  • For enlarging the applications of microstereolithography, the use of diverse materials is required. In this study, the material switching system (MSS) for projection microstereolithography apparatus is proposed. The MSS consists of three part; resin level control, resin dispensing control, and vat level control. Curing characteristic of materials used in fabrication has been identified. Through repeated fabrication of test models, the critical fabrication error is investigated and a possible solution to this error is suggested. The developed system can be applied to improve the strength of microstructure and extended to fabricate an array of microstructures with multiple materials.

  • The large amounts of high dimensional data contains a significant amount of noises by it own sparsity, which adds difficulties in high dimensional clustering. The CLIP is developed as a clustering algorithm to support characteristics of the high dimensional data. The CLIP is based on the incremental one dimensional projection on each axis and find product sets of the dimensional clusters. These product sets contain not only all high dimensional clusters but also they may contain noises. In this paper, we propose extended CLIP algorithm which refines the product sets that contain cluster. We remove high dimensional noises by applying two dimensional projections iteratively on the already found product sets by CLIP. To evaluate the performance of extended algorithm, we demonstrate its effectiveness through a series of experiments on synthetic data sets.

  • There have been two opposing views on the structure of the so-called head internal relative construction(HIRC) in Korean/Japanese, i.e., a view that analyzes the HIRC categorially as a nominal projection and functionally as an argument(Kuroda 1992, Watanabe 1992, Hoshi 1996, Jhang 1991/1994, among others) vs. a view that analyzes the HIRC categorially as an adjunct clause and functionally as a non-argument(Murasugi 1994). This paper on the one hand points out several phenomena indicating that Murasugi's analysis is more viable, while on the other hand proposing a more complex structure than Murasugi's to account for other facts as well. The no/kes clause in the HIRC will be analyzed as the complement of a null perception verb whose projection constitutes part of an adjunct clause.

  • Learning and analyzing 3D point clouds with deep networks is challenging due to the limited and irregularity of the data. In this paper, we present a data-driven point cloud augmentation technique. The key idea is to learn multilevel features per point and to reconstruct to a similar point set. Our network is applied to a projection loss function that encourages the predicted points to remain on the geometric shapes with a particular target. We conduct various experiments using ShapeNet part data to evaluate our method and demonstrate its possibility. Results show that our generated points have a similar shape and are located closer to the object.

  • The registration is an important part of image processing and pattern recognition. In this paper, the integral projection method is proposed as the first stage of the two-stage template matching. The computation time of the proposed method is one-tenth of that of the two-stage template matching technique with a sub-template. This method is applied to a noisy (real)image with a different bias level and gives a correct template position, while the two-stage template matching technique with a sub-template cannot detect correctly.

  • In this paper, we propose two approaches for the character segmentation on Korean document images. One is an improved version of a projection profile-based algorithm. It involves estimating the number of characters, obtaining the split points and then searching for each character's boundary, and selecting the best segmentation result. The other is developed for low quality document images where adjacent characters are connected. In this case, parts of the projection profile are cut to resolve the connection between the characters. This is called ${\alpha}$-cut. Afterwards, the revised former segmentation procedure is conducted. The two approaches have been tested with 43,572 low-quality Korean word images punted in various font styles. The segmentation accuracies of the former and the latter are 91.81% and 99.57%, respectively. This result shows that the proposed algorithm using a ${\alpha}$-cut is effective for low-quality Korean document images.

  • This paper presents the development of the Inspection machine for SMD mounted on cream solder of PCB. There are mounting errors of SMD such as misalignment, missing part, wrong orientation, wrong polarity and so on. The main hardware of the system consists of a machine vision part and a motion control part. Operating software has been developed in GUI environment to help user convenience. The Inspection Jobs consist of two procedures, that is, creation of the inspection reference data and automatic inspection. The Inspection reference data has a tree structure of linked list including PCB information, blocks, components, windows, and inspection methods. This paper presents versatile inspection methods which include a section length method, a projection method and histogram method. Therefore, user can choose the suitable procedure for various components. Finally, the automatic Inspection procedure using the reference data checks the mounting errors of components.

  • The effect of tool angles on the surface roughness in face milling is studied. First, the relation between tool angles and rotation angles is identified. Using this relationship, it is obtained that the projection of insert nose shape on cutting profile, which is a part of ellipse. The effect of spindle tilt is also considered for the tool angles. It si shown that tool angles along with nose radius and feed rate have an effect on surface roughness.

  • Character segmentation is a preprocessing step in many offline handwriting recognition systems. In this paper, Chinese characters are categorized into seven different structures. In each structure, the character size with the range of variations is estimated considering typical handwritten samples. The component removal and merge criteria are presented to remove punctuation symbols or to merge small components which are part of a character. Finally, the criteria for segmenting the adjacent characters concerning each other or overlapped are proposed.
