  • Purpose: Korea's construction industry has faced declining productivity and quality issues due to labor-intensive onsite construction and variables like weather, material price fluctuations, and labor shortages. The modular housing industry, introduced in Korea in 2003, offered benefits like reduced construction time and enhanced productivity through offsite manufacturing. However, its adoption remains limited due to high costs, quality concerns, and low consumer acceptance. Research Design, Data, and Methodology: This study explores the feasibility and impact of implementing smart factory technologies in the modular housing industry to overcome these barriers. Using survey data from 179 construction industry experts, the study employs frequency and regression analysis to identify key factors influencing the adoption of modular housing and the effectiveness of smart factories. Findings suggest that government-led educational programs and strong policy support are essential for successful implementation, enhancing productivity, reducing costs, and improving quality. Conclusions: The study emphasizes the need for standardization of modular housing, deregulation of relevant laws, and increased public awareness to stimulate market growth and innovation. Policy recommendations include financial support for modular manufacturers transitioning to smart factories, ensuring stable supply volumes, and promoting the benefits of modular housing to consumers. Integrating smart factory technologies can lead to significant advancements in the modular housing industry, contributing to the sustainable development and modernization of Korea's construction sector.

Materials and Methods: The study was performed among the first and fourth grade students of Medicine, Theology, Education and Economics and Administrative Sciences (FEAS) faculties of Erciyes University. It was aimed to reach 1,073 students and 718 were evaluated. A questionnaire consisting of 48 questions related to the socio-demographic characteristics, knowledge, attitude and practices about cervical cancer and HPV vaccination was administered to the students. The chi-square test and logistic regression were used for the statistical analyses. Results: Of the students, 78.3% were aware of cervical cancer, while 36.1% of them were aware of the HPV vaccine. The percentage hearing about cervical cancer and HPV vaccination was significantly higher among the students of the medical faculty than the others and among fourth grade students comparing with the first grade. The marital status and the presence of a health worker in the family had no significant impact on the knowledge level of the students. The acceptability of the HPV vaccination was low among all students. Conclusions: The knowledge levels of the university students about cervical cancer and HPV vaccination are inadequate. This deficiency is more pronounced among the non-medical students and there is no significant increase during the faculty years. Non-medical students must be provided with information about important public health issues by elective courses. HPV vaccination could provide many benefits for men and women by decreasing the morbidity and mortality of cervical, anal, and penile cancers.

  • The main purposes of this study are to know the contents and forms of impressions that the general public, and the consumerists and environmentalists have of irradiated food, and to know what information of irradiated food influences their impressions. Other purposes are to know what sources those impressions derive from, to know which media they have recently been exposed to and paid attention to irradiated food through, to know which sources they trust of information regarding irradiated food most greatly, and finally to suggest policies and strategies of communication in order to shed positive impressions of irradiated food on people. This study was conducted through the person-to-person interview survey toward 1,200 adults, and 150 consumerists and environmentalists in 1999. Adults are sampled nationally in South Korea. Only 8.7% of the general public have heard of irradiated food. Impressions of irradiated food that the general public mentioned most frequently are: harmful, insecure, negative, etc. The consumerists and environmentalists were found to have the most inaccurate knowledge of irradiated food. Television and newspaper were the major sources of impressions of, exposure to and focus of attention on irradiated food. Based on these results, we seem to devise methods to enhance impression of irradiated food by disseminating information of advantages and benefits that irradiation provides food with and to promote the fact that irradiation on food is totally irrelevant to being radioactive, danger of a nuclear power plant, genetically modifying food, etc.

  • Since Roentgen discovered X-rays, radiation sources have been utilized for many areas such as agriculture, industry, medicine and fundamental chemical research. As a result, human society has gained lots of benefits. However, if a radioactive material is used for the malicious purpose, it causes serious consequences to humanity and environment. Consequently, international organizations including International Atomic energy Agency (IAEA) have been emphasizing establishment and implementation of security management to prevent sabotage and illicit trafficking of radioactive materials. For this reason, the rule of technical standards of radiation safety management was revised and the public notice of security management regarding radioisotope was legislated in 2015 by Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC). Several radioactive sources which have to be regulated under the above rule and the public notice have been utilized in Advanced Radiation Technology Institute (ARTI) of Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI). In order to control them properly, security management system such as access control and physical protection has been adapted since 2015. In this paper, we have analyzed the public notice of NSSC and its field application case. Based on the results, we are going to draw improvement on the public notice of NSSC and security system.

  • Data is an important resource to expect new value as 21st-century crude oil. In the shipping industry, despite the existence of numerous maritime data accumulated through ship operations, it was negligent in developing a business model with the data. This paper identified major demand sources and demand types based on the type and availability of maritime data surveyed through interviews with experts in the shipping industry and academia. Considering the characteristics and demands of these maritime data, this paper presented a private-type and public-interest business model. In the case of the private-type model, it creates additional added value by using maritime data and uses mainly ship internal data. The public-type model is to seek public safety and social benefits and mainly uses external data. A great synergy effect can be expected when combined with public services such as maritime survey, vessel traffic service, maritime environment management, and meteorological service. This study is expected to contribute greatly to the spread of the proposed business models throughout the shipping industry.
