  • This study is concerned with the machine part grouping m cellular manufacturing. To group machines into the set of machine cells and parts into the set of part families, new p-median model considering the production data such as the operation sequences and production volumes for parts is proposed. Unlike existing p-median models relying on the classical binary part-machine incidence matrix which does not reflect the real production factors which seriously impact on machine-part grouping, the proposed p-median model reflects the production factors by adopting the new similarity coefficient based on the production data-based part-machine incidence matrix of which each non-binary entry indicates actual intra-cell or inter-cell flows to or from machines by parts. Computation test compares the proposed p median model favorably.

  • Competitive power is rapidly manufacture product required consumers. Therefore, modern industry have changed from small item many production to many item small production. rapid production is necessary thing at the product development. Thus, rapid prototyping is appeared. If the graphic model was made by CAD, the production can be made in short term. That provide what the part was directly tested by the worker. It provide believable data. This study is experiment on surface roughness of part at FDM

  • The short-term production planning of an automated manufacturing system is to determine the production rate of each part type or family of part types. The purpose of this paper is to develop an optimal algorithm for solving the short-term production planning problem while machine failures, repairs. and changes in demand requirements are anticipated. The problem is formulated by LP and it shows that the production surplus is approached or stays at the hedging point. In addition, the long-term average frequencies of set-us with relation to a multilevel hierarchical production planing scheme are considered An example to show the effectiveness of the algorithm is presented.

  • In this paper an effective two-phase approach adopting modified p-median mathematical model is proposed for grouping machines and parts in cellular manufacturing(CM). Unlike the conventional methods allowing machines and parts to be improperly assigned to cells and families, the proposed approach seeks to find the proper block diagonal solution where all the machines and parts are properly assigned to their most associated cells and families in term of the actual machine processing and part moves. Phase 1 uses the modified p-median formulation adopting new inter-machine similarity coefficient based on the non-binary production data-based part-machine incidence matrix(PMIM) that reflects both the operation sequences and production volumes for the parts to find machine cells. Phase 2 apollos iterative reassignment procedure to minimize inter-cell part moves and maximize within-cell machine utilization by reassigning improperly assigned machines and parts to their most associated cells and families. Computational experience with the data sets available on literature shows the proposed approach yields good-quality proper block diagonal solution.

  • This study reveals the sheet metal working with multi-forming type ultra precision process. They require analysis of many kinds of important factors, i.e. theory and practice of metal press working and its phenomena, die structure, machining condition for die making, die material, heat treatment of die components, know-how and so on. In this study, we designed and constructed a multi-forming ultra precision progressive die as a bending and drawing working of multi-stage and performed through the try out for thin sheet metal. This part I of papers related to the analysis of production part and strip process layout design through the metal forming simulation by DEFORM and IDEAS.

  • We study the firm's strategy to price its products and plan the spare parts manufacturing so as to maximize its profit and at the same time to fulfill its commitment to providing the customers with the key parts continuously over the relevant decision time horizon, i.e., the production plus warrantee period. To examine the research question, we developed and solved a two-stage optimal control theory model. Our analysis suggests that if the cost to produce the spare part during the warrantee period is more expensive than that during the production period, the firm should increase its sales price gradually throughout the production period to control its sales. In addition, during the production period it is optimal for the firm to produce the spare parts more than needed so that the overproduced spare parts can be used to partially meet the demand during the warrantee period. We conducted numerical analysis to investigate the sensitivity dynamics among key variables and parameters such as inventory holding cost, unit spare part production costs, part failure rate, and parameters in the demand function.

  • A method for forming production cells in cellular manufacturing systems is presented. The basic approach is based on part-machine group formation by using relationship matrix calculated from the original part-machine matrix. The cases of exceptional elements and bottleneck machines are discussed. The proposed method can work with any starting form of part-machine matrix and provides the same solution regardless of the changes of starting form of part-machine matrix for any given problem.

  • This paper presents a similarity coefficient based approach to the problem of machine-part grouping for cellular manufacturing. The method uses relevant production data such as part type, production volume, routing sequence to make machine cells and part families for cell formation. A new similarity coefficient using weighted factors is introduced and an algorithm for formation of machine cells and part families is developed. A comparative study of two similarity coefficients - Gupta and seifoddini's method and proposed method - is conducted. A software program using TURBO C has been developed to verify the implementation.
