  • Objectives: This study analyzed the effects of diabetes interventions published in journals of nursing, medical and public health, to suggest directions for future research. Methods: A comprehensive search of three databases was undertaken (Korean studies, Riss4U, RICHIS) using research terms such as "diabetes", "nursing", "public health", "intervention" and "program". One hundred fifty four original articles were retrieved and 21 articles were finally analyzed. The analyzed articles satisfied the inclusion criteria and their effect size was calculated. Results: Most studies about diabetes intervention were published form 2001. 2005 (57.1%). The psycho-social variables, 'self-efficacy' and 'self-care' presented good effects on exercise or exercise prescription intervention. In addition, the physiological variables, 'fasting blood sugar' and 'glycosylated glucose' presented good effects on the interventions using four more elements or the interventions held in a public health center. Conclusion: Further research should consider the essential elements that benefit diabetes patients' behaviors or physiological indicators.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting health promoting lifestyle in nursing students. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was done using a convenient sampling (n=682) in a three-year nursing college. The health promoting lifestyle was measured by the instrument of Walker's and self esteem was measured by the instrument of Rosenberg's. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, chi-square test, oneway ANOVA and Stepwise multiple regression. Results: The average score of health promoting lifestyle was 2.34. The score of psycho-social well-being subscale was higher than that of health promoting behavior subscale. The highest score was on the interpersonal relations subscale, and the lowest score was on the physical activity subscale. The self-esteem, mental health status, satisfaction with school life, school year, perceived economic status, and gender accounted for 31.9% of the variance of health promoting lifestyle. Conclusion: Self-esteem was the most powerful influencing variable of the health promoting lifestyle, and physical activity was the lowest score of the health promoting lifestyle subscale. Therefor nursing educators should consider to include a health promotion program with increasing self esteem and physical activity in the nursing curriculum.

  • Emotion is a psycho-physiological process that plays an important role in human interactions. Affective computing is centered on the development of human-aware artificial intelligence that can understand and regulate emotions. This field of study is also critical as mental diseases such as depression, autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and game addiction are associated with emotion. Despite the efforts in emotions recognition and emotion detection from nonstationary, detecting emotions from abnormal EEG signals requires sophisticated learning algorithms because they require a high level of abstraction. In this paper, we investigated LSTM hyperparameters for an optimal emotion EEG classification. Results of several experiments are hereby presented. From the results, optimal LSTM hyperparameter configuration was achieved.

  • In this paper, a novel genre classification algorithm is proposed for music recommendation system. Especially, to improve the classification accuracy, the band-pass filter for octave-based spectral contrast (OSC) feature is designed considering the psycho-acoustic model and actual frequency range of musical instruments. The GTZAN database including 10 genres was used for 10-fold cross validation experiments. The proposed multiple-octave based OSC produces better accuracy by 2.26% compared with the conventional OSC. The combined feature vector based on the proposed OSC and mel-frequency cepstral coefficient (MFCC) gives even better accuracy.

  • The main purpose of this research is to develop the methodology of objective evaluation of clothing appearance by eye movement analysis. The visual clothing items used in this study were skirt, one-piece, pants and shirt with the style variation of silhouette and details. By observing eye movement during visual evaluation of clothing, we can achieve the basic fixation data of eye movement. Moreover, we developed the Matlab program to extract the fixation coordinate and number of eye fixation on each part of the clothing item. As results, there were differences in the duration of fixation time for each item and the fixation time was not different by styles within a clothing item. However, we could find differences in the fixation time within a style, in other words, we could select the important parts of the clothing by observing the fixation time in a certain clothing item. It is also noted that time required in visual information processing differs depending on the item, and there was a region which contain more information independent with styles in the same item. By developing the objective method of visual evaluation that correspond to human's visual information processing, the results are expected to be applied in the retrieval program in internet shopping mall or in the development of contents for advertisement of clothing.

  • Conventional atom model must be criticized on the following four points.(1) natural motions between positive and negative entities are not circular motions but linear going and returning ones, for examples sexual motion, tidal motion, day and night etc.(2) Potential energy generation was neglected when electron changes its orbit from outer one to inner one. The hv is the kinetic energy of the photo-electron. The total energy difference between orbits comprises kinetic and potential energies. (3) The structure of the space must be taken into consideration because the properties of the electron do not changed during the transition from outer orbit to inner one even though it produces photon. (4) Total energy conservation law applies to the energy flow between mind and matter because we daily experiences a interconnection between mind and body.New atomic model 9the crystallizing $\pi$-bonding) was proposed in the journal of material processing technology since 1997 for the explanation of the mechanical behaviors in terms of physics. $\prod$-ray physics proved that the electrons can come out from in the nucleus and modern chemistry corresponds to the $\pi$-bonding by the nuclear electrons. The $\pi$-bonding structure of the protons outside the nucleus is that electrons move between protons of the different atoms. The perception step and the characteristic frequency in signal transduction is due to the accumulation of the $\pi$-rays outside of the proton before their absorption to the nucleus.

  • Purpose: This study was to identify the effect of hand massage on comfort in women with gynecologic cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used for this study. Hand massage was provided to the experimental group for 5 min (2.5 min for each side) once on admission day, twice from the second day until the day before discharge, and once in the morning on discharge day. Results: Findings showed no significant differences in pre and post levels of general, physical, psycho-spiritual, social and environmental comfort. However, women's comfort levels in all domains were increased after the chemotherapy in the experimental group. Conclusion: Although there were some increases in women's comfort levels on all domains after the treatment, hand massage was not proved as a statistically useful nursing intervention in comforting women with gynecologic cancer. The results suggest that hand massage could be effective if it is applied longer than it was in this study. The future implications of hand massage in patients with various cancers are discussed.
