  • A physical protection system (PPS) is used for the protection of critical facilities. This paper proposes a structure analytic hierarchy approach (SAHA) for the hierarchical evaluation of the PPS effectiveness in critical infrastructure. SAHA is based on the traditional analysis methods "estimate of adversary sequence interruption, EASI". A community algorithm is used in the building of the SAHA model. SAHA is applied to cluster the associated protection elements for the topological design of complicated PPS with graphical vertexes equivalent to protection elements.

  • Proper management on user-driven virtual circuits (VCs) is essential for seamless operation of virtual networks. The Network Provisioning System (NPS) is useful software for creating user-driven VCs automatically and must take fault management into account for physical layer impairments on user-driven VCs. This paper addresses a user-driven and trusty protection management in an NPS with an open standard Network Service Interface (NSI), as a contribution to show how to implement the user-driven and trusty protection management required for user-driven VCs. In particular, it provides a RESTful web service Interface for Configuration and Event management (RICE) that enable management of a distinguished data and control plane VC status between Network Service Agents (NSAs) in the event of a node or link fault and repair in a domain. This capability represents a contribution to show how network and protection events in a domain can be monitored between NSAs (NPSs with the NSI) in multiple domains. The implemented NPS controls and manages both the primary and backup VC with disjoint path in a user-driven manner. A demonstration to verify RICE API's capability is addressed for the trusty protection in the dynamic VC network.

  • For the purpose of designing and applying the optimum surge protection scheme, multi-stage coordinated surge protective device(SPD) system is suitable to successfully fulfill its tasks; first, to divert a large amount of the transient energy, second, to clamp the overvoltage to the level below the withstand impulse voltage of the equipment to be protected. The length of SPD connecting leads shall be as short as possible. Long connecting leads will degrade the protection effect of SPDs. In this paper, the influences of the length of connecting leads on the energy sharing in a coordinated SPD system were investigated experimentally, and the simulation of determining the energy sharing and protection voltage level of each SPD depending on the length of connecting leads was carried out by using P-spice program. It was confirmed that the protection voltage level and energy sharing in coordinated SPD systems are strongly influenced by the length of connecting leads.

  • The defense industry has become a global industry, and military technology is actively being traded between countries to increase their military capabilities. The Republic of Korea has been ranked one of the top 10 countries for exports of military technology. To maintain competitive advantages in the global defense industry, it is essential to protect key technologies employed by exported weapon systems. Various techniques have been developed for protection of confidential technologies in weapon systems, and the U.S. DoD has been leading the development of the protection techniques. This paper reviews current anti-tampering techniques that prevent leakage of key technology from weapon exportation or pillage. Based on the protection techniques employed by the U.S. DoD Anti-Tamper Executive Agent, this paper suggests novel design methods for protection of confidential technologies. The proposed design methods were tested on an actual weapon system.

  • The overpressure protection system for PWR should be designed with sufficient capacity to limit the pressure to less than 110% of the reactor coolant system design pressure during the most severe abnormal operational transient. In this study, the feasibility of adopting the SEBIM POSRV instead of the current spring loaded pop-opening safety valves to the ABB-CE designed 2825 MWt PWR is investigated for its overpressure protection capability. The required SEBIM POSRV size as well as its opening/closing setpoints are determined through a series of computer analyses using the LTC code which has been used for the overpressure protection analysis for Yonggwang units 3&4. The analysis results show that the overpressure protection system with monobloc SEBIM POS-RV can maintain the RCS pressure below 110% of the design pressure demonstrating its overpressure protection capability for the ABB-CE designed 2825 MWt PWRs.

  • This paper is an experimental study on the freezing protection valve used for solar water heating, air-conditioning systems, and plumbing systems. When the phase change occurs from liquid to solid, most of the substances except water volumetrically shrink. And referred to as PCM(Phase Change Material) a substance with such properties, the phase change temperature varies depending on the material. To prevent the freezing of the plumbing system, such as air-conditioning system in the winter season, we developed a several types of freezing protection valve using PCM whose freezing temperature are $2-4^{\circ}C$. The working principle of the freezing protection valve is that the fluid inside the pipe is released to prevent the system-collapse when fluid temperature reaches the freezing temperature of the PCM. And then the valve is closed and returned to the original position automatically when the temperature of the operating fluid rises. In this paper, the operating temperatures, discharge flow rate and the response characteristics of the valve during the operation are tested and investigated. From the results of this research the freezing protection valves employing PCM are expected to be commercialized in the near future.

  • In this paper, we propose the TPS (TPM-enhanced Privacy Protection System) which is an automated privacy protection system enhanced with a TPM (Trusted Platform Module). The TPS detects documents including personal information by periodic scanning the disk of clients at regular intervals and encrypts them. Hence, system manages the encrypted documents in the server. In particular, the security of TPS was greatly enhanced by limiting the access of documents including the personal information with regard to the client in an abnormal state through the TPM-based platform verification mechanism of the client system. In addition, we proposed and implemented a VTF (Virtual Trusted File) interface to provide users with the almost identical user interface as general document access even though documents containing personal information are encrypted and stored on the remote server. Consequently, the TPS automates the compliance of the personal information protection acts without additional users' interventions.

  • The method of suppressing recidivism through punishment centered on punishment is showing limitations through criminal policy research in many countries. As an alternative to this, a restorative judicial law aimed at returning criminals to members of society through reconciliation and coordination of community members, victims, and perpetrators is emerging as a paradigm for crime prevention and recidivism. Sweden is a representative welfare state and is confirming positive effects through correction of criminals based on restorative justice. In addition, it has a stable system related to the legal protection welfare system, and maintains a low recidivism rate and social security through scientific and reasonable operation using evidence-based principles in the evaluation and certification process of operating programs. However, research on the legal protection system implemented in advanced welfare and correctional countries, including Sweden, is still insufficient in Korea. Therefore, this study aims to explore the direction of the domestic legal protection system through a review of Swedish criminal policy and legal protection system, and to identify insufficient areas and complementary points of the domestic system to lay the foundation for improving the domestic legal protection welfare system and expanding business.
