Developing a Basic Scale for Workers' Psychological Burden from the Perspective of Occupational Safety and Health

  • Background: Organizations are pursing complex and diverse aims to generate higher profits. Many workers experience high work intensity such as workload and work pressure in this organizational environment. Especially, psychological burden is a commonly used term in workplace of Republic of Korea. This study focused on defining the psychological burden from the perspective of occupational safety and health and tried to develop a scale for psychological burden. Methods: The 48 preliminary questionnaire items for psychological burden were prepared by a focus group interview with 16 workers through the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire II and Mindful Awareness Attention Scale. The preliminary items were surveyed with 572 workers, and exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and correlation analysis were conducted for a new scale. Results: As a result of the exploratory factor analysis, five factors were extracted: organizational activity, human error, safety and health workload, work attitude, and negative self-management. These factors had significant correlations and reliability, and the stability of the model for validity was confirmed using confirmatory factor analysis. Conclusion: The developed scale for psychological burden can measure workers' psychological burden in relation to safety and health. Despite some limitations, this study has applicability in the workplace, given the relatively small-sized questionnaire.

중소병원 간호사의 긍정심리자본과 심리적웰빙이 직무열의에 미치는 융합적 영향 (A Convergence Effect of Positive Psychological Capital and Psychological Well-being on Work Engagement of Medium and Small Hospitals Nurses)

  • 본 연구는 중소병원 간호사의 직무열의에 미치는 융합요인을 파악하기 위하여 시도되었다. 연구방법은 B광역시 3개 병원에 근무하는 간호사를 대상으로 2016년 4월 18일부터 4월 30일까지 설문조사한 자료 198부를 IBM SPSS/WIN 21.0 program을 이용하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 직무열의는 긍정심리자본, 심리적웰빙과 정적상관이 있는 것으로 나타났고, 직무열의에 미치는 융합요인은 심리적웰빙(${\beta}=.300$, p<.001), 긍정심리자본(${\beta}=.363$, p<.001)이 직무열의를 52.7%, 교육정도(${\beta}=.102$, p=.040), 직무만족(${\beta}=.109$, p=.044), 간호직 만족도(${\beta}=.137$, p=.022)는 직무열의를 4.4% 설명하였다. 이를 토대로, 중소병원 간호사의 긍정심리자본과 심리적웰빙을 증진시킬 수 있는 프로그램의 개발 및 검증이 필요하다.

제조업 근로자의 건강행위와 직무로 인한 스트레스 자각증상의 관련성 (Effects of Health Behaviors on Perceived Physical and Psychological Job Stress Among Korean Manufacturing Workers)

  • Stress is a primary health promotion issue in worksite research because psychological distress is closely related not only to workers' health status but also to their job performance. This study identified the significant health behaviors affecting workers' job-related stress in Korean manufacturing industry with the national survey data conducted by the Korean Occupational Safety and Health Agency in 2003. A total of 7,818 factory workers in 1,562 manufacturing companies participated in the Korean nation-wide occupational health survey and 3,390 workers answered that they had any stressors in their workplace among the 7,818 workers finally participated in the analysis. Participants were selected by the stratified proportional sampling process by manufacturing industry classification, company size, and company locations (8 metropolitan and 8 non-metropolitan regions) in Korea. Trained interviewers visited the target companies and interviewed the factory workers randomly selected in each company. Smoking, drinking, weight control, exercise, sleeping, break time at work, and perceived fatigue were included in the health behavior construct. Stress symptoms was consisted of physical and psychological stress with 8 items. All survey responses were anonymously coded into the SPSS statistical program and testified using stepwise multiple regression analysis. Male workers were 73.5% and the 30s were 40.0% among the age groups. The married and the high school graduate were majority with 52.1% and 61.8% each. Current smokers were 44.7% and More than 50% of the participants drank alcohol sometimes. No exercise group was 59.3% and the participants who dissatisfied with their daily sleeping hours were 43.5%. In t-test and analysis of variance, the significant general characteristics associated with physical and psychological job stress were young age (p<0.001), single marital status (p<0.001), and short working period at the present company (p<0.001). The health behaviors related to physical job stress were current smoking, weight change during the past one year (p<0.001), weight control effort (p<0.001), exercise (p<0.001), daily sleeping dissatisfaction (p<0.001), break time, and perceived fatigue (p<0.001). All 10 health behavior factors were significantly associated with psychological job stress (p<0.05). Weight change, weight control effort, exercise, daily sleeping dissatisfaction, little break at work, and high perceived fatigue were significant factors affecting job stress. Daily sleeping dissatisfaction, little break at work, little exercise, weight change for the past one year and young age were selected as the significant health behavior and general factors affecting physical job stress symptoms in stepwise multiple regression analysis. The five factors explained 18.9% of the physical stress score variance. Six factors were selected as the significant health behaviors affecting psychological job stress: daily sleeping dissatisfaction, little exercise, frequent drinking alcohol, high perceived fatigue, little break at work, and little weight control effort. The six factors explained 10.6% of the psychological stress score variance.

