This design is for the landscape of Busan Yeonje Post Office. The design requirements were: the preparation of an open space, the expression of regional identity, total design concept, and application of environmentally-friendly materials. The Busan Yeonje Post Office is not a just post office building but also a place for people including a communications center, rental offices, and a post office, facilities which require publicity, functionality, and symbolism. Therefore, this design reflected the design requirements, and considered the following to include the theme of "Pleasant messages and a pleasant post office with vitality and comfort. First, the open space was to be increased in the adjacent public vacant lot and street park by pulling back the construction line. In this way, the publicity, accessibility, and spatiality of the prepared open space were strengthened. Second, a sense of place for the landscape was expressed through the image of a wave representing Busan, a coastal town. Recognition of the space was strengthened, while regional identity and the concept of transmission of information were expressed. In addition, Citrus junos Sieb., representing 'Happy news' was Planted as a symbolic tree to denote a meaningful resting Place. Third, with respect to the design of reception facilities, considering the general purposes of the construction, post office stamps, envelopes, and postal delivery persons were portrayed on the walls, decorative walls, and environmental formations respectively The flooring was decorated with stamps and waves in keeping with of the total design concept. Fourth, to select environmentally-friendly materials, soil block and eco-grass block were introduced as major paving materials, and folk kinds of trees were included on site. According to the aforesaid plans, the researcher attempted to convert the public agency and office space characterized by feelings of dullness and rigidity into a soft and vivid outdoor space. It is expected that the location will be an open place in the downtown area and be recognized as a 'shared' space for citizens of Yeonje-gu.
The existing art museums existed for preservation and exhibition of collected material and the work which has artistic value. But today the art museum is not just for preservation and exhibition. It takes charge of public education as opened place to public. Further, it wants to be the art museum that the visitors who visit the art museum can enjoy and participate. The role change of like this is judged with the inevitable result which follows in many social demand. And increase with interest of leisure and culture life and continued demand for education, the role of modern art museum is becoming wider. Llike this, to accomplish these roles, space configuration of the modern art museum is changing. In the future, to meet more social demands and to solve flexibly, the modern art museum must concern more spacial efforts. Therefore, to grasp the change and the aspect of modern art museum, this study analyzes the Jeonbuk Province Art Museum, the Gyeongnam Art Museum and the Gyeonggido Museum of Art, They are most recently opened museum after 2000. To grasp space configuration of these museums, space syntax was used. And with the result which is analyzed, as grasps the problem and suggest an alternative idea, it can suggest advanced and proper direction.

The purpose of this study is to explore the possibility of the planning method of traditional market as the urban public open space and to attempt to create the essential reformation of traditional market place. The design concepts of the Moran traditional market project are establishing module system based on function of traditional market to accomplish the practical needs of vendor and consumer and expressing the liquid and autonomic characteristics of Moran traditional market to find the new and substantial schemes of public open space. The functional design module of the market place is based on 2.1m $\times$ 2.1m grid system which is minium market unit, and it is extended to 8.4m $\times$ 8.4m basic structural module and to 50.4m $\times$ 50.4m plaza unit.

The aim of this study is to reconstruct neighborhood public space appropriating for the contemporary society. The rapid development of technology has brought a number of changes to society. People's way of thinking has changed and the requirements about space has become more complex. At the urban neighborhood park, although multiple groups of citizens showed various activities, the program and structure of urban park are too fixed to support their activities. Therefore, strategy and flexible devices are needed to activate and stimulate the multi-user's complex activities. Through the case of Hong-Ik children's park, I will analyze the result of investigation about the pattern of space-user and suggest neighborhood public facilities proper to contemporary situation.
This study attempts to suggest new directions of urban multi-family housing design in the recent era of information, in which the representation of publicity and privacy of the housing reflects new meanings and relationships of the current digital society. The study examines cases of Dutch multi-family housing and investigates the meanings and relationships of publicity and privacy in the building as well as unit design of the housings. Borneo-Sporenburg housing development is a good example that suggests new interpretation and design solution for low-rise, high-density multi-family housing. Thus, this study analyzes street patterns, facade design, and ways of housing unit combination in Borneo-Sporenburg housing and concludes as follows. First, public space in Borneo-Sporenburg housing, which was designed differently from hierarchical and centripetal organization of modern architecture, is divided into small units and spread into the inside, which provides high potential for personal control of space and personal programming of space by space choices. Second, street pattern and facade design of Borneo-Sporenburg housing provide visual publicity and privacy simultaneously as they maintain unity as a whole as well as articulate individual unit in many different ways and provide clues to neighboring. Streets as a public domain have self-controlled boundaries for residents and introduce voluntary use-programs for residents. Third, facades of the housing have no inter-mediate space or common space, and confront streets directly. Space in-between is composed inside the facade and extends into the streets by residents' own choices. Fourth, privacy and individuality of the housing is strengthened. Units of the housing have individual entrances, unique plan type and complicated combination of space that all together emphasize individuality of units, however they are not often notified from the outside.
Mario Botta is one of the modern architects who established his own architectural world on the basis of the architectural spirit of Modernism. His works have been a good theme not only for those who study architecture but also for those who study the relationship between architecture and the surrounding environment and there have been many published papers and reports on his works. However, most of them stressed on the importance of the external appearance of architecture or on the relationship between architecture and the surrounding environment. There have been relatively few studies that have dealt intensively with interior space. The aim of this study is to find the characteristics of interior space in public buildings that were designed by Botta and to analyze them from the view design principles and design elements. For this purpose, the five most important public buildings were selected and the public space of the building like the central hall, the lobby, and the foyer were analyzed. Through this study, the followings are realized. A) Spatial features: $\circled1$ Refined and graceful interiors where the principle of symmetry was applied, $\circled2$ Centripetal interiors surrounded by thick walls, $\circled3$ Interior design lit by skylights above the central area, B) Formative features: $\circled1$ The shapes of the external and internal spaces are identical, $\circled2$ Simple geometrical shapes were applied in defining the shapes of internal spaces, $\circled3$ Skylights and light wells were combined and were utilized as form elements, $\circled4$ Architectural vocabularies of Corbusier such as stairs, round pillars, and bridges were developed and utilized, $\circled5$ Utilized the geometry that resembled his architecture as a form element to the furniture, C) material pattern features: $\circled1$ Plainly expressed the patterns of bricks that appear in the course of construction, $\circled2$ Made and used horizontal stripe patterns using stones of different colors.

