  • The autonomous vehicles (AVs) could make a positive or negative impact on reducing mobile emissions. This study investigated the changes of mobile emissions that could be caused by large-scale adoption of AVs. The factors of road capacity increase and speed limit increase impacts were simulated using a conceptual modeling approach that combines a hypothetical speed-emission function and a traffic demand model using a virtual transportation network. The simulation results show that road capacity increase impact is significant in decreasing mobile emissions until the market share of AVs is less than 80%. If the road capacity increases by 100%, the mobile emissions will decrease by about 30%. On the other hand, driving speed limit increase impact is significant in increasing mobile emissions, and the environmentally desirable speed limit was found at around 95 km/h. If the speed limit increases to 140 km/h, the mobile emissions will increase by about 25%. This is because some vehicles begin to bypass the congested routes at high speeds as speed limit increases. Based on the simulation results, it is clear that the vehicle platooning technology implemented at reasonable speed limit is one of the AV technologies that are encouraging from the environmental point of view.

  • Rapid detection of damages in civil engineering structures, in order to assess their possible disorders and as a result produce competent decision making, are crucial to ensure their health and ultimately enhance the level of public safety. In traditional intelligent health monitoring methods, the features are manually extracted depending on prior knowledge and diagnostic expertise. Inspired by the idea of unsupervised feature learning that uses artificial intelligence techniques to learn features from raw data, a two-stage learning method is proposed here for intelligent health monitoring of civil engineering structures. In the first stage, $Nystr{\ddot{o}}m$ method is used for automatic feature extraction from structural vibration signals. In the second stage, Moving Kernel Principal Component Analysis (MKPCA) is employed to classify the health conditions based on the extracted features. In this paper, KPCA has been implemented in a new form as Moving KPCA for effectively segmenting large data and for determining the changes, as data are continuously collected. Numerical results revealed that the proposed health monitoring system has a satisfactory performance for detecting the damage scenarios of a three-story frame aluminum structure. Furthermore, the enhanced version of KPCA methods exhibited a significant improvement in sensitivity, accuracy, and effectiveness over conventional methods.

  • Synthesis of acrylate-based dispersion resins involves many parameters including temperature, ingredients concentrations, and rate of adding ingredients. Proper controlling of these parameters results in a uniform nano-size chain of polymer on one side and elimination of hazardous residual monomer on the other side. In this study, we aim to screen the process parameters via Internet of Things (IoT) to ensure that, first, the nano-size polymeric chains are in an acceptable range to acquire high adhesion property and second, the remaining hazardous substance concentration is under the minimum value for safety of public and personnel health. In this regard, a set of experiments is conducted to observe the influences of the process parameters on the size and dispersity of polymer chain and residual monomer concentration. The obtained dataset is further used to train an Adaptive Neural network Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) to achieve a model that predicts these two output parameters based on the input parameters. Finally, the ANFIS will return values to the automation system for further decisions on parameter adjustment or halting the process to preserve the health of the personnel and final product consumers as well.

  • Globalized cities are currently showing changes due to autonomous driving (AD). It is also maximizing globalization connections in cities where autonomous mobility is as complex as AD. The purpose of this study is to reveal that cities that realize AD and mobility will grow into globalized cities. Several cities, including New York and Shanghai, have attempted and are in progress, but failed cities are increasing. Although the technology of AD and the trust of citizens are prioritized, the city that has built the city's infrastructure is expected to be a city that has succeeded in AD. This is because commercialized cities or AVs will become hubs for mobility globalization, excluding rapid climate change or AV companies, and empirical analysis has been conducted that if AVs fail in metropolitan New York due to urban complexity (population density), urban economy size (GRDP), patents, number of consumers, infrastructure public EV chargers, and road quality. It examines whether the realization of AD by region and country affects overall national innovation. As a result, even if AV succeeds in large cities such as New York, Seoul, which has a higher population density (complexity), has a negative meaning, and a more similar Tokyo has a positive meaning. It can be seen that regional research on AV should also be prioritized in large cities such as Shanghai. This means that in order for AV to be realized in each city, the construction of AI infrastructure data must be actively changed to establish globalization of cities for economic growth as autonomous mobility.

  • Violence can be committed anywhere, even in crowded places. It is hence necessary to monitor human activities for public safety. Surveillance cameras can monitor surrounding activities but require human assistance to continuously monitor every incident. Automatic violence detection is needed for early warning and fast response. However, such automation is still challenging because of low video resolution and blind spots. This paper uses ResNet50v2 and the gated recurrent unit (GRU) algorithm to detect violence in the Movies, Hockey, and Crowd video datasets. Spatial features were extracted from each frame sequence of the video using a pretrained model from ResNet50V2, which was then classified using the optimal trained model on the GRU architecture. The experimental results were then compared with wavelet feature extraction methods and classification models, such as the convolutional neural network and long short-term memory. The results show that the proposed combination of ResNet50V2 and GRU is robust and delivers the best performance in terms of accuracy, recall, precision, and F1-score. The use of ResNet50V2 for feature extraction can improve model performance.

  • TETRA system has been developed focusing on the supporting high-speed and high-capacity data transfer and improving the wireless technology. Hence, TETRA over IP technology became the important basis for supporting compability with various network wireless technologies and high-speed data transfer technologies. For advancing the current TETRA system based on IPv4 network, introduction of IPv6 protocol is necessary. In this paper, we propose an optimized scheme to support IP mobility to IPv6 node when IPv6 protocol is applied to the enviroment ingreated WLAN and TETRA networks. We proposed two scheme using MIPv6 protocol and HMIPv6 protocol respectively. Then, we evaluate performance of the proposed schemes and anlayze the results in order to derive the optimized scheme for the environment integrated WLAN and TETRA networks.

  • Many countries, especially ICT powers, are supporting IoT-based technology at a national level and this technology is actively being researched in the businesses and research institutes in an aim to develop technology and create an ecosystem. Roads in the Seoul city are building public facilities based on IoT to provide various services and conveniences for the users. However, for the full-fledged introduction and development of IoT, there are many cases where infringement on security and privacy and threat for life and safety happen. Also, as the IoT environment includes various environment technologies such as the existing sensor network, heterogeneous communication network, and devices optimized for the IoT environment, it inherits the existing security threat and various attack techniques. This paper researches the attribute based encryption technology for safe communication in the IoT environment. The data collected from the device is transmitted utilizing the attribute based encryption and by designing the key generation protocol, grades and authorities for the device and users are identified to transmit safe messages.

  • Currently, geographical information is interpreted and adopted in a wide range of context, and used for meeting diverse demands, such as, battlefield, traffic management, or public safety. With such an explosive increase of location-based applications, a considerable amount of research on the localization technique has been carried out. Among them, RSS (Received Signal Strength)-based approach is used especially for the indoor localization due to intrinsic limitations of the indoor environment. In this paper, we perform theoretical and empirical studies on enhancing the accuracy of the RSS-based localization on the IEEE 802.15.4 network. To this end, we set up an indoor testbed and implement a localization system on it. In addition to the theoretical analysis of the localization algorithm that we used, an empirical analysis on the effect of the factors which affect the accuracy of a localization system is carried out. Finally, we suggest some critical guidelines that should be considered for building a highly accurate localization system.
