  • -Nun is generally known as a Topic marker in Korean. However, when it is combined with an accent, it is thought to have a different function, which is alleged to indicate 'contrast' (Kuno 1972). Although the fact that -nun marked item generates some kind of 'contrastive meaning' is uncontroversial, what 'contrast(ive)' means is still unclear. In t his paper, I propose that accented -nun generates two types of implicit propositions in addition to its at-issue meaning. A simple sentence has been repeatedly tested in various models in order to see what type of proposition each proposition corresponds to and it has been concluded that one is presupposition and the other is implicature. This tedious-looking test forms the main part of the first-half of this paper. The presupposition is the essential factor for the -nun marked item to obtain the 'contrastive' meaning. Based on the generation of this presupposition, I argue that -nun works as a contrast operator in a sentence. To illustrate -nun's function as a contrast operator forms the latter part of this paper.

  • After analyzing each procedure from standard instrument procedures used at Incheon International Airport, which is believed to have caused noise problems in and around Ganghwa island, we came to a conclusion that some Standard Instrument Departure Procedures and Standard Instrument Approach Procedures need to be revised, and therefore we made some propositions with regard to noise abatement procedures(CDA, RNAV approach etc.). Additionally, we evaluated viability of the proposed flight procedures by conducting a number of demonstrations with use of flight simulation.

  • We extended a minimum spanning tree algorithm (Cho et al., 1997) by characterizing the mutually independent cells with maximizing the grouping efficiency referring to few propositions developed by Shu, 1990 in cellular manufacturing system. Each row of the machine-part incidence matrix is regarded as a node in a graph, and a distance function is defined for every pair of nodes. It shows that there are K mutually independent cells in the cellular manufacturing system if only if there are K-1 arcs of length 1 in the minimum spanning tree of the graph, and gives an effective policy for sub-cell formation from larger cells.

  • Let A be the mod p Steenrod algebra for p an arbitrary odd prime and S the sphere spectrum localized at p. In this paper, some useful propositions about the May spectral sequence are first given, and then, two new nontrivial homotopy elements ${\alpha}_1{\jmath}{\xi}_n\;(p{\geq}5,n\;{\geq}\;3)\;and\;{\gamma}_s{\alpha}_1{\jmath}{\xi}_n\;(p\;{\geq}\;7,\;n\;{\geq}\;4)$ are detected in the stable homotopy groups of spheres, where ${\xi}_n\;{\in}\;{\pi}_{p^nq+pq-2}M$ is obtained in [2]. The new ones are of degree 2(p - 1)($p^n+p+1$) - 4 and 2(p - 1)($p^n+sp^2$ + sp + (s - 1)) - 7 and are represented up to nonzero scalar by $b_0h_0h_n,\;b_0h_0h_n\tilde{\gamma}_s\;{\neq}\;0\;{\in}\;Ext^{*,*}_A^(Z_p,\;Z_p)$ in the Adams spectral sequence respectively, where $3\;{\leq}\;s\;<\;p-2$.

  • Since late 1990's the urban decline phenomenon has risen in most provincial cities in Korea. Many lively discussions have also risen about how to revitalize declined urban center. In small cities, especially resident participation is very important to revive their old vividness. The study then reviewed literatures published from 1995 to 2007 regarding resident participation in urban center revitalization for community reinvigoration. This study consists of four parts. The first part defined concepts of community and of resident participation, and included discussion about resident participation codes. In the second part, the problems about community formation and community facilities were scrutinized through preceding researches. The third and last parts suggested some propositions and strategies to draw resident participation into urban center revitalization.

  • We present a matrix-based inference alorithm suitable for electronic commerce applications. For this purpose, an Extended AND-OR Graph (EAOG) was developed with the intention that fast inference process is enabled within the electronic commerce situations. The proposed EAOG inference mechanism has the following three characteristics. 1. Real-time inference: The EAOG inference mechanism is suitable for the real-time inference because its computational mechanism is based on matric computation.2. Matrix operation: All the subjective knowledge is delineated in a matrix form, so that inference process can proceed based on the matrix operation which is computationally efficient.3. Bi-directional inference: Traditional inference method of expert systems is based on either forward chaining or backward chaining which is mutually exclusive in terms of logical process and exclusive in terms of logical process and computational efficiency. However, the proposed EAOG inference mechanism is generically bi-directional without loss of both speed and efficiency. We have proved the validity of our approach with several propositions and an illustrative EC example.

  • While information technology has been advanced impressively, the issue of system underutilization has continued. Although TAM provides a theoretical and empirical model for explaining information technology acceptance, there exist some issues: lack of focusing task and organization. The present study examines the motivational factors influencing the beliefs about the system, in terms or the extended TTF (task-technology fit) model, to address the issues. For this purpose, an exploratory case study was conducted based on the data gathered from a Web-based survey. The present research proposes five propositions, based on the results of the case study and prior study findings, which can be used as a starting point fur future research.

  • Knowledge Management System is defined as an Information system to support the integrated knowledge management process for maximizing value of the knowledge assets in organizations. From that point of view, the system performance - the usage level of the system and user satisfaction - can be an available measure of the knowledge management system success. Many previous research were focused on the application of a new technological component for knowledge management processes or the construction of the overall system architecture in spite of the importance of the system performance. The purpose of this study is to Identify the factors affecting the knowledge management system performance. To do this, we conducted an exploratory case studies of eight companies. We applied theories of information system success to knowledge management system and investigated some specific strategic components as additional affecting factors. Finally, we proposed research model and ex propositions regarding the factors affecting the knowledge management system performance. The implication of the findings and future research directions were discussed.

  • This thesis establishes two propositions. Firstly the pivotal aspect of postmodern fem-inism is socio-cultural ambivalence which is reflected in postmodern fashion as androgeny. By tracing postmodern element in fashion it is shown that postmodern cultural logic is operating sometimes in a vague weakened form Secondly the fact is taken into analysis that the postmodern discourse is conveyed in reality by the multinational firms which aims at profit maximisation with incessant change of image. In this process the postmodern message is almost removed of its contents only the outer form retained, The originality of the thesis lies mainly in the approach adopted. It combines cultural and socio-economic factors together as compared to the traditional approach which tends to relate a contemporary aesthetic trend mechaniclly to fashion phenomena.

  • We focus on the investigations of the effect of social networks on the diffusion of innovations, in order to successfully bring innovations into markets. We begin with consideration of social system from Rogers(1995)' perspective, which includes the fifty-year sequential tradition of diffusion studies, and expand the conceptualization into a framework for thinking about the effect of social networks on the diffusion of innovations. We draw upon basic ideas from the research traditions of social network theory in sociology, and social identity theory in social psychology. Finally, we offer propositions for the future empirical researches. A better understanding of social networks can complement research on the diffusion of innovations and help in the development of a universal model of consumer response to innovations.
