects of composite electrodes are investigated to compare the amount of mass ablation and penetration depth of plasma discharge.

  • This paper presents a comparative analysis on step and the touch voltages generated by either a sine and a ring wave voltage generator; this analysis was done as a basic study in order to develop a small and lightweight ground meter. A ring wave generator using pulsed power technology was fabricated; an experimental grounding system specified in Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers standards 80 and 81 was installed. The step and the touch voltages, which were measured using comparable a sine and a ring waves in terms of magnitude and frequency, were equal. Using pulsed power technology, the weight of the fabricated ring wave generator could be reduced to one-fifth of that of a sine wave generator. Consequently, if a ground meter adopts the ring wave instead of a sine wave, it will be possible to reduce the weight of a ground meter and improve the efficiency of measurement.

  • Pulse transformers have been developed to apply for pulsed power technology as an alternative of a Marx generator. To obtain repetitive pulsed power generation, it is necessary to observe the rising time of output of pulse transformer. In this paper, using the equivalent circuit, The rising wave of output of pulse transformer is simulated for various input wave by using the Electromagnetic transient program(EMTP).

  • The biodiesel production characteristics in a pulsed-corona plasma reactor has been investigated through parametric tests. Transesterification of rapeseed oil together with camelina oil was done with the change of such variables as voltage of power, molar ratio, KOH catalyst and temperature. The energetic electrons emitted from pulsed-corona plasma has contributed to the enhancement of yield on rapeseed oil in short time (15 min). The higher yield on camelina oil was observed in 5 min. The optimal parameters were shown as the voltage of 23 kV, the molar ratio of 5/1, the content of KOH catalyst of 0.6 wt% and the temperature of $28^{\circ}C$ under the rotating rate of spark gap of 900 rpm.

  • In this paper, a novel 10kV, 50A, 50kHz pulsed power supply based on IGBT stacks is proposed. Proposed scheme consists of series connected 12 IGBT to generate maximum 10kV output pulse and 10kW full bridge phase-shifted zero voltage switching converter to charge DC capacitor voltage. Each IGBTs are sustain the 830V of capacitor voltage at turn off interval. By turn on the each IGBT for the same time it gives the path for the series connection of charged capacitor. From above turn on and off procedure, high voltage repetitive pulse is applied to the load. The synchronization of gating signal is important of series operation of IGBTs. For gating signal synchronization, specially designed gate power circuit using full bridge inverter and pulse transformer is developed to generate IGBT gating signal.

  • Although the electromagnetic launcher technology has been progressed significantly during the past two decades the number of firing test facilities are not many. This is prbably due to the large budget and man power required to build and maintain full scale electromagnetic launcher facilities. As the EM launcher technology's potential capabilities have been somewhat demonstrated with the full scale large systems the research is now headed more toward overcoming specific difficulties and answering questions experimentally with smaller, cost effective systems. The first half of this paper presents EM launcher's improved sub-scaling relationships based upon magnetic, thermal and momentum differential equations and EM launcher's basic equations. With the proposed scaling method the field variables can be matched or scaled linearly between the two geometrically scaled systems. The second half of the paper presents pulsed power system's circuit analysis and design technique, which is applied to the capacitor-powered small pulsed power system with crow-barring circuitry. The effect of the so-called speed volt is included. A sub-scaled small system's design is provided as an example.

  • The results of the analysis of a mathematical modeling for the IBR-2M pulsed reactor dynamics for a transition from a power pulse repetition frequency of 5 Hz-10 Hz are presented. The change in the amplitude response of the reactor for variable pulse delayed neutron fraction was studied. We used a set of power feedback parameters determined experimentally in 2021 at an energy output of 1820 MW·day. At a pulse repetition frequency of 10 Hz, the amplitude of pulse energy oscillations significantly depends on the value of the delayed neutron fraction in pulse βp. Depending on βp both suppression and amplification of reactor power fluctuations in the frequency ranges of 0.05-0.20 and 1.25-5.00 Hz can be realized.
