  • Objectives: In this study, we examine whether Sasang constitutions include all 8 attitude-function types, forming a complete paradigm from the perspective of Jungian psychological type theory. Methods: Analysis of the meanings of psychological attitudes and function of each Sasang constitution was performed, comparing them with the typological theories of C.G.Jung and John Beebe, both of whom are eminent minds in Jungian typology. Results and Conclusions: (1) Each Sasang constitution had all 8 psychological attitude-function combinations, which are diversely differentiated by type within their conscious and unconscious psyches. This is likely because attitudes and functions that develop in the conscious mind build up compensating attitudes and functions in the unconscious. (2) It seems that extroversion and introversion coexist within every Sasang constitution as psychological descriptions reported by Lee, Je ma state. The superior and inferior functions are disposed in the order of organ size in Sasang constitutions, but dominance of extroversion or introversion as defined by Jung's concepts of attitude does not seem to be determined by constitution.

Perceived health status by personality type indicated that those with type B ($27.71{\pm}4.67$) perceived higher health status than those with type A ($26.53{\pm}4.60$) but the result was not statistically significant (p = 237). 3. Perceived stress by personality type indicated that those with type B ($83.71{\pm}13.13$) perceived more stress than those with type A ($70.52{\pm}12.35$). 4. Differences between depression by personality type indicated that those with type B ($47.21{\pm}8.53$) perceived more stress than those with type A ($45.42{\pm}7.32$) but this was not statistically significant (p = .277). 5. There were significant negative correlations between perceived health status and stress (r=-0.300. p<0.004), depression and perceived health status (r=-.456. p<0.000). There was significant positive correlation between stress and depression (r= .700, p<0.000). 6. There was no significant difference between perceived health status, stress, or depression according to general characteristics. • In this study, 594 questionnaires administered to men and women residing in the capital metropolitan area who work night shifts were analyzed in order to study the effect of health information cognition on healing needs in accordance with the type of food selection criteria of the night worker. The results of confirmatory factor analysis in deriving food selection type identified four categories, a safety seeking type, a food exploratory type, a habitual seeking type, and a rational type, and the cognition types on health information were classified into physical cognition and psychological cognition. The need for healing, which was the investigated factor, was found to have a high correlation between questionnaire items with high reliable consistency. The results of this study were as follows. First, the food selection types of safety seeking type and habitual food seeking type had significant positive effects on the cognitive level of physical health information, and food exploratory type and habitual seeking type had significant positive effects on the cognitive level of psychological health information. In addition, it was shown that food exploratory type and rational type had significant positive effects on healing needs. As a result of this study, it was found that the cognition level of physical and psychological information was different according to food selection type, and the higher the cognitive level, the higher the healing needs. In particular, the result that the level of psychological health information significantly affected healing needs signifies that there is a demand to develop programs and menus that satisfy various needs related to healing and recovery from fatigue. In addition, further interest and study on the health and healing of night workers are required.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the level of psychological insulin resistance and self-care activities and to evaluate the factors affecting self-care activities in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus undergoing insulin therapy to provide basic data for the development of educational programs. Methods: Data were collected through the interviews using a structured questionnaire from August 29 to October 20, 2017, from the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus visiting the Diabetes Mellitus Center at H-General Hospital in J-city. The subjects were 168 patients who had been being treated via self-injection for at least three months after the start of insulin therapy. Data analyses were conducted using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression using the SAS WIN 9.2 program. Results: The mean score of psychological insulin resistance was 61.25 (range 19-95) and the mean score of self-care activities was 53.19 (range 18-90). Self-care activities were significantly different by gender (t = -2.94, p= .004), perceived health status (F= 7.00, p< .001), and hypoglycemia during the last three months (t= -2.47, p= .015). Negative correlation was observed between psychological insulin resistance and self-care activities (r= -.33, p< .001). Self-care activities were significantly predicted by psychological insulin resistance, perceived health status, gender, and hypoglycemia during the last three months, and 19.0% of the variance in self-care activities was explained (F= 9.01, p< .001). Conclusion: Psychological insulin resistance in patients undergoing insulin therapy and its effects on self-care activities identified in this study will be useful in starting and maintaining insulin therapy in the future.

  • This paper investigated, using a flexible approach, the effects of the psychological type of the decision maker and the advanced format of information presentation on decision maker performance in a computer-simulated production game. The current sutdy was guided by a model derived from a general model developed by Chervany, Dickson, and Kozar(1972). The experimental model had two dependent variables; total profit and decision making time. Three independent variables representing the psychological type of the decision maker, the report format, and decision aids were used in this study.

  • The major concept of Sasang typology is that the disease susceptibility and drug response as well as physiological characteristics are presumed to be different depending on their Sasang types. Although characterizing fundamental basis of their traits are crucial in this research field, only pathological susceptibility and physical appearances were thoroughly studied. We evaluated their physiological characteristics by tapping psychological, physical and genetic traits of each Sasang types. After determining the Sasang type of one hundred three college students based on the Questionnaire for the Sasang Constitution Classification, the psychological, physical and genetic traits of each type were analyzed with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis and genetic polymorphism test, respectively. Each of the Sasang types showed significantly different profiles (Generalized estimation equation, coef=11.88, z=2.13, p=0.033), and could be distinctively classified based on their MBTI scores (discriminant analysis Wilks Lambda=0.611, df=8, chi-square=36.7, p<0.001). Subjects with the So-Eum type (Introversion and Judging) and the So-Yang type (Extroversion and Perceiving) showed contrasting psychological features, however they had similar anthropometric characteristics. Subjects with the Tae-Eum type showed bigger Body Mass Index ($R^2$=0.22, df=4, 74, F=5.07, p=0.001) and body shape compared to others. Although there were no significant differences in G-protein beta-3 subunit polymorphism, angiotensin-converting enzyme polymorphism and Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase polymprhisms among groups with Sasang types, it was shown that the dopamine system could be one for genetic marker for Sasang typology. These results demonstrated distinctive and essential traits of Sasang typology using reproducible psychometric, anthropometric and genetic evaluations. We also found that the Sasang typology was a bio-psychological typology which could show trait-specific guideline for individualized medicine.
