In this study, seismic safety of CFRD(Concrete-Face Rockfill Dam) type "D" dam in operation is evaluated from the results of 1-g shaking table test using similitude laws. Model dam is made by similitude law considering the grain size of prototype dam component. After the model dam is impounded to the normal water level(N.W.L), it is excited by artificial earthquake wave corresponding to standard design respond spectrum of the "D" dam site. Displacement response behavior of the dam is examined through the measurement of vertical and horizontal displacement of dam crest. Also, amplification characteristics of acceleration with dam height is examined through the measurement of acceleration with dam height. Finally, the purpose of this study is to evaluate seismic safety of "D" dam in operation. From the results of acceleration measurement, it was found that acceleration of dam crest was amplified about 1.52 times compared to the acceleration of dam bottom and amplification phenomenon is outstanding at three quarters of dam height from the bottom of dam. From the analysis of displacement behavior, it was estimated that vertical displacement of prototype dam is 6.8cm (0.1% of dam height) and horizontal displacement 12.3cm(0.2% of dam height). These percentages is much lower than 1% of dam height(general stability criteria). Therefore, it was concluded that seismic stability of "D" dam against an estimated earthquake is guaranteed.

This paper reports the results of performance verification tests of the base isolated RC building with the laminated rubber bearings which is manufactured by Dongil Rubber Belt Co.. The shaking table tests were performed using a scaled 3-story model scaled to 1/3 of the prototype RC apartment building. Several major earthquake records were scaled to different peak ground accelerations and used as input base excitations. Through the verification tests, the validity of the applied base isolation device and the response reduction effect against earthquakes are confirmed.

In general, Korean Lightweight Concrete used Heat insulating material for building and filler for civil construction, backfill material for tunnel, office floor fillers, lightweight blocks and so on. These expand the range of use ALC(autoclaved lightweight concrete) on the soft-ground at regular intervals during road construction by installing piles used as substrates for the process is under study. In this study, behavior characteristics on the soft-ground of pavement analysis was used to test the geo-Centrifuge. Prototype pavement reduced to 1/30 slab form of the composition as kaolinite model tests were conducted in the soft ground. Pile Arrangement (having 36 component pile with an array of $3{\times}12$) was used to group of piles. Tests of gravity 30 level the centrifugal force acting Light-weight pavement models. Based on the Prototype pavement of the behavior characteristics of pavement behavior characteristics were estimated. FMA analysis of the 10 times as big 39.4kg (actual load 35 ton) of the lateral load is applied to the case 7.8mm (actual behavior 23.4mm) behavior was fine.
The objective of this experiment is to observe the elastic and inelastic behaviors of high-rise reinforced concrete frames having non-seismic details. To do this, a building frame designed according to Korean seismic code and detailed in the Korean conventional practice was selected. A 1:12 scale plane frame model was manufactured according to similitude law. A reversed lateral load test and a monotonic pushover test were performed under the displacement control. To simulate the earthquake effects, the lateral force distribution was maintained to be an inverse triangle by using a whiffle tree. From the tests, base shears, crack pattern, local rotations in the ends of critical members and the relations between interstory drift versus story shear are obtained. Based on test results, conclusions are drawn on the implications of the elastic and inelastic behaviors of a high-rise reinforced concrete frame having non-seismic details.

The aim of the study is to determine the modal parameters of a prototype damaged arch dam by operational modal analysis (OMA) method for some damage scenarios. For this purpose, a prototype arch dam-reservoir-foundation model is constructed under laboratory conditions. Ambient vibration tests on the arch dam model are performed to identify the modal parameters such as natural frequency, mode shape and damping ratio. The tests are conducted for four test-case scenarios: an undamaged dam with empty reservoir, two different damaged dams with empty reservoirs, and a damaged dam with full reservoir. Loading simulating random impact effects is applied on the dam to crack. Cracks and fractures occurred at the middle of the upper part of the dams and distributed through the abutments. Sensitivity accelerometers are placed on the dams' crests to collect signals for measurements. Operational modal analysis software processes the signals collected from the ambient vibration tests, and enhanced frequency domain decomposition and stochastic subspace identification techniques are used to estimate modal parameters of the dams. The modal parameters are obtained to establish a basis for comparison of the results of two techniques for each damage case. Results show that approximately 35-40% difference exists between the natural frequencies obtained from Case 1 and Case 4. The natural frequencies of the dam considerably decrease with increasing cracks. However, observation shows that the filled reservoir slightly affected modal parameters of the dam after severe cracking. The mode shapes obtained are symmetrical and anti-symmetrical. Apparently, mode shapes in Case 1 represent the probable responses of arch dams more accurately. Also, damping ratio show an increase when cracking increases.
The effects of infill panels on the response of r.c. frames subjected to seismic action are widely recognized. Numerous experimental investigations were effected and several analytical models were developed on this subject. This work, which is part of a larger project dealing with specific materials and structures commonly used in Italy, discusses experimental tests on masonry and samples of bare and infilled portals. The experimental activity includes tests on elemental materials, and 12 wall samples. Finally, three one-bay one-story reinforced concrete frames, designed according to the outdated Italian technical code D.M. 1996 without seismic details, were tested (bare and infilled) under constant vertical and cyclic lateral load. The first cracks observed on the framed walls occurred at a drift of about 0.3%, reaching its maximum capacity at a drift of 0.5% while retaining its capacity up to a drift of 0.6%. Infill contributed to both the stiffness and strength of the bare reinforced concrete frame at small drifts thus improving overall system behavior. In addition to the experimental activities, previously mentioned, the recalibration of a model proposed by Comberscue (1996) was evaluated. The accuracy of an OpenSees non linear fiber based model of the prototype tested, including a strut element was verified through a comparison with the final experimental results. This work has been partially supported by research grant DPC-ReLUIS 2014.

