  • In this study, a survey was conducted on Chinese students in a university in Busan, in order to investigate the relationship between oral health-related self-efficacy and quality of life according to smoking experience of Chinese students living in South Korea. The results of analyzing collected data with the SPSS 24.0 program showed that students without smoking experience had higher scores in brushing, oral health-related self-efficacy and oral health-related quality of life than those with smoking experience. Brushing self-efficacy was positively correlated with oral health-related self-efficacy, and oral health-related self-efficacy was positively correlated with oral health quality of life, which were all statistically significant. It was found that the presence or absence of smoking experience was associated with oral health promotion and improvement of quality of life in foreign students. Thus, the results of this study are expected to be used as basic data by conveying the necessity of developing oral health promotion programs for healthy living of foreign students.

  • Objectives: The present study aims to examine associations between job demands and problem drinking, smoking, and practice of regular exercise among middle-aged and older male employees. Methods: Analyses were based on 239 employees aged 50+ and participated the 1st(2006) and the 4th(2012) waves of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing(KLoSA). Panel logit regression analyses were performed to explore longitudinal associations between physical and cognitive job demands and the health behaviors when effects of demographic characteristics and objective job conditions were controlled. Results: Results suggested that first, workers who reported greater cognitive job demands were less likely to engage in problem drinking over the 6-year-period. Second, increased physical demands of the job were associated with greater odds of smoking, while physical demands predicted a reduced likelihood of practicing regular exercise. Conclusions: Results from the present analyses emphasize job demands could lead workers to problem health behaviors and suggest areas for health promotion efforts at the workplace that are sensitive to the needs of aging workers.

Methods: Oral hygiene promotion program was performed in 23 community child centers in Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggido. The study analyzed the effect of community oral hygiene promotion programs on the oral hygiene practice behavior in children from September to December, 2014. The trained dental hygienists in 23 public health centers and dental hygiene students participated in the oral hygiene promotion program for oral health examination and education for the children. The contents of the program was standardized and instructed to the team members. The individual improvement in children oral hygiene practice was assessed using PHP(patient hygiene performance) index score. Data were analyzed using SPSS 12.0 program. Results: After the program, children who stopped eating confectioneries and those eating once a day increased to 32.12% and 14.24%, respectively. Those eating more than four times a day were still high(32.44%), but it was a lower rate than before the program (p<0.001). The rate of toothbrushing of more than 2 to 3 times a day was 82.75% and it was higher than before the education (p<0.001). The knowledge level of children increased from 18.83% to 66.30%. The oral hygiene practice performance in children was highly improved. Conclusions: The four months duration of oral hygiene program remarkably improved the oral hygiene practice in the children. So the community health centers and welfare centers must cooperate and improve the children oral health promotion by developing the oral health promotion program.

  • There is no prior research on organizational commitment and supervision for social welfare public officials in charge of public-private cooperation in public welfare fields. Therefore we are designed to determine the impact of social welfare public officials' public-private cooperation awareness on organizational commitment to verify the moderating effect of supervision on the effect between public-private cooperation awareness and organizational commitment. The analysis data is 242 questionnaires collected from Incheon public health and welfare officials visiting towns, villages, and villages in 10 counties. Using the SPSS 22.0 program, descriptive statistics and relationships between variables were analyzed, regression analysis was performed to analyze the influence between variables, and hierarchical regression analysis was performed to verify supervision control. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that the perception of public-private cooperation affects organizational commitment, interacts with supervision satisfaction, and has a moderating effect. Based on this, in order to improve the organizational commitment of social welfare public officials during public-private cooperation work, specific measures were proposed for sharing awareness and understanding between the public and private sectors, establishing an official system, and establishing a supervision system.

  • The purpose of this study is to monitor the implementation of UN Convention on the Rights of the Children (CRC) and to find out new directions for the promotion on the children's rights in Korea. Based on the module of International Save the Children Alliance (1993) about the children's rights and the Indicators of Korean Children's Wellbeing (Korean Council for Children's Rights, 1999), the revised Korean child welfare law (2000) as a related domestic law has compared with the 54 articles of CRC (1989). The results of this study are analyzed as follows: The Korean child welfare law has only 2 articles on the civil and political rights of the children in special need and neglects the economic, social and cultural rights of the general children at home. In consequence the Korean law has few survival rights of the general children for securing their adequate living standards and supplementing their parents' role. And it limits only to the development rights of the children in special need, therefore, it neglects the genera: children's rights to information, play and leisure, cultural activities. Above all, it has only 2 articles on the participation rights of the children in special circumstances. On the other hand, based on the indicators of Korean Children's Wellbeing, the collected data say that the budget for the child welfare is only 1.12% of the total budget of the ministry of the health and welfare and its 96.28% is for the children in substitutional care. Based on the results, implications for practice and future research are discussed, and new directions for the promotion of the children's rights are also suggested.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to comprehensively compare the trends of health administration and health policy in the field of health care using the semantic network analysis in the inaugural address of the Ministry of Health and Welfare of each regime in Korea. Methods: This study used a language network analysis method that uses Korean Key Words In Context (KrKwic) program and NetMiner program in sequence. The analysis was conducted by Minister Hwa-joong Kim during the Moo-hyun Roh government, Minister Jae-hee Jeon during the Myung-bak Lee government, Minister Young Jin of Geun-hye Park government and Government Jae-in Moon's inaugural address of Neung-Hoo Park Minister, respectively. Results: The key words differentiated by each regime are that the Moo-hyun Roh Government's Minister Hwa-joong Kim had high connection centrality values in the words 'balanced development', 'comprehensive' and 'reform'. Minister Jae-Hee Jeon of Myung-bak Lee Government had high connection centrality values in the words 'poverty' and 'return'. In the case of Minister Young Jin of Geun-hye Park Government had high connection centrality values in the words 'demand', 'Customized' and 'Life cycle'. In the case of Minister Neung-Hoo Park of Jae In Moon Government had high connection centrality values in the words 'Welfare state', 'Embracing' and 'Soundness'. Conclusions: If the role of health administration in the health care field and the health care policies are constantly changed according to the policies of each regime, it is inconsistent and it is difficult to approach from the long term perspective for public health promotion. In the future, health policy should be developed and implemented with a long-term perspective and consistency based on the consensus and participation of the people with less influence on the change and direction of each government's policies.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of muscle strength exercise on physical function and quality of life in the frail elderly. Methods: Subjects were 401 frail elderly people selected by the screening tool developed by Japan department of Health, Labor and welfare. The program was carried out for twice a week for 12 weeks. Data were analyzed with paired t-test and t-test using STATA program. Results: 1) Muscle strength exercise for the frail elderly showed statistically significant effects on improving grip strength, single leg stand, TUG(Time up to go) and quality of life. 2) The grip strength and single leg stand indicators showed statistically significant effects between the over 75 years old and the under 75 years old. However, TUG and quality of life indicators didn't show statistically significant effects between the over 75 years old and the under 75 years old. Conclusions: The muscle strength exercise for the frail elderly people was very effective on improving grip strength, single leg stand, TUG and quality of life and especially, it was more effective in the over 75 years old than in the under 75 years old.
