A new PWM-controlled quasi-resonant converter for a high efficiency PDP sustaining power module is proposed in this paper. The load regulation of the proposed converter can be achieved by controlling the ripple of the resonant voltage across the resonant capacitor with a bi-directional auxiliary circuit, while the main switches are operating at a fixed duty ratio and fixed switching frequency. Hence, the waveforms of the currents can be expected to be optimized from the view-point of conduction loss. Furthermore, the proposed converter has good ZVS capability, simple control circuits, no high voltage ringing problem of rectifier diodes, no DC offset of the magnetizing current and low voltage stresses of power switches. In this paper, operational principles, features of the proposed converter, and analysis and design considerations are presented. Experimental results demonstrate that the output voltage can be controlled well by the auxiliary circuit using the PWM method.
A 54-year-old man experienced injury to the second finger of his left hand due to damage from a paintball gun shot 8 years prior, and the metacarpo-phalangeal joint was amputated. He gradually developed mechanical allodynia and burning pain, and there were trophic changes of the thenar muscle and he reported coldness on his left hand and forearm. A neuroma was found on the left second common digital nerve and was removed, but his symptoms continued despite various conservative treatments including a morphine infusion pump on his left arm. We therefore attempted median nerve stimulation to treat the chronic pain. The procedure was performed in two stages. The first procedure involved exposure of the median nerve on the mid-humerus level and placing of the electrode. The trial stimulation lasted for 7 days and the patient's symptoms improved. The second procedure involved implantation of a pulse generator on the left subclavian area. The mechanical allodynia and pain relief score, based on the visual analogue scale, decreased from 9 before surgery to 4 after surgery. The patient's activity improved markedly, but trophic changes and vasomotor symptom recovered only moderately. In conclusion, median nerve stimulation can improve chronic pain from complex regional pain syndrome type II.

Non Destructive Testing (NDT) methods that are capable of detecting the wall thinning and defects through insulation and cladding sheets are necessary. In this study we developed a Pulsed Eddy Current (PEC) system to detect wall thinning of ferro magnetic steel pipes covered with 95 mm thick fiber glass thermal insulator and shielded with aluminum plate of thickness 0.4 mm. In order to confirm the thickness change due to wall thinning, two different sensors, a hall sensor and a search coil sensor were used as a detecting element. In both the cases, the experimental data indicates a considerable change in the detected pulse corresponding to the change in sample thickness. The thickness of the tube was made to change such as 2.5 mm, 5 mm and 8 mm from the inner surface to simulate wall thinning. Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) was calculated using window approach and the results were summarized which shows a clear identification of thickness change in the test specimen by comparing the magnitude spectra.
This paper describes the discharge characteristics of liquid nitrogen for plane-plane, needle-plane electrode at variation of gap spacing at atmospheric pressure. The important results obtained from this study are as follows. (1) Breakdown voltage of $LN_2$ for needle-plane electrode is higher than that of for plane-plane electrode and discharge duration tine is longer with increase of gap spacing at atmospheric pressure. (2) The formation of bubbles by evaporation is observed in spite of non-applying source at atmospheric pressure and the creation of corona confirmed for plane-plane electrode results from the bubbles. (3) The applied voltage-discharge magnitude( V-Q) characteristics of $LN_2$ showed hysteresis and the discharge magnitude decreasing and corona voltage increasing proportional to the pulse per second at atmospheric pressure.

제조 되어진 PMN후막 페이스트는 PMN(Pb(Mg1/2 Nb2/3)O3) + Glass Frit(Pb-Zn-B) + BaTiO3(99.99%) 로 합성되었으며 하부전극위에 인쇄하였다.
As the screen size of LCD increases, EEFL(External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp) has been suggested to be applicable as backlight source for LCD . Since the electrodes of EEFL are outside of the tube, EEFL enhances the lifetime compared with CCFL(Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp), and a single inverter can drive multiple EEFL tubes of which luminance is uniform Therefore, a compact design can be realized and the cost of EEFL application would be much lower than that of CCFL. Moreover, EEFL inverter has higher efficiency per unit power than CCFL inverter. In this paper, a complementary full-bridge PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) inverter was designed for 32-inch LCD TV backlight which has 20 EEFL tubes and adapted two different driving methods to the EEFL inverter. The validity of this study is confirmed from the experimental results.
A new three phase three-level Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Switched Voltage Source (SVS) inverter with zero neutral point potential is proposed. It consists of three single-phase inverter modules. Each module is composed of a switched voltage source and inverter switches. The major advantage is that the peak value of the phase output voltage is twice as high as that of a conventional neutral-point-clamped (NPC) PWM inverter. Thus, the proposed inverter is suitable for applications with low voltage sources such as batteries, fuel cells, or solar cells. Furthermore, three-level waveforms of the proposed inverter can be achieved without the switch voltage imbalance problem. Since the average neutral point potential of the proposed inverter is zero, a common ground between the input stage and the output stage is possible. Therefore, it can be applied to a transformer-less Power Conditioning System (PCS). The proposed inverter is verified by a PSpice simulation and experimental results based on a laboratory prototype.
An active clamp ZVS PWM forward converter using a secondary synchronous switch control is proposed in this paper. The proposed converter is suitable for low-voltage and high-current applications. The structure of the proposed converter is the same as a conventional active clamp forward converter. However, since it controls the secondary synchronous switch to build up the primary current during a very short period of time, the ZVS operation is easily achieved without any additional conduction losses of magnetizing current in the transformer and clamp circuit. Furthermore, there are no additional circuits required for the ZVS operation of power switches. Therefore, the proposed converter can achieve high efficiency with low EMI noise, resulting from soft switching without any additional conduction losses, and shows high power dens~ty, a result of high efficiency, and requires no additional components. The operational principle and design example are presented. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed converter can achieve an excellent ZVS performance throughout all load conditions and demonstrates significant improvement in efficiency for the 100W (5V, 20A) prototype converter.

This paper presents a method to detect a rotor position and to drive a BLDC motor from standstill to medium speed without any position sensor comparing the current responses due to the inductance variation in the rotor position. A rotor position at a standstill is identified by the current responses of six pulses injected to each phase of a motor. Once the motor stars up pulse train that is composed of long and short pulses is injected to the phase corresponding to produce the maximum torque and the next phase continuously. it provides not only the torque but also the information of the next commutation time effectively when the response of long and short pulses crosses each other after the same time delay. This method which is verified experimentally using a DSP can drive a BLDC motor to the medium speed smoothly without any rattling and time delay compared with the conventional sensorless algorithm.

Measurements of interface states in a MOS capacitor by DLTS system using wideband monophase lock-in amplifier are discussed. A new signal analysis method that takes into account the bias pulse width and the gate off width is presented to remove the errors in the measured parameters of interface states resulting from the traditional method which neglects the effect of those widths. Theoretical calculations are made for the parameters related to the rate window, signal to noise ratio, and the energy resolution. On the grounds of this discussion, interface states of the MOS capacitor on p-type substrate of (110) orentation are measured with the optimal gate-off width with respect to the S/N ratio and the energy resolution. The results are interface state density of the order of 10**10 (cm-\ulcornereV**-1) to 10**11 (cm-\ulcornereV**-1) in the energy range of Ev+0.15(dV) to Ev+0.5(eV), and constant capture cross section of the order of 10**-16 (cm\ulcorner.