지하철에서 누가, 왜 자리를 양보하는가?: 양보유발요인과 억제요인을 중심으로 (Who concedes seat to the old and the weak in subway? And Why?: Focused on inductive factors and inhibitory factors)

  • 본 연구는 지하철 내 자리양보행동에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 탐색해보고, 이들 요인 중 '양보에 수반되는 당사자의 신체·심리적 부담감'과 '책임분산'이 자리양보경향성 판단에 미치는 영향 및 그에 대한 성차를 알아보기 위한 것이다. 연구 1에서는 양보행동을 유발시키는 요인과 억제시키는 요인을 탐색하였는데, '나보다 약한 노약자에게(노약자에 대한 안쓰러운 마음 요인) 자리를 양보하는 행동은 당연한 것이며(노약자 존대의식 요인) 따라서 양보행동을 하지 않을 경우에는 마음이 편하지 않고, 부끄럽게 느껴진다(양보하지 않을 때 생기는 부정적 감정 경감 요인)'라는 것이 가장 중요한 유발요인으로 나타났다. 억제요인으로는 '양보에 수반되는 당사자의 신체·심리적 부담감' 요인, '양보거래 상황에서 발생하는 심리적 거부감' 요인, 주변에 양보할만한 다른 사람이 있는 경우와 같은 '책임분산' 요인 그리고 '양보상황해석의 애매성' 요인이 중요한 것으로 나타났다. 연구 2에서는 연구 1에서 추출된 유발요인과 억제요인 중 양보행동에 가장 중요하게 영향을 미친다고 판단되는 요인들 즉, '양보에 수반되는 당사자의 신체·심리적 부담감(개인적 부담감)' 요인과 '책임분산(책임감)' 요인이 양보행동에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 그 결과, 개인적 부담감 정도가 낮고, 책임감을 높게 지각하는 상황일수록 자리양보경향성을 높게 평가하였으며, 개인적 부담감 정도가 높고, 책임감을 낮게 지각하는 상황에서는 자리를 양보하려는 경향이 낮은 것으로 평가하였다. 또한, 자리양보경향성을 판단하는데 있어, 여성이 남성에 비해 개인적 부담감 정도에 더 민감하게 반응하는 것으로 나타났다.

한 부모 가족 여성가장의 심리적 안녕 -가족적, 사회적 요인을 중심으로- (A Study on Factors Influencing Psychological Well-being of Single Mothers - Focusing on Family and Social Variables-)

  • The purposes of this study were to find the general trends and differences factors influencing single mothers' psychological well-being, and, analyze the effects of family, and social variables on their psychological well-being. The subjects were the 284 single mothers living in Kwangju and Chonnam. The data were analyzed with frequency, t, F, and Pearson's r test, and by multiple regression using SPSS. The major findings were as follows: 1. Single mothers' family variables were lower than the median, but instrumental support was higher than emotional support. Single mothers' psychological well-being was found to be around that of the median value. 2. Single mothers' psychological well-being was significantly different from family stress, family resources, mother-child conflicts, income, emotional support, participation of education program, and institutional support. 3. Life satisfaction of single mothers was influenced by institutional support, family stress, family resources, and emotional support. Depression among single mothers was influenced by family stress, family resources, mother-child conflicts, and institutional and emotional support.