The focus of the present study is to investigate both local and global behaviour of a precast concrete sandwich panel. The selected prototype consists of two reinforced concrete layers coupled by a system of cold-drawn steel profiles and one intermediate layer of insulating material. High-definition nonlinear finite element (FE) models, based on 3D brick and 2D interface elements, are used to assess the capacity of this technology under shear, tension and compression. Geometrical nonlinearities are accounted via large displacement-large strain formulation, whilst material nonlinearities are included, in the series of simulations, by means of Von Mises yielding criterion for steel elements and a classical total strain crack model for concrete; a bond-slip constitutive law is additionally adopted to reproduce steel profile-concrete layer interaction. First, constitutive models are calibrated on the basis of preliminary pull and pull-out tests for steel and concrete, respectively. Geometrically and materially nonlinear FE simulations are performed, in compliance with experimental tests, to validate the proposed modeling approach and characterize shear, compressive and tensile response of this system, in terms of global capacity curves and local stress/strain distributions. Based on these experimental and numerical data, the structural performance is then quantified under various loading conditions, aimed to reproduce the behaviour of this solution during production, transport, construction and service conditions.
Recently, the transportation of dangerous explosive goods is increasing, which makes vehicle blasting accidents a potential threat for the safety of bridge structures. In addition, blasting accidents happen more easily when earthquake occurs. Excessive dynamic response of bridges under extreme loads may cause local member damage, serviceability issues, or even failure of the whole structure. In this paper, a new explosion-proof and aseismic system is proposed including cable support damping bearing and steel-fiber reinforced concrete based on the existing researches. Then, considering one 40m-span simply supported concrete T-bridge as the prototype, through scale model test and numerical simulation, the dynamic response of the bridge under three conditions including only earthquake, only blast load and the combination of the two extreme loads is obtained and the applicability of this explosion-proof and aseismic system is explored. Results of the study show that this explosion-proof and aseismic system has good adaptability to seism and blast load at different level. The reducing vibration isolation efficiency of cable support damping bearing is pretty high. Increasing cables does not affect the good shock-absorption performance of the original bearing. The new system is good at shock absorption and displacement limitation. It works well in reducing the vertical dynamic response of beam body, and could limit the relative displacement between main girder and capping beam in different orientation so as to solve the problem of beam falling. The study also shows that the enhancement of steel fibers in concrete could significantly improve the blast resistance of main beam. Results of this paper can be used in the process of antiknock design, and provide strong theoretical basis for comprehensive protection and support of girder bridges.
In this paper, a predictive method accounting for the scaling effects of rockfill materials in the numerical deformation analysis of rockfill dams is developed. It aims to take into consideration the differences of engineering properties of rockfill materials between in situ and laboratory conditions in the deformation analysis. The developed method is based on the modification of model parameters used in the chosen material model, which is, in this study, an elasto-plastic model with double yield surfaces, i.e., the modified Hardening Soil model. Datasets of experimental tests are collected from previous studies, and a new dataset of the Nam Ngum 2 dam project for investigating the scaling effects of rockfill materials, including particle size, particle gradation and density, is obtained. To quantitatively consider the influence of particle gradation, the coarse-to-fine content (C/F) concept is proposed in this study. The simple relations between the model parameters and particle size, C/F and density are formulated, which enable us to predict the mechanical properties of prototype materials from laboratory tests. Subsequently, a 3D finite element analysis of the Nam Ngum 2 concrete face slab rockfill dam at the end of the construction stage is carried out using two sets of model parameters (1) based on the laboratory tests and (2) in accordance with the proposed method. Comparisons of the computed results with dam monitoring data indicate that the proposed method can provide a simple but effective framework to take account of the scaling effect in dam deformation analysis.

Recently, the high-rise apartment housings have become a prototype of the urban residential dwelling in Korea and the numbers of one have steadily been increasing. According to this trend, the strength of the construction materials is also fortified to assure the stability and durability of the buildings. Specially, Re-bar of SD500 type is largely used at the construction sites of high-rise building. This study analyzes the current usage of SD500 high-strength re-bar at domestic construction sites. Through the result of this analysis, we develop Economic Evaluation Model that measure economic efficiency of lap splice and coupler splice, which are most commonly used in connection SD500. The evaluation method was applied to construction sites in Seoul in December 2006, and the result revealed that coupler splice is relatively superior in terms of cost efficiency when the re-bar diameter is longer and the concrete strength is lower.
