Prunus mume is said to aid in the recovery of fatigue and improvement of liver and stomach functions. To obtain the best benefits of the whole fruit, fresh green Prunus mume was de-seeded and the fruit pulp was vacuum dried. The vacuum-dried pulp was powdered and sieved through a 250 ${\mu}m$ sieve. Then the sieved green Prunus mume powder (GPP) was granulated with water (GPPGW) and with Prunus mume extract (GPPGE) with a fluid bed coater. The physicochemical and sensory properties of GPP, GPPGW, and GPPGE were then evaluated. As a result, the water dispersibility (dispersible time) of GPP, GPPGW, and GPPGE was 21.19 sec, 6.46 sec, and 4.85 sec, respectively. The powder fluency (angle of repose) of GPP, GPPGW, and GPPGE was $11.25^{\circ}$, $8.65^{\circ}$, and $9.52^{\circ}$, respectively. The overall consumer acceptance of GPP, GPPGW, and GPPGE was 3.50, 4.62 and 5.00, respectively. Inconclusion, Prunus mume can be used as granulated whole fruit pulp with good powder fluency and dispersibility.

PLA(polylactic acid), one of biodegradable polymers was blended with various amounts of wood pulp powder through solution blending technic to verify the effect of reinforcing pulp amount on the mechanical properties of blend films. Also these blend films were further modified with TDI(toluene diisocyanate) as crosslinking agent to introduce urethane functions by reaction of pulp hydroxyl groups and isocyanate. As a result, the tensile strength of blend film with 0.25 wt% pulp was increased from $565.25kg_f/cm^2$ for PLA film itself to $624.20kg_f/cm^2$. However, elongation of this film was decreased by 50% of that of PLA film itself. Only PLA/pulp blend film further modified with 500% of TDI/0.25 wt% pulp showed the slightly increased tensile strength but decreased elongation. Melting point and glass transition temperature of PLA/pulp blend films were confirmed by using Differential Scanning Calorimeter(DSC). Thermal stability of these blend films measured by TGA showed only a slight increase at temperature lower than $300^{\circ}C$.

The applicability of oil palm EFB(Empty Fiber Bunch) to the papermaking process as a functional organic filler was investigated in this study. Since the EFB has similar chemical composition to the lignocellulose materials such as wood fiber, the fines of EFB was applied to the handsheet paper as an alternative to wood powder which were used as an organic filler to improve water removal efficiency and bulk. The experiments showed that the EFB fines resulted in the higher water removal efficiency at the wet pressing process and leaded to the higher bulk than those of wood powder. In case of 10 % addition of organic filler, the strength properties were not significantly changed. Those results suggested that the EFB could be used as a new organic filler for improving water removal efficiency and bulk property.

Cu-Ag powder having Core-Shell structure was prepared from by electroless plating method using agents such as $AgNO_3$, $NH_{4}OH$, Hydroquinone. Ag coated copper powders were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer(EDX). The silver coating layer of copper powder was affected from various reaction conditions such as molar ratio of $NH_{4}OH$, $AgNO_3$, and pulp density. Free silver was generated below 0.1M or 0.3M and above of $NH_{4}OH$ mole ratio. Silver coating layer thickened as addition of $AgNO_3$. When the pulp density reached 12% with 0.2M $NH_{4}OH$, and 0.15M $AgNO_3$ at $4^{\circ}C$, silver was homogeneously distributed around the copper particles and free silver particles were not generated.

This study developed rice packaging paper with exterminating performance against rice weevils such as Tenebroides mauritanicus and Sitophilus oryzae. The exterminating performance of packaging paper was given by treatment of garlic extractives and pine-leaf powder, respectively. For the exterminating test, rice weevils were put in petri dish containing non-treated packaging paper and functional packaging paper for twenty days. Right after being put in the petri dish, the rice weevils moved fast toward the area in the non-treated paper escaping from that in the functional paper. The lethality of the rice weevils on the functional paper reached over 50 per cent. The physical properties of the functional packaging paper were rarely changed in spite of treatment of the exterminating agents.