The purpose of this study is to develop a publicness evaluation index for indoor privately owned public spaces (POPS). In order to develop the index, 10 cases of indoor POPS in New York City were analyzed using Visibility Graph Analysis by evaluating its accessibility and visual openness. The results are as follows; (1) Accessibility and openness of indoor POPS were higher compared to other public spaces on the first floor. (2) Cases with high accessibility index installed a higher number of entrances. (3) Cases with high openness index were mostly composed of a glass wall. (4) The publicness index was high when the lobby and the indoor POPS are shared. (5) Atrium types were highly utilized and the evaluation index was also high whereas, linear types were less utilized and the evaluation index was lower.
The cultural tendency based on sharing and cooperation, which has recently been a hot issue, accelerates throughout the world. This study began with a perception that a sharing culture is inherent in urban public spaces. This study aims to conduct a theoretical study of the sharing culture and to analyze the characteristics of the design composition of public spaces. This study selected squares in 16 European cities as cases for analysis. The results are summarized as follows:1)To analyze the design characteristics of public spaces in which a sharing culture is inherent, this study drew the shape and type of planes and sharing elements such as accessibility, symbolism and activity with the squares in the cases. 2)The shape of planes in the squares in the cases has been formed in close relations with the historic meaning and events of the area and the process of the construction of buildings surrounding the square. The squares in the cases were classified into seven plane types, and these squares have developmentally contributed to the formation of a sharing culture as a place for free participation and communication concerning social issues. 3)In the squares in the cases, the weight of road-centered access appears high, and in terms of the construction of human-friendly / environment-friendly infrastructure in the city or judging from the trend of the recent increase of pedestrian-centered plans for public space, it is judged that approaches with a high utilization rate of sidewalk or public transportation would be desirable. 4)Symbolic elements of the square become a device by which citizens can share the historic symbolism, along with artistic inspiration. In addition, by serving as an observatory from which people can take a view of the landscape of the city, it allows visual sharing of the entire city as well as the square. 5)A square is common pool resources in the community, and it is necessary to vitalize that in a direction of increasing the possibility of sharing, through the characteristics and methods of the composition of public design.
Space in the past had characteristics of place which are required for specific behavior to be done as we recognized it easily. However, for space in modern times, the purpose, forms and behavior space has, have changed as tools comprising the space have changed. 'Virtual space' which has been a conversation topic recently is unspecific and changeable space whose forms and geological location are not defined clearly. In addition, behaviors caused by this virtual space in combination with real space are taking place. The nature of Flash Mob which is one of the typical behaviors which take place starting from virtual space to be connected with real space, is that it is intangible game culture whose forms and behaviors are not fixed, and it is not limited to a specific place. Besides, Flash Mob is characteristic of representing game culture in modern society, and its nature can be summarized as temporariness, non-placeness, anonymity, double-sidedness and so forth. Since events generally take place in every place when man is involved in space, it's possible to generally think events derived from interpersonal relationships between man and man. We are to study spatial characteristics of Flash Mob by analyzing features and cases of the Flash Mob by means of them.

Aging society appears immediate social problem in Korea. Housing for aging is required independent and comfortable housing life to live considering about feature of elderly. It is necessary field to prepare. Aged person who suffers the aging process several stages gets changing weak, so living environment is important aging person aspect of social, psychological and physical point. Finally, aged person living together requires facilities for the naturally communicating and active things. Community of aged person required organization of space for keeping independence and connection with each other. According to space of community, housing for aging should have a different access route. In conclusion, congregate housing of the elderly should be planed organization of space to be solved anxiety and tension and to be aware of joining the community.