The Effect of Psychological Well-Being on Life Satisfaction for Employees

  • Purpose - This study investigated small business members' cognition of happiness in accordance with changes of employment environment at the nation's industrialization. The study verified effects of labor workers' psychological wellbeing conditions upon life satisfaction as well as the effects of job burden and family burden of employment instability. Research design, data, and methodology - The subjects were small business workers in Seoul and Metropolitan areas. The author collected 150 copies of effective questionnaires. Regression analysis, hierarchical analysis and 3-stage mediation regression analysis were done. Results - The findings of this research was that psychological wellbeing factors alleviated job burden and family burden to increase satisfaction with life. Employment instability moderated between job burden and satisfaction with life, job burden between environmental control and satisfaction with life, and family burden between goal and satisfaction of life. Members needed sub factors of psychological wellbeing, especially reflection for self-acceptance. Conclusions - This study inspected effects of small business workers' psychological wellbeing upon life satisfaction at changes of management environment as well as labor environment to verify effects of job burden, family burden and employment instability and to find out conditions of human resources management from point of view of small business and workers.

전담간호사의 직무 스트레스, 감정노동과 긍정심리자본이 직무만족도에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Job Stress, Emotional Labor, and Positive Psychological Capital on the Job Satisfaction of Physician Assistants)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of job stress, emotional labor, and positive psychological capital on the job satisfaction of physician assistants (PAs). Methods: The sample consisted of 166 PAs working in general hospitals in B city, Y city, and C city. Data were analyzed through the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program using t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. Results: The factors of job stress (${\beta}=-.488$, p<.001), positive psychological capital (${\beta}=.188$, p=.004), and total clinical career (${\beta}=-.147$, p=.014) had the greatest influence on the level of job satisfaction experienced by the PAs. The total explanatory power was 49.9%. Conclusion: It was found that job stress, positive psychological capital, and total clinical career were influencing factors in the job satisfaction of PAs. Therefore, to improve their job satisfaction, it is necessary to develop strategies to manage the job stress experienced by PAs, and to strengthen and develop positive psychological capital.

코로나19 팬데믹에 대한 심리적 적응과 연쇄적 변화의 구조 모형 (A Structural Framework on Psychological Adaptation and Sequential Changes during the COVID-19 Pandemic)

  • 이 연구는 코로나19 팬데믹에 처한 사람들이 심리적 수준에서 어떻게 적응하고, 결과적으로 어떤 심리적 변화를 겪고 있는지를 이해하고 설명하는 구조적 틀을 도출하고자 하였다. 팬데믹 경험에 관한 선행 연구를 고찰하여 잠정적인 분석의 틀을 설정한 후, 이를 확인하고 수정하는 방향의 질적 연구를 수행하였다. 일반 성인 6명으로부터 인터뷰 자료를 구하였고, 근거이론의 절차를 부분적으로 차용한 내용분석 방법으로 자료를 해석하고 정리하였다. 최종적으로 코로나19 팬데믹에 대한 심리적 적응과 변화 과정의 패러다임 구조 모형을 확장, 도출하였다. 이 패러다임 구조 틀은 '원인적 조건 ⇨ 중심 현상 ⇨ 연쇄적 결과'로 이어지는 심리학적 인과 과정을 중심으로 하고, 개인의 심리적 특성 범주를 '중개 조건'으로 추가한 패러다임 형태로 묘사되었다. 팬데믹 위기와 사회적 거리두기 및 결정적 사건 등이 '원인적 조건' 범주에 해당되고, '중심 현상' 범주는 긍정/부정/복합적 심리 경험을 포함하고, '연쇄적 결과' 범주에는 가치관/행동양식 변화 등이 분류되었다. 중개조건 중 '맥락조건'으로서 직장과 가족관계 특성이 확인되었고, '조절적 중개 조건'으로서 공동체책임의식, 여가능력 및 긍정심리자본 등 다양한 심리적 특성이 확인되었다. 논의 및 결론에서는 분석 결과의 의미를 해석하고, 연구 결과의 이론적, 실무적 시사점과 향후 연구 과제 등을 제시하였다.

