RET Proto Oncogene Mutation Detection and Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma Prevention

  • Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine neoplasia. The medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) is one of the most aggressive forms of thyroid malignancy,accounting for up to 10% of all types of this disease. The mode of inheritance of MTC is autosomal dominantly and gain of function mutations in the RET proto-oncogene are well known to contribute to its development. MTC occurs as hereditary (25%) and sporadic (75%) forms. Hereditary MTC has syndromic (multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2A, B; MEN2A, MEN2B) and non-syndromic (Familial MTC, FMTC) types. Over the last two decades, elucidation of the genetic basis of tumorigenesis has provided useful screening tools for affected families. Advances in genetic screening of the RET have enabled early detection of hereditary MTCs and prophylactic thyroidectomy for relatives who may not show any symptom sof the disease. In this review we emphasize the main RET mutations in syndromic and non syndromic forms of MTC, and focus on the importance of RET genetic screening for early diagnosis and management of MTC patients, based on American Thyroid Association guidelines and genotype-phenotype correlation.

  • Computerized spirometer was developed in a form of proto type system. The system consisted of pneumotachometer, flow measurement unit, fan ventilator unit, and software program. Patient's respiratory flow signal was first converted to corresponding pressure drop signal by a screen type pneumotachometer, sensed by a differential pressure transducer, amplified and low pass filtered, and digitized at a rate of 100 Hz, then fed into a PC thru RS-232C serial port. Customized application software controls data acquisition followed by computation of test parameters. The fan ventilator unit dries and eliminates microorganism in the pneumotachometer after each test. The system performs conventional spirometic tests and manages the test results in a database for retrograde research. The proto type system was fully developed and the commercialized system is currently being built up.

The KMTNet View of Variable Stars : Pulsation and Rotation of the EL CVn-type Eclipsing Binary J0247-25

  • EL CVn-type eclipsing binaries are composed of a massive A-type main-sequence primary star and a hotter B-type secondary one. These are worthy of particular attention because the secondary stars are rare objects to be extremely low-mass white dwarf precursors (ELM proto-WD) with the mass of ${\leq}0.2M_{\odot}$, evolving to higher effective temperatures and higher surface gravities. A few of them were discovered to show multi-periodic pulsations in one or both components. We monitored one of these rare and interesting objects, J0247-25 (=1SWASP J024743.37-251549.2), at two KMTNet sites of SAAO in South Africa and SSO in Australia. The observations were performed with the KMTNet 1.6m telescopes and pre-science 4K CCD cameras during the system test run from July to November 2014. Using the photometric data obtained for a total of 23 nights, we constructed well-defined eclipsing light curves in B/V-bands and derived absolute parameters (mass and radius, etc.) of each binary component. After subtracting model eclipsing curves from the data, we detected seven frequencies with 33~53 cycles per day (c/d) and identified them to be Delta Sct-type pulsations originated from the A-type primary component. Five frequencies were turned out to be excited by rotational splitting of non-radial pressure modes, enabled us to investigate rotational properties. We could not detect any frequency higher than 100 c/d, implying that pulsation amplitudes of the proto-WD secondary decrease greatly.

Chebyshev BPF와 종속 Chebyshev BPF의 리플-천이대역 Trade-offs (Trade-offs Between the Ripple and the Transition Band for the Chebyshev BPF and the Cascading Chebyshev BPF)

  • This study is focusing on the trade-offs between the passband ripples and transition bands of the Chebyshev BPF, which is converted by using the Chebyshev LPF that is well known as a proto-type analog filter. It is also focusing on the trade-offs between the passband ripples and transition bands of the cascading Chebyshev BPF, as well as, the trade-offs between the two BPFs. The study finds the frequency responses of the proto-type analog LPF, the Chebyshev BPF and the cascading Chebyshev BPF. The study shows the results as comparative analysis tables. The study designs the 10th Chebyshev BPF in order to analyze it easily. The simulation results show that the Chebyshev BPF decreases about 55% of the transition band for the -2.5[dB] passband ripple comparing to the -0.5[dB] passband ripple. This study shows the effectiveness and economic feasibility in the restricted frequency communication environment for the decrease of the transition band as providing the passband ripple margin.

