  • This study examines the relationship between public service satisfaction, trust in local government, and community satisfaction. Previous studies on community satisfaction have insufficiently dealt with public services or trust in local government and have not fully conducted an integrated analysis. To close these knowledge gaps, this study includes public service satisfaction that was constructed with the subcomponents economic support, education, and public safety and trust in local government as factors affecting community satisfaction. Moreover, this study verified the mediating effect of trust in local government between public service satisfaction and community satisfaction. Online surveys were carried out with 980 residents in Jeonbuk, Korea, and structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed. The results indicated that public service satisfaction affected community satisfaction directly or indirectly. In particular, the satisfaction with public safety influenced community satisfaction both directly and indirectly. In addition, trust in local government had a mediating effect between all sub-components of public service satisfaction and community satisfaction. Today, regional disparity between urban and rural areas in developing countries is widening. As a result, residents in rural areas are gradually moving to urban areas. Therefore, rural areas need to increase the community satisfaction of their residents. In this regard, this study suggests important policy implications for community satisfaction enhancement.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the causes of conflict that arise from public pedestrian passages installed in apartment complexes through a survey of residents' perceptions and to investigate the effects on the satisfaction with and necessity of the public pedestrian passage. This has significance as a preliminary research into determining solutions to conflict related to public pedestrian passages that are open spaces, accessible 24 hours a day to pedestrians including people who live outside of the apartment complex. The result of the residents' perception survey showed that there is conflict due to the public pedestrian passage. The main problem was the noise-related variables. While management and safety variables were also perceived as problems, privacy and ownership infringement variables were not. These problems were reduced to four factors through a factor analysis: unfavorable incidents, environment management, ownership infringement, and safety crimes. Analyzing the effects of the above factors on the satisfaction with the apartment complex, satisfaction with the public pedestrian passage and the necessity of the public pedestrian passage, demonstrated that the unfavorable incidents factor influenced all the variables. The safety crimes factor, which is an extended concept of the unfavorable incidents, affected both the satisfaction and necessity of the public pedestrian passage. The ownership infringement factor was found to affect the satisfaction of the public pedestrian passage only, and the environment management factor did not affect all the variables. In planning and managing public pedestrian passages, avoiding incidents and crimes should be considered as a priority to increase the satisfaction of residents and solve conflicts.

Nurses experience difficult working conditions that affect their job satisfaction, health, and quality of life. Methods: A cross-sectional study was undertaken in three general hospitals and their respective health centers. Stratified random sampling by level of education was used, and 508 nurses and nursing assistants were included. A self-administered anonymous questionnaire, which included the Measure of Job Satisfaction, the 36-item Short Form Health Survey, as well as demographic details, education, and work conditions data, was used. Results: Greek nurses were found to be dissatisfied with their job according to the total score of the job satisfaction scale, although personal satisfaction and satisfaction with support had had higher scores. Their general health was reported as average, because of physical and mental health problems, low vitality, low energy, and increased physical pain. Multivariate linear regression analysis revealed that males and those wishing to stay in the job had higher physical and mental health. Increased job satisfaction was related to increased physical and mental health. Conclusion: Although Greek nurses are not satisfied with their work, those with high levels of job satisfaction had better health-related quality of life. The findings suggest that improvement of the work environment would contribute to a healthier and more satisfied nursing workforce.
