Stress Perception of Patients with Extrinsic Type of Bronchial Asthma (외인성 기관지천식환자들의 스트레스지각)

  • Stress perception was investigated in 53 outpatients with extrinsic type of bronchial asthma, using GARS scale and other questionnaires. 40% of the patients were found to be psychosomatic. The patients were more likely to consider their physical symptoms as severe than the allergist Severity of symptoms rated by the allergist had significantly positive correlation with scores of stress perception related to changes in relationship. However, no significant correlation was found between severity of symptoms rated by patients and scores of stress perception. Psychosomatic group was significantly higher in scores of stress perception related to illness and injury, financial burden, and change or no change in routine than non-psychosomatic group. Female. older age, higher education. presence of religion. and presence of psychological stressors at onset and/or aggravation of the illness were found to increase stress perception. These findings indicate ant extrinsic asthmatics an less likely to perceive psychological stress than physical symptoms, and that they are less vulnerable to psychological stressors than patients with other diseases.

Relationship of Satisfaction with Appearance, Self-Esteem, Depression, and Stress to Health Related Quality of Life in Women across the Lifespan (성인여성의 생애주기별 외모만족도, 자아존중감, 우울, 스트레스 및 건강관련 삶의 질 간의 관계)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of adult the women's satisfaction with their appearance, self-esteem, depression and stress to health related quality of life (HRQOL) across the lifespan. Method: In this study a convenience sample of Korean women aged 20 years and over was used. There were 1152 women and data were collected from November 2007 to February 2008. Results: There was no difference in satisfaction with appearance in all age group. Elderly women reported lowest self esteem and HRQOL and highest depression and stress. There were statistical significances between satisfaction with appearance, self-esteem, depression, stress and HRQOL for all age groups. The most significant predictors of HRQOL in early adulthood women were stress and depression. The most significant predictors of HRQOL in middle adulthood women were stress, disease, depression, self-esteem, and monthly income. The most significant predictors of HRQOL in elderly women were stress, disease, depression, and satisfaction with appearance. Conclusion: The results indicate that HRQOL of Korean women is associated with psychological distress as with stress and depression. When developing programs to enhance health in elderly women, consideration should be given to body image as well as psychological distress and chronic conditions.

  • A number of tools and equipment can measure the degree of stress. Stress measurement includes both psychological and physiological measurements. Considering only one of these elicits subjective or objective deficiency. Overcoming this problem requires a new stress index that combines these two measurements. Following people's personal traits, the measurement results also appear in diverse ways, but we can consider and study the general case obtained on the basis of the measurement tool. By using the index obtained by the psychological and physiological measurement tools, we obtain an integrated stress index. Therefore, we choose to use four stress measurement tools. The index of the result of each measurement tools is referred to as the multi-index. These indices are plotted on coordinates to analyze and diagnose the balance and tendency of the stress.

The Influence of Ego-resilience and Psychological Well-being on Job Stress of Childcare Teachers (보육교사의 자아탄력성과 심리적 안녕감이 직무스트레스에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examined the influence of ego-resilience and psychological well-being on job stress in childcare teachers. The participants were 192 childcare teachers in Seoul and Daejeon Metropolitan City. The research instruments were Ego-Resilience by Park(1996), Psychological well-being by Kim(2008), and Job Stress by Hong(2009). Collected data were analysed by descriptive statistics(frequency analysis, mean, & standard deviation) and multiple regression, and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ for reliability by SPSS PC program. The results were as follows: First, Childcare teachers' perceived ego-resilience was higher than average. Childcare teachers' perceived psychological well-being was higher than average. Childcare teachers' perceived job stress was lower than average. Second, Childcare teachers' perceived ego-resilience and psychological well-being was having significant influences on childcare teachers' perceived job stress. Optimistic thinking and anger control among sub-factors of childcare teachers' perceived ego-resilience and environmental mastery among sub-factors of childcare teachers' perceived psychological well-being explained 46% of variance in childcare teachers' perceived job stress. These results provide informations for reducing job stress in childcare teacher and suggest the basis of an education program for childcare teacher.

Moderating Effect and Mediation Effect of Social Support in the Relationship between Art Therapist's Job Stress and Psychological Burnout

  • In this paper, we propose the moderating effects and mediation effects of social support on the relationship between art therapists' job stress and psychological burnout. Based on the previous studies, this study set up four types of variables: 1) independent variable, 2) moderating variable, 3) mediation variable, and 4) dependent variable. Job stress was identified as an independent variable, social support was identified as both a moderating variable and mediation variable, and psychological burnout was identified as a dependent variable. To empirically conduct this study, a total of 200 questionnaires were distributed to art therapists. Consequently, a total of 150 survey responses were collected. The survey results are as follows. First, there were not differences in job stress, psychological burnout, and social support due to personal environmental factors. This included career, employment type and working hours. Second, the result showed a high-level of correlation among job stress, psychological burnout, and social support. Third, social support was found to have a moderating effect on the relationship between the art therapists' job stress and psychological burnout. Forth, social support was found to have a moderating effect on the relationship between the art therapists' job stress and psychological burnout.