The experiment was conducted to evaluate the different NaOH pretreatment concentrations (0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75%, and 1.00%) on enzymatic saccharification (with cellulase, and ${\beta}$-glucosidase) and fermentation (by Saccharomyces cerevisiaeKCCM 11304) for bioethanol production from rice straw and rice husk. Pretreatment of rice straw and rice husk were conducted under both natural and powder state to observe the potentiality of the biomass condition (natural and powder state). In this study, glucose and ethanol production were increased with the increase of NaOH percentage for both rice straw and rice husk (natural and powder state). For rice straw, the highest amount of glucose was obtained in 1.00% NaOH pretreatment (0.81 g $g^{-1}$ in a natural, and 0.63 g $g^{-1}$ in a powder state pretreatment). Similarly, for rice husk, the highest amount of glucose was obtained in 1.00% NaOH pretreatment (0.47 g $g^{-1}$ in a natural, and 0.46 g $g^{-1}$ in a powder state pretreatment). However, 0.75% NaOH pretreatment resulted in glucose yield near about 1.00% NaOH pretreatment for both rice straw and rice husk (natural and powder state). On the other hand, for rice straw, the highest amount of ethanol was obtained in 1.00% NaOH pretreatment (0.36 g $g^{-1}$ in a natural, and 0.31 g $g^{-1}$ in a powder state pretreatment). In addition, for rice husk, the highest amount of ethanol was also obtained in 1.00% NaOH pretreatment (0.24 g $g^{-1}$ in a natural, and 0.23 g $g^{-1}$ in a powder state pretreatment). Moreover, 0.75% NaOH pretreatment resulted in ethanol yield near about 1.00% NaOH pretreatment for both rice straw and rice husk (natural and powder state). It was confirmed that higher amount of NaOH use is cost effective. Moreover, higher amount of glucose and ethanol was observed when powder was prepared after pretreatment. So 0.75% NaOH pretreatment in a natural state is supposed to be suitable for enzymatic saccharification and fermentation for bioethanol production.
Aucubin, an iridoid glucoside isolated from Aucuba japonica, has pharmacological effects such as antimicrobial effect, liver protective function and inhibition of liver RNA and protein biosynthesis, etc. This study was performed to observe the effect of aucubin on the pulp tissue after pulpotomy. Aucubin was converted to aucubinogenin as an active form by ${\beta}$-glucosidase. In 3 Mongrel dogs, the pulps were mechanically exposed with a sterile round bur and excised with sterile excavator. After bleeding control, aucubin was applied on remaining pulp tissues and then they were sealed with IRM in experimental group. In control group, $Ca(OH)_2$ powder was applied on remaining pulp tissues and then they were sealed with IRM. After interval of 1 and 12 weeks, the dogs were sacrificed. The teeth were prepared for histologic evaluation and examined by light microscope. Aucubin 1 week group showed that mild inflammation and vascular congestion in most of the specimen. More various degree of inflammation was found in experimental group than in control group. Premature calcified mass were found in the both 1 weeks groups. Continuous well-formed dentin bridge was found in both 12 weeks groups. Collectively, this study suggests that the possibility of aucubin as a medicament after pulpotomy.
This study was performed to observe the histopathological response to the bonding resin directly applied on the remaining pulp tissues. 40 teeth from 3 adult dogs were pulpotomized with a sterile round bur and sharp excarvater. In the control group, $Ca(OH)_2$ powder was applied on the pulp tissue and the cavities were sealed with IRM cement. In the experimental group 1, Superbond C&B was applied on the remaining pulp and the cavities conditioned with 10-3 solution were filled with the mixture of the MMA liquid, PMMA powder and Catalyst. Multi-purpose adhesive was used on the remaining pulp tissue in the experimental group 2 and Z-100 was filled in the cavities. In the experimental group 3, Clearfil photobond applied and directly photo-cured on the pulp tissue, then the cavities were treated with CA agent (10% citric acid and 20% $CaCl_2$ aqueous solution) for 20 seconds, washed and applied with Clearfil photobond then filled with Protect liner. The experimental animals were sacrified at the 1st, 2nd, and 4th week. The specimens were routinely processed and stained with H-E for light microscopic observation. The results were as followed : 1. In the experimental group 1, the number and characteristics of the dentin bridge formation case was similar to those in the control group and less cases were observed in the experimental group 2 and 3 than experimental group 3. The inflammatory response in experimental group 1 was less than that in the control group at 1st week but there had been little difference at between 2nd and 4th week. 2. The number of the dentin bridge in experimental group 2 was less than that in control group and experimental group 1. The inflammatory response of the experimental group 1 was similar to that of experimental group 1 but less than that of the control group. A number of bleeding and vascular congestion were observed. The least inflammatory response was seen in the experimental group 2 among all groups. 3. In the experimental group 3, one case of the dentin bridge formation was observed and that was the same as that in the experimental group 2 but smaller than that of the control and experimental group 1. The inflammatory response of the experimental group 3 was least at the 1st week and most at the 4th week in the all group.

The crystallinity index is an important characteristic of cellulose. The crystallinity value is different depending on the adopted instrument. In this study, we determined a crystallinity index of cotton and wood celluloses using wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS), powder X-ray diffractometer (PXRD), and cross polarization/magic angle spinning solid-state $^{13}C$ nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (CP/MAS solid-state $^{13}C$ NMR). The specimen was prepared in forms of powder, sheet and pallet. With the comparison of the obtained crystallinity indices of the cellulose, the effects of the analysis instrument, the sample preparation and analysis method were investigated. Among three instruments, the crystallinity indices by PXRD and NMR had a good relationship and reproducibility, and WAXS gave the crystallinity index with poor reproducibility. In the case of analysis methods of crystallinity indices, the Segal method showed higher value than that of the Ruland-Vonk method. We expect that this study would be applicable to evaluate the crystallinity index of various cellulose materials with accuracy and reproducibility.

In this study, we investigated the usability of new powdered additives in the paperboard industry. We manufactured the powdered additives from peanut husks and garlic stems by grinding. The chemical composition, particle size, particle size distribution, and particle shape were investigated to identify the basic properties of the powdered raw materials. To determine the effect of the powdered additives on paper properties, handsheets were prepared by adding the powdered additives to the pulp slurry. The chemical composition, such as the contents of holocellulose, lignin, and ash, showed similar values to those of other biomass materials. The particles of peanut husk powder were irregularly shaped, smaller, and had a broader particle size distribution than those of the garlic stem powder, which had the fibril form. The particles of the two powdered raw materials showed a positioning of expansion in the fiber network, resulting in increased bulk and a loss of strength. Handsheets containing garlic stem particles were stronger than handsheets containing peanut husk particles. Finally, the new powdered additives are beneficial to the bulk of paperboard.
