The participants of the study were ten social workers, who have been working in a medical setting for at least seven years and were recognized as competent social workers by at least five other colleagues. The data were collected through intensive interviews. The contents of the interviews were analyzed by using Nvivo2, a computer software program for use qualitative study analysis. The result of this study categorized coping strategies that kept the social workers from burnout. Among such factors were their own admissions of having professional competency, feeling worthwhile and sense of accomplishment, having a firm belief system and value about their profession, teamwork, and their overall disposition. Additionally, they said that the support by their agency and the recognition and support by family contributed to their overall coping ability. Through this study, it was found that the social workers in medical setting were reducing risk factors related to burnout and overcoming them with various protective factors. These protective factors reflected the unique characteristics that social workers encounter in a medical setting. The researcher identified the relationships among empowerment, burnout, and organizational commitment of hospital nurses. Methods: The sample included 415 hospital nurses. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS and AMOS. Results: The average incivility score was 2.94 from doctors and 2.89 from patients or patients' families, higher than from supervisors (1.90) and coworkers (1.87). The variables affecting burnout included direct effect of empowerment (${\beta}$=-.46, p<.001), direct effect of patients or patients' family incivility (${\beta}$=.14, p<.001), direct effect of supervisor incivility (${\beta}$=.12, p<.001), and direct effect of doctor incivility (${\beta}$=.09, p<.001). The variables affecting organizational commitment were direct effect of burnout (${\beta}$=-.58, p<.001), indirect effect of empowerment (${\beta}$=-.23, p<.001), indirect effect of patients or patients' family incivility (${\beta}$=-.12, p<.001), indirect effect of supervisor incivility (${\beta}$=-.10, p<.001), and indirect effect of doctor incivility (${\beta}$=-.09, p<.001). Conclusion: The results indicate that incivility affecting nurses results in a high degree of burnout and a low degree of organizational commitment. • Purpose: To investigate the effect of nurses' emotional labor on their turnover intention that was mediated by burnout and to examine the moderated mediation effect of authentic leadership. Methods: A total of 227 nurses working at two general hospitals in Seoul were recruited from March 21 to May 6 in 2016. Emotional labor including surface acting and deep acting; burnout factors such as emotional exhaustion and personal accomplishment; and turnover intention were assessed. The data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 and SPSS PROCESS macro. Results: Surface acting significantly increased emotional exhaustion and reduced personal accomplishment. Deep acting significantly increased personal accomplishment. Emotional exhaustion significantly increased turnover intention. Conversely, personal accomplishment significantly reduced turnover intention. Surface acting had an indirect effect on turnover intention that was mediated by emotional exhaustion. Deep acting had an indirect effect on turnover intention that was mediated by personal accomplishment. Authentic leadership had a moderated mediation effect on the relationship between surface acting and turnover intention that was mediated by emotional exhaustion. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that the establishment of strong authentic leadership by head nurses would help nurses reduce their burnout and turnover intention. Conducting intervention studies would be also important to promote better work environments that would enable nurses to fortify the positive aspect of emotional labor and to reduce their burnout levels.

A total of 227 nurses, including general, charge, and head nurses, who have worked in an emergency department at university hospitals, general hospitals, and junior general hospitals located in Gyeongnam, Daegu and Gyeongbuk areas over a period of 6 months. Data were collected between December 12 and December 29 of 2015. We analyzed the data with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and three-step mediated regression analysis using SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. The average scores of emotional labor, compassion satisfaction, compassion fatigue, burnout, and emotional dissonance were 4.50 out of 7.00, 31.62 out of 50.00, 29.48 out of 50.00, 29.27 out of 50.00, and 5.02 out of 7.00, respectively. Emotional labor had significant effects on compassion fatigue and burnout, showing explanatory power of 12% and 29%, respectively. Emotional dissonance had partial mediating effects in the relationship between emotional labor and compassion fatigue and complete mediating effects in the relationship between emotional labor and burnout. In summary, to improve the professional quality of life of nurses, it is necessary to develop effective strategies to minimize their emotional labor and emotional dissonance.

Results: The mean score of resilience to burnout and work satisfaction of participants were 3.59 and 3.69, respectively. The highest and lowest scores of resilience to burnout were individual resources (3.81) and accomplishment and worthiness (3.36). There were significant differences in resilience to burnout scores, depending on religion, health status, type of hospice facilities, and period of volunteer experience. There were significant differences in work satisfaction scores, depending on gender, religion, education level, health status, and type of hospice facilities.
