Moving Temperature Profile Method for Efficient Three-Dimensional Finite Element Welding Residual Stress Analysis for Large Structures (대형구조물의 효율적 3차원 용접잔류응력해석을 위한 새로운 이동 온도 프로파일 방법)

  • For three-dimensional finite element welding residual stress simulation, several methods are available. Two widely used methods are the moving heat source model using heat flux and the temperature boundary condition model using the temperature profile of the welded beads. However, each model has pros and cons in terms of calculation times and difficulties in determining welding parameters. In this paper, a new method using the moving temperature profile model is proposed to perform efficiently 3-D FE welding residual stress analysis for large structures. Comparison with existing experimental residual stress measurement data of two-pass welding pipe and SNL(Sandia National Laboratories) mock-up canister shows the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method.

A Study on the Profiles Transition and Storage Movement on the Profiles at HAEUNDAE Beach (해운대(海雲臺)사빈(砂濱)의 단면(斷面)의 천이주행(遷移走行) 및 저류(貯溜) 표사량(漂砂量) 변화특성(變化特性)에 관한 연구(研究))

  • The wave and hydrologic climate at a beach location are everchanging and coastal engineers have always been interested in the deformation of the natural beach caused by wave action over short or long interval of time. The drift of sand on a beach particulary manifests itself when blocked construction of seawalls, jetties, breakerwaters and groins etc.${\cdots}$ For this reason, the understanding and evaluation of littoral drift has been especially important to the coastal engineers. The resulting of the sand drift movement, such as the type of beach profile, width of beach, storage volume of the littoral sand over the profile are rapid everchange. We have studied the geological changes due to the littoral drift on a beach with field investigation and model tests in laboratory. But, it is impossible to make quantative correct analysis because of the factors are everchange and complicate. And then, most of study are incline to qualitative analysis. In this paper, authors studied mainly on the transition of beach profile and sediment storage on the profile using statistical field data as qualitative analytical method. The used theoretical beach transition model by Sonu and Beek have developed to obtain the change of HAEUNDAE beach backed with seawall. Results of this study indicate that the transition model are useful in the analysis of beach profile changement and the littoral drift movement on the beach. Qualitative analysises for HAEUNDAE beach are as follows. 1) Transition sequence of profile has 4 major transition for one cycle. 2) Storage sediment model of beach profile by Sonu and Beek well coincided with HAEUNDAE beach. 3) Seasonal cycle has ill-balanced process for the 5-yr. investigation.

  • In this paper, and optimum profile of a cam being used in a VTR Deck mechanism is designed by the response surface analysis. The objective function of the design is to reduce driving torque of the pinch roller system that is used to compress video tape to the capstan motor axia. The pinch roller system that will be designed is modeled using the general purpopse mechanism analysis program DADS. The computer model is compared with the physical system for reliability. A model function to represent relationship between design variables and the objective function is estimated by the response surface analysis. Once the model function is reliably estimated the optimal design is carried out using the model function and each design variable's boundaries. To verify improvement of the pinch roller system, a prototype for the pinch rooler system is made and tested. From the test result, an optimum cam profile to resuce driving torque of the pinch roller system is verified.

  • The knowledge about structure of the velocity in the stream IS essential in the investigation of stream meandering, erosion and sediment transport, and dispersion of pollutants in the stream. In this study, theoretical velocity profile model in which transverse profile of the longitudinal velocity in the stream can be predicted using stream hydraulic data was developed. The proposed model was tested with the measured velocity data of the Nakdong river. The result shows that the numerical model simulates properly the general shalxc of the measured velocity profiles. The simulated profiles agree well with measurements, especially in the aspects of skewness and flatness.atness.

Optimum Cam Profile Design and Experimental Verification on an OHC Type Cam-valve System (OHC형 캠-밸브 기구의 최적 캠 형상설계 및 실험적 검증)

  • In this work, a 6 degree of freedom lumped mass model is constructed for an OHC-type cam valve train analysis, and the model is verified experimentally. Using the verified model, an optimum cam profile is designed to minimize the maximum contact force between cam and follower under the constraints such as cam lift and cam event angle. The designed cam was carefully machined and tested experimentally. As operating the designed cam shaft on the test rig, the valve motion was precisely measured with laser displacement meter and the contact force was indirectly monitored by measuring strain at a certain point of the finger follower. Judging from the model simulation and experiment results, the maximum contact force can be reduced as much as more than 16.7 percent under maintaining the original valve flow area by adopting the optimum cam profile.

  • Dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) is a widely used chemical model for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It is thought that imbalances in the T helper (Th) cell subsets contribute to IBD. Recent studies suggest that the acute DSS-colitis model is polarized toward a Th1/Th17 profile based on RT-PCR analysis of colonic tissues. In the current study we determined whether colonic Th cells from DSS-colitis mice were skewed toward the Th17 profile. Mice were treated with 5% DSS for 7 days and colonic T cells isolated and examined for production of IFN-${\gamma}$ (Th1 cell), IL-4 (Th2 cell) and IL-17 (Th17 cell) by intracellular flow cytometry. We found that the percentage of colonic Th17 cells were similar to non-treated controls but the percentage of Th1 cells were elevated in DSS-colitis mice. These results suggest that in the acute DSS-colitis model the colonic Th cells exhibit a Th1 profile and not a Th17 profile.

Study of Beach Profile Change with a Fixed Artificial Bar Using a Numerical Model (수치모델을 이용한 인공 연안 사주가 있는 해빈 단면 변화 연구)

  • The changes of beach profile with a natural longshore bar and beach profile with a fixed artificial bar are studied, respectively, using a numerical model. The quasi three dimensional wave-current-sediment transport model is applied with an addition of boundary condition for sediment transport on the artificial structure under water. The study shows that the natural bar adapts itself to the change of coastal physical environment by adjusting its location but the fixed artificial bar causes the formation of a second natural bar seaward of the fixed bar and scouring at the rear of the fixed bar. This study can be applied to work on the change of beach profile with submerged breakwaters.

The Prediction of Void Fraction in the Subcooled Boiling Region (서브쿨드 비등 영역에서의 기포계수 계산에 관한 연구)

  • A state-of-the-art mechanistic model has been developed to accurately predict the void fraction in the subcooled boiling region having axial nonuniform heat flux. In this study, the void-dependent drift-flux parameters of the Lahey/Ohkawa model were introduced and the mass flux-dependent condensation coefficient were determined by fitting with the experimental data. This model was tested against several experimental data sets to verify its accuracy. Finally the comparison between the predicted void fraction profiles with this model and the profile-fit model for the hot assembly of Kori-Unit 1, Cycle 1 has been performed. It is conclusive that the results show the good agreement between the measured and predicted void fractions, and the profile-fit model has been found to underestimate the void fraction in the subcooled boiling region.

Finite Element Model for Wear Analysis of Conventional Friction Stir Welding Tool

  • In our study, we develop a finite element model based on Archard's wear law to predict the cumulative wear and the evolution of the tool profile in friction stir welding (FSW) applications. Our model considers the rotational and translational behaviors of the tool, providing a comprehensive description of the wear process. We validate the accuracy of our model by comparing it against experimental results, examining both the predicted cumulative wear and the resulting changes to the tool profile caused by wear. We perform a detailed comparison between the predictions of the model and experimental data by manipulating non-dimensional coefficients comprising model parameters, such as element sizes and time increments. This comparison facilitates the identification of a specific non-dimensional coefficient condition that best replicates the experimentally observed cumulative wear. We also directly compare the worn tool profiles predicted by the model using this specific non-dimensional coefficient condition with the profiles obtained from wear experiments. Through this process, we identify the model settings that yield a tool wear profile closely aligning with the experimental results. Our research demonstrates that carefully selecting non-dimensional coefficients can significantly enhance the predictive accuracy of finite element models for tool wear in FSW processes. The results from our study hold potential implications for enhancing tool longevity and welding quality in industrial applications.

A UML Profile for Specifying Component Design as MDA/PIM (컴포넌트 설계를 MDA/PIM으로 명세하기 위한 UML프로파일)

  • Component Based Development (CBD) is appealing as a technology to improve the productivity of software development through component reuse. Model Driven Architecture (MDA) is a new development paradigm which automatically generates application by transforming design models incrementally. Since both reusability of CBD and model transformation of MDA increase software productivity. integration of two technologies is desirable. To enable this technology integration, we need to devise a UML profile for specifying component design as a PIM. In this paper, we first define a meta-model for components, and propose a UML profile which is used to specify elements of component design as PIM. Since the proposed profile is based on Meta Object Facility (MOF) from which is MDA is derived, it is consistent and compatible with existing MDA methods and tools.