흡수식 냉온수기용 저 NOx 가스버너 개발 (Development of Low NOx Gas Burner Absorption Chiller/Heater Unit)

  • For the development of low NO$_{x}$ gas burners aimed for absorption chiller/heater unit, three proto type burners of different capacity (265000, 498000, and 664000 kcal/h) have been manufactured through a combustion method of step-by-step air injection. In order to characterize the overall features of the flame and the properties of the emission gas, the temperature of the flame and the concentration of NO$_{x}$ and CO were determined. The main factors in the design of burners (the area of primary air injection, the diameter of secondary air injection hole, fuel nozzle diameter) were observed to increase linearly with the scale-up of burner capacity. The flame temperature profiles of the burners were observed to be almost similar, irrespective of their capacity. However, as their capacity increased, the flame temperature slightly increased and the hot region of the flames moved to ward the flame tip along with the expansion to the direction of radius. From the proto type units, the amount of their NO$_{x}$ emission was determined to be around 25 - 30 vppm(3% )$_{2}$) and the CO emission was less than 19 vppm (3% $O_{2}$).TEX>).

터보펌프용 커빅커플링의 개발 (A Curvic-Coupling Development for the Turbopump Application)

  • 본 연구에서는 커빅커플링의 설계, 구조해석, 고온 비틀림시험 및 실형상 축-디스크를 제작/조립성 검토를 통해 터보펌프 터빈에의 적용 가능성을 타진하였다. 커플링의 치형은 Gleason 치형을 기본형상으로 하여 설계운용조건의 1.5배의 토크값을 기준으로 설계를 진행하였다. 구조해석 및 고온비틀림 시험을 통해 하중조건하의 안정성을 확인하였으며 특히 비틀림시험 후 커플링의 변형은 미미함을 확인하였다. 커빅커플링을 적용한 실형상 디스크 제작 및 조립시험을 통해 설계요구조건을 하회하는 디스크의 외주 및 축방향 흔들림 그리고 조립재현성을 확인하였다.

분산증폭기 기반 5GHz FIR 필터 LNA 설계 (Design of 5GHz FIR filter LNA based on a Distribute Amplifier)

  • 본 논문에서는 분산증폭기 구조를 기반으로 한 5GHz FIR 필터 low noise amplifier (LNA)를 설계하고 그 특성을 분석한다. 설계된 FIR 필터 LNA는 MA(Moving Average) 필터 특성을 가져 주파수의 선택도를 높였으며, GaAs 기반 개별 소자를 이용한 proto-type 회로를 FR4 PCB와 유전율 ${\varepsilon}_r=10.2$를 가지는 고주파수용 PCB위에 구성하여 ADS(Advanced Design System)로 시뮬레이션 하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과 5GHz 주파수 대역에서 약 10dB 정도의 전력이득을 가지는 LNA 출력 특성과 MA FIR 필터 형태 주파수 선택적인 응답을 보여주었다. FIR 필터 형태의 LNA 설계를 통하여 RF 시스템에서 다양한 형태의 증폭기 및 필터 응용의 가능성을 기대해 볼 수 있다.

  • We report our discovery of a significant population of CN-enhanced red clump stars in the classical bulge component of the Milky Way. Since CN-rich stars trace a population with enhanced Helium, Nitrogen, and Sodium originated in globular clusters (GCs), this is a direct evidence that proto-GCs were the major building blocks in the formation of the classical bulges and early-type galaxies in the hierarchical merging paradigm.

  • In this study, We developed the microprocessor based controller for Auto Section Switch(ASS). This is installed at consumer's medium-high voltage(load capacity is below 4,000 kVA) switchgear. This function is cooperate with protection device of fault section and automatically dividing the section. And It is designed by Air putter type extinction structure and adopt the mechanism and breaking part module of existing Load Breaker Switch. In addition, We successfully conducted the operation test and checked main function of proto-type.
