The pulsed field magnetization of the short-circuited soldered double pancake coil made of stabilized commercial high-Tc superconductor (HTS) tape is experimentally studied. The evolution of the shielding current induced by the pulsed field and the trapped field after the pulsed magnetization was measured at 77 K. It is shown that the trapped field in the coil is close to the value reached in the field cooling process and reduces weakly at 5-fold increasing of pulsed field amplitude. The current relaxation at t~2 ms after the pulse is defined by the current sharing between the tape's copper coating and the $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-d}$ layer. In the intermediate time scale (1 s < t < 100 s) the flux creep in HTS layer dominates. At t > 100 s the current's relaxation is defined by the resistance of soldered joint between tapes.

This study investigated the effects of changes to the pulsation factor of pulsed direct currents on wound healing. Patients with a pressure ulcer at a care hospital for the elderly were randomly divided into three groups: Group 1 involved the application of $100{\mu}s$ in pulse duration, 10 ms in pulse period, 100 pps in a pulsation factor, 15 mA in pulse amplitude, and polarity red+ by using pulsed direct currents; Group 2 involved a change of pulse period to 8 ms; and Group 3 received general wound management. Although there were no statistically significant differences in the changing stages of pressure ulcers among the groups, all the groups dropped in numerical stages. In the two groups to which pulsed direct currents were applied, there was a statistically significant reduction in the stages of pressure ulcers from the initial assessment to the 12-week assessment (p<.05). Even though there were no statistically significant differences in changes to the area of pressure ulcers among the groups, a statistically significant decrease was found in pulsed direct current group 2 whose pulse period was shortened (p<.05). There was no difference in the healing rate of pressure ulcers among the groups, but it made a numerical increase in pulsed direct current group 1 and group 2 and a numerical decrease in group 3. There were no significant differences in the characteristics of those who had a full recovery among the groups. Those findings indicate that pulsed direct currents have positive effects on the wound healing of patients with a pressure ulcer and that a treatment with pulsed direct currents whose pulsation factor is raised by reducing the pulse duration is especially effective.
The purpose of the study is to produce a mechanically improved weld and minimum variation of color through comparing unpulsed and pulsed GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) for pure titanium (CP grade7) tube. Pulsed GTAW using 60 A peak current and 20 A background current (1:9) achieved the wider window of welding conditions having part and full penetration without burn-through than the case of unpulsed GTAW. Moreover, the pulsed welding reduced a discoloration on the back bead of the weld and the size of microstructures (basket weave and serrated ${\alpha}$). That is because the pulsed welding has it's a low heat input and severe weld flow induced from electric current variation. Furthermore, the pulsed welding improved the bending property of the welded Ti tube. The enhanced bending property for the pulsed GTAW was due to the insignificant discoloration on the weld surface with maintaining the metal polish.
Tungsten carbide powder was fabricated with carbothermal reaction by pulsed electric current flowing in compact of tunsten oxide and carbon. The mixed powder of tunsten oxide and carbon was ball-milled into ultrafine powders. The mixed powder of tungsten oxide and carbon was put into carbon mold and heat-treated at $1050{\sim}1200^{\circ}C$ by pulsed electric current flowing. The formation of tungsten carbide powder could be achieved by heat treatment at $1200^{\circ}C$ for 10 minitues.
The inactivating efficiency of alternating high-voltage pulsed (AHVP) current was investigated in brine (20 w/v% NaCl) and saline (0.9 w/v% NaCl) inoculated with $1\times10^7$ cells/ml of Listeria monocytogenes. AHVP current at 12 V with 1 pulse completely inactivated L. monocytogenes in brine within 3 ms, while the bacteria in saline were fully inactivated by 10-pulsed electric treatment at 12 V within the same time. Electron microscopic observation demonstrated substantial structural damage of electrically treated L. monocytogenes in brine. These results suggest that AHVP treatment would be effective for the rapid and complete inactivation of L. monocytogenes in brine or saline solution.
The electromigration phenomena and the characterizations of the conductor lifetime (Time-To-Failure, TTF) in Al-1%Si thin film interconnections under D.C. and Pulsed D.C. conditions were investigated . Meander type test patterns were fabricated with the dimensions of 21080$mu \textrm{m}$ length, 3$\mu\textrm{m}$ width, 0.7$\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness and the 0.1$\mu\textrm{m}$/0.8$\mu\textrm{m}$($SiO_2$/PSG)dielectric overlayer. The current densities of $2 \times10^6 A/\textrm{cm}^2$ and $1 \times10^7 A/\textrm{cm}^2$ were stressed in Al-1%Si thin film interconnection s under a D.C. condition. The peak current densities of $2 \times10^6 A/\textrm{cm}^2$ and $1 \times10^7 A/\textrm{cm}^2$ were also applied under a Pulsed D.C. condition at frequencies of 200KHz, 800KHz, 1MHz, and 4MHz with the duty factor of 0.5. THe time-to-failure under a Pulsed D.C.($TTF_{pulsed D.C}$) was appeared to be larger than that under a D.C. condition. It was found that the TTF under both a D.C. and a Pulsed D.C. condition. It was found that the TTF under both a D.C. and a Pulsed D.C. condition largely depends upon the appiled current densities respectively . This can be explained by a relaxation mechanism view due to a duty cycle under a Pulsed D.C. related to the wave on off. The relaxation phenomena during the pulsed off period result in the decayof excess vacancies generated in the Al-1%Si thin film interconnections because of the electrical and mechanical stress gradient . Hillocks and voids formed by an electromigration were observed by using a SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy).