자살의 생물학적 기전 (Biological Mechanism of Suicide)

  • Suicide is a behavior that is intended to cause death by itself and requires medical treatment, resulting in suicidal attempt or completion. Suicide causes loss of life, damages the body, costs a lot of medical expenses, and causes families to fall into sorrow and suffering therefore this suicide is a huge loss to family and society. There have been attempts to reduce and prevent suicide by understanding the mechanism of suicide. The mechanism of suicide can be thought of as psychological mechanism and biological mechanism. In the past, if we considered the psychological and biological mechanisms separately, the development of neuroscience now connects and integrates these two. Psychological factors affect biological factors and biological temperaments also affect perception or thinking about the situation and increase psychological vulnerability. Distant factors in suicidal behavior-such as childhood adversity and family and genetic predisposition-increase the lifetime risk of suicide. They alter the response to stress and other processes through changes in gene expression and regulation of emotional and behavioral characteristics. Distant factors affect the biological system and consequently changes in these systems can increase the risk of suicide. In other words, the distal factor does not directly induce suicidal behavior but rather acts indirectly through developmental or mediating factors. These mediating factors are impulsive aggressive and anxious trait, and chronic use of substances. The mechanism of this disorder is the abnormality of the serotonin system and the abnormality of the lipid level. Proximal factors are associated with the onset of suicide events and include changes in the major neurotransmitter systems, inflammatory changes, and dysfunction of glial cells in the brain. A series of studies, including a variety of research methods and postmortem and in-vivo imaging studies, show the impairment of the serotonergic neurotransmitter system and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis stress response system for suicidal behavior. These disorders lead to suicidal behavior due to difficulty in cognitive control of mood, pessimism, reactive aggression, abnormality in problem solving abilities, excessive response to negative social signals, severe emotional distress, and cognitive dysregulation of suicidal ideation.

창업관련 개인적 특성변수와 심리적 요인들이 창업만족도에 미치는 영향력 분석 (An analysis of the influence of business start-up related personal characteristics variables and psychological factors on the satisfaction of business start-up)

  • 본 연구는 창업가가 가지는 창업만족도에 있어 제도적 지원 보다는 창업기업이 가지고 있는 특성별 변수가 창업가의 창업 만족도에 영향을 줄 것이라는 전제하에 어떤 요인들이 중요하게 작용하고 있는지를 분석하고자 한다. 이를 위해 그간 많은 연구가 진행된 창업성과인 창업만족도에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 창업가의 개인적 특성 변수 외에 심리적 요인을 도출하고자 하였다. 심리적 요인은 창업을 통한 일과 근무환경에 대한 만족, 경제적인 고용안정 및 소득 요인의 만족, 창업의 가치성 부분인 개인의 발전가능성, 자율성, 사회적 평판으로 연구모형으로 설정하여 실증분석을 하였다. 연구방법으로는 부산 지역 내 최근 3년간 창업활동을 하고 있는 창업가를 대상으로 표본을 구성하여, 기술통계분석과 상관관계분석 및 다중회귀분석을 통해 창업가의 개인적 특성변수와 창업만족도와 더불어 심리적 요인과 창업만족도에 대한 가설을 검증하여 의미 있는 결과와 시사점을 도출할 수가 있었다. 이를 기반으로 향후, 본 연구에서 반영되지 않았던 재무적 지표와 기술력 확보 등 기업 역량변수를 포함한 연구로 확대해 나갈 수 있을 것으로 본다.