Mediating Effect of Positive Psychological Capital in the Relationship between Occupational Stress and Turnover Intention of Mental Health Facility Workers (정신보건시설 근무자의 직무스트레스가 이직의도에 미치는 영향: 긍정심리자본의 매개효과)

  • In a recent investigation of mental health professionals, since the reported rate about turnover intention was 54.5%, immediate management for related specialists is requested. This study attempted to validate the mediating effect of positive psychological capital in the process that job stress of mental health facility workers regulates turnover intention. A questionnaire survey on work stress, turnover intention, and positive psychological capital was conducted for 250 participants among mental healthcare staffs in Gwangju Metropolitan City and Jeollanam-do. Analyses were conducted to identify mediation effects and significance using with SPSS 21.0. As a result, job stress of workers in mental health facilities showed a significant positive (+) correlation with turnover intention. Second, we confirmed that positive psychological capital such as anticipation and optimism has a considerable mediating effect in the job stress and turnover intention of employees in mental health facilities, respectively. Based on statistic analysis, limitations on this study and suggestions for further studies were discussed.

The Effects of an Acceptance-Commitment Therapy Based Stress Management Program on Hospitalization Stress, Self-Efficacy and Psychological Well-Being of Inpatients with Schizophrenia (수용전념치료기반 스트레스 관리 프로그램이 조현병 환자의 입원 스트레스, 자기효능감 및 심리적 안녕감에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to construct an acceptance-commitment therapy (ACT)-based stress management program for inpatients with schizophrenia and to examine its effects on hospitalization stress, self-efficacy, and psychological well-being. Methods: A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. Participants were 44 inpatients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia. The experimental group (n=22) received the ACT-based stress management program twice a week for a total of four weeks. The control group (n=22) received the usual care from their primary health care providers. The study was carried out from August 7 to September 1, 2017, and data were analyzed using IBM SPSS/WIN 22.0 with a Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, and an independent t-test. Results: The experimental group showed a significant decrease in hospitalization stress (t=5.09, p<.001) and an increase in self-efficacy (t=2.44, p=.019). However, there was no significant difference in psychological well-being between the two groups (t=0.13, p=.894). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that the ACT-based stress management program can be used as an effective mental health nursing intervention for hospitalization stress and self-efficacy for inpatients with schizophrenia.

Comparison of the Psychological Well-Being of Married Men and Women in Busan (부산지역 기혼남녀의 심리적 복지감에 관한 비교연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to empirically verify the influence of certain variables on the psychological well-being of married men and women and to provide a basis for promoting the quality of life. The subjects of this study were 366 married men and women in Busan. The data was obtained through administering a self-reported questionnaire. Statistical analysis was carried out using SPSS/WIN 10.0 and included frequencies, means, standard deviation, Chronbach'a, $$\chi$^2$, t-test, and regression analysis. The major results of this study were as follows: First, the scores for degree of income propriety, fate control orientation and material orientation of married men was higher than those of married women. The scores for degree of stress recognition and perceived equity showed no significant difference between men and women. The score for psychological well-being of married men and women was relatively low. The score of psychological well-being of married women(2.94) was higher than that of married men(2.67). Second, variables that affect the psychological well-being of married men were degree of income propriety(p>.001), degree of perceived stress(p>.001), fate control orientation(p>.001) and material orientation(p>.001). Variables that affect psychological well-being of married women were degree of income propriety(p>.001), degree of perceived stress (p>.001), fate control orientation(p>.001) and perceived equity(p>.01). The variable of perceived equity didn't affect psychological well-being of married men. The variable of material orientation didn't affect the psychological well-being of married women. Third, the influence level of the degree of income propriety of married men and women was the highest among the variables.

Stress and psychological Distress as Determinants of Parenting Practices among Poor Single Mothers (빈곤층 편모의 스트레스가 부모역할 수행에 미치는 영향 :심리적 디스트레스의 매개역할을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore various environmental factors that explain parenting practices. Those factors considered are stress and characteristics of single-mother/child together with psychological distress experienced by the single mother. A total of 285 poor single mothers with a child attending elementary school or junior high school completed a structured questionaire. The relationships among the variables were analyzed by the path analysis. The results showed that poor single mothers rely on affectiv $e^portive involvement more frequently then punitive/inconsistent discipline. It is also confirmed that the enviromental factors such as financial stress living environmental stress and job status play important roles in determining the quality of parenting practices with the mediating role of psychological distress.ss.

A Study on Musculoskeletal Disorders of Workers in Clothing Design (의류디자인 근로자의 근골격계질환에 관한 연구)

  • This study analyzed the effect of workers' socio-psychological burden factors on musculoskeletal disorders. A survey was conducted targeting office and field workers in the Seoul metropolitan area. Analysis was performed using the results of 357 surveys out of 400 surveys. The analysis results were derived as follows. First, the socio-psychological burden factor did not show statistically significant results for musculoskeletal disorders. Second, it was found that job stress factors also had a positive effect on musculoskeletal disorders. Third, social psychological burden factors were found to be more positive than office workers than field workers. Fourth, there was a statistically significant correlation between job stress and musculoskeletal disease risk scores. From the above results, job stress factors affect musculoskeletal disease risk factors (work frequency, pain level, and duration) and the increase in musculoskeletal disorders and the number of accidents.