Aerodynamic flow control phenomena were investigated with a low-current DC surface discharge plasma actuator. The plasma actuator was found to operate in three different discharge modes with similar discharge currents of about 1 mA or less. Stable continuous DC discharge without audible noise was obtained at higher ballast resistances and lower discharge currents. However, even with continuous DC power input, a low-frequency self-pulsed discharge was obtained at lower ballast resistances, and a high-frequency self-pulsed discharge was obtained at higher set-point currents and higher ballast resistances, both with audible noise. The Schlieren image reveals that the low-frequency self-pulsed mode produces a synthetic jet-like flow implying that a gas heating effect plays a role, even though the discharge current is small. The high-frequency self-pulsed mode produces pulsed jets in a tangent direction, and the continuous DC mode produces a steady straight pressure wave. Particle image velocimetry (PIV) images reveal that the induced flow field by the low-frequency self-pulsed mode has flow propagating in the radial direction and centered between the electrodes. The high-frequency self-pulsed mode and continuous DC mode produce flow from the anode to the cathode. The perturbed region downstream of the cathode is larger in the high-frequency self-pulsed mode with similar maximum speeds.

This study conducted RIII reflex measurement to examine degree of pain depending on polarity of high voltage pulsed current of primary and secondary hyperalgesia site in hyperalgesia rat by local thermal injury. Hind paw which was injury site was taken as primary hyperalgeisa site, sole which was injury adjacent site was taken as secondary hyperalgesia site, and mechanical pain threshold, thermal pain threshold and root mean square of RIII reflex were measured. This study was conducted with control group I of hyperalgesia rat at hind paw by thermal injury and experimental groups divided into cathodal high voltage treatment group II, anodal high voltage treatment group III and alternate high voltage treatment group IV, applied active electrode of high voltage pulsed current to hind paw directly, placed reference electrode on the sole of injury adjacent site and applied pulse frequency. It measured RIII reflex and obtained the following results: Root mean square of RIII reflex at primary hyperalgeisa site was significantly reduced in group II after 2 days of hyperalgesia. Group II showed significant decrease after 5 and 6 days of hyperalgesia. Root mean square of RIII reflex at secondary hyperalgesia site showed significant reduction in group II after 6 days of hyperalgesia. Consequently it was found that application of high voltage pulsed current of hyperalgesia site reduced RIII reflex at primary hyperalgeisa site and secondary hyperalgesia site by electrical stimuli. Effects by polarity of high voltage pulsed current showed the greatest reduction of pain threshold when cathodal active electrode was used.

A study of noticeable improvement in welding speed in thin-plate Type 304 stainless steels gas tungsten arc (GTA) welding was investigated. The welding speeds were increased to more than 3m/min, up to 8m/min. During the welding, Direct Current Straight Polarity (DCSP) and pulsed current GTA welding processes were carried out, respectively. The appropriate high speed welding parameters were established while achieving a high quality weld. After this, Erichsen test and tensile test were performed. The results obtained wert summarized as following: ultra high speed welding for thin-plate Type 304 could be satisfactorily welded with high speed from 3m/min to 8m/min in both DCSP and pulsed GTA welding; Increasing welding speed was found to decrease the ductility, tensile strength md elongation of welded joint; The optimal frequency would be 200Hz-500Hz for high speed welding in pulsed current welding; DCSP welding could obtain the better results of Erichsen test and tensile test than those of pulsed current welding obtained.
