This study discusses the design of a parallel-operated DC-DC single-ended primary-inductor converter (SEPIC) for low-voltage application and current sharing with a constant output voltage. A coupled inductor is used for parallel-connected SEPIC topology. Generally, two separate inductors require different ripple currents, but a coupled inductor has the advantage of using the same ripple current. Furthermore, tightly coupled inductors require only half of the ripple current that separate inductors use. In this proposed work, tightly coupled inductors are used. These produce an output that is more efficient than that from separate inductors. Two SEPICs are also connected in parallel using the coupled inductors with a single common controller. An analog control circuit is designed to generate pulse width modulation (PWM) signals and to fulfill the closed-loop control function. A stable output current-sharing strategy is proposed in this system. An experimental setup is developed for a 18.5 V, 60 W parallel SEPIC (PSEPIC) converter, and the results are verified. Results indicate that the PSEPIC provides good response for the variation of input voltage and sudden change in load.

Typical power electronic converters employ only pulse width modulation (PWM) to generate specific switching patterns. In this paper, a novel control strategy combining both pulse-width and amplitude modulation strategies (PWAM) has been proposed for power converters. The Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM), used in communication systems, has been applied to power electronic converters. This increases the degrees of freedom in eliminating or mitigating harmonics when compared to the conventional PWM strategies. The role of PAM in the novel PWAM strategy is based on the control of the converter's dc sources values. Software implementation of the conventional PWM and the PWAM control strategies has been applied to a five-level inverter for mitigating selective harmonics. Results show the superiority of the proposed strategy from the THD point of view along with a reduction in the inverter power dissipation.

This paper presents a high efficiency, PSM/DCM/CCM triple mode boost DC-DC converter for mobile application. This device operates at Pulse-Skipping Mode(PSM) when it enters light load, and otherwise operate the operating frequency of 1.4MHz with Pulse-Width Modulation(PWM) mode. Especially in order to improve the efficiency during the Discontinuous-Conduction Mode(DCM) operation period, the reverse current prevention circuit and oscillations caused by the inductor and the parasitic capacitor to prevent the Ringing killer circuit is added. The input voltage of the boost converter ranges from 2.5V ~ 4.2V and it generates the output of 4.8V. The measurement results show that the boost converter provides a peak efficiency of 92% on CCM and 87% on DCM. And an efficiency-improving PWM operation raises the efficiency drop because of transition from PWM to PFM. The converter has been fabricated with a 0.18um Dongbu BCDMOS technology.

The PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) control signals have a drawback in that their power spectrum tends to be concentrated around the switching frequency and the resulting harmonic spikes cause an EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) and switching losses in semiconductors, etc. The SDM (Sigma-Delta Modulation) is a type of switching modulation used to reduce these harmonic spikes, and several SDM schemes are investigated in this paper. In the DSDM (Dithered SDM), the SDSDM (Space-Dithered SDM) and TDSDM (Time-Dithered SDM), the signals are classified by the location of their random dither additions. In these schemes, the switching frequency is spread by a random dither generator placed on the input or the output parts. Experimental results are presented where the advantages of the new proposed CDSDM (Combined Dithered SDM) are confirmed by applying to a buck converter.

Conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) from switch mode power supplies (SMPS) has become a major problem due to the proliferation of these devices employing dc-dc converters using standard pulse width modulation (PWM). In this paper, we proposed the sigma-delta modulation $({\sum}{\Delta}M)$ as an alternative switching technique to reduce the conducted EMI in SMPS. A comparative investigation on conducted EMI generated by PWM and ${\sum}{\Delta}M$ techniques are experimentally performed on a 300W Boost converter.
This paper proposes a grid-tied power conditioning system for fuel cell, which consists of three-phase current-fed DC-DC converter and three-phase PWM inverter. The three-phase current-fed DC-DC converter boosts fuel cell voltage of 26-48 V up to 400 V with zero-voltage switching (ZVS) scheme, while the three-phase PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) inverter controls the active and reactive power supplied to the grid. The operation of the proposed power conditioning system with fuel cell model is verified through simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC software. The feasibility of hardware implementation is verified through experimental works with a laboratory prototype with 1.2 kW proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell stack. The proposed power conditioning system can be commercialized to interconnect the fuel cell with the power grid.

This paper presents a novel three-phase current-fed Pulse Width Modulation converter with switched capacitor type resonant DC link commutation circuit operating PWM pattern strategy under a design consideration of low-pass filter, which can operate on the basis of the principle of zero current soft switching commutation. In the first place, the steady state operating principle of this converter with a new resonant DC link snubber circuit is described in connection with the equivalent operation circuit, together with the practical design procedure of the switched-capacitor type resonant DC link circuit is discussed from a theoretical viewpoint on the basis of a design example for high-power applications. The actively delayed time correction method to compensate distorted currents due to a relatively long resonant commutation time is newly implemented in the open loop control scheme so as to acquire the new optimum PWM pattern. Finally, the experiment of set-up in laboratory system of this converter is concretely demonstrated herein to confirm a zero current soft-switching commutation of this converter. The comparative evaluations between current-fed hard switching PWM and soft-switching PWM converters are carried out from a viewpoint of their PWM converter characteristics.

Solar electric systems have very little impact on environment, making them one of the cleanest power-generating technologies available. While they are operating, PV systems produce no air pollution, hazardous waste, or noise, and they require no transportable fuels. In PV system design, the selection and proper installation of appropriately-sized components directly affect system reliability, lifetime, and initial cost. In this research, we have studied the PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) signals. I proposed an efficient photovoltaic power interface circuit incorporated with a DC-DC converter and a sine-pwm control method full-bridge inverter. In grid-connected solar power systems, the DC-DC converter operates at high switching frequency to make the output current a sine wave, whereas the full-bridge inverter operates at low switching frequency which is determined by the ac frequency. Thus, it can reduce the switching losses incurred by the full-bridge inverter. Full-bridge converter is controlled by using microprocessor control method, and its operation is verified through computer aided simulations.

In this paper, dc-dc buck converter controled by the peak current-mode pulse-width-modulation (PWM) presented. Based on the small-signal model, we propose the novel methods of the power stage and the systematic stability designs. To improve the reliability and performance, over-temperature and over-current protection circuits have been designed in the dc-dc converter systems. To prevent electrostatic An electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection circuit is proposed. The proposed dc-dc converter circuit exhibits low triggering voltage by using the gate-substrate biasing techniques. Throughout the circuit simulation, it confirms that the proposed ESD protection circuit has lower triggering voltage(4.1V) than that of conventional ggNMOS (8.2V). The circuit simulation is performed by Mathlab and HSPICE programs utilizing the 0.35um BCD (Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS) process parameters.
Single-phase multi-level AC-DC converter is proposed that is composed of diode bridge and switch. The number of the supply current level is depending on the individual current level of the converter. A converter circuit the number of the level is equal to $\textrm{2}^{M+1}$-1 The proposed circuit has converter with 31 current levels. When the number of current level is increased smoother sinusoidal waveform can be obtained directly and it is possible to control the supply current almost continuously from zero to maximum without step changes of generating high voltage as pulse width modulation switching loss is decreased it has an advantage in large capacity. it is illustrated technique are confirmed the validity and effectiveness through the simulation & experiments
