  • Korean shipbuilders are starting to use three dimensional solid CAD systems to enhance their competitiveness in design and production. Despite many merits, three dimensional CAD systems reveal some problems in pipe-line modeling. Pipe-line modeling is heavily dependent on point data in routing. However, since the models built by sweeping or skinning operations do not have data about points and lines on the surfaces, the point data for routing are currently manually calculated by considering the diameters of the pipes and alignment conditions with other pipes. This process is inefficient and prone to errors. In order to enhance the pipe modeling, this paper presents an Offset Routing Program for a three dimensional CAD system, which aids designers to easily define the start points and to generate the pipe routings using reference objects.

Mechanical Properties of High Strength Hot Strips For Line Pipe Application (라인파이프용 고강도 열연강판의 기계적 성질)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of alloying and rolling condition on the mechanical properties and to develop high strength line pipe steels with good toughness. Tests were carried out by the laboratory experiments followed by mill trials and mass production. It was found that a small addition of microalloying elements, such as Nb, V with Mo or Ti remarkably increased the strength and toughness of hot strips. The optimum condition of thermomechanical rolling on low carbon microalloyed steel improved the toughness through the formation of a fine and uniform microstructure. Based on this mill trials following the fundamental research, the production technology of line pipe steels, grade X70∼X100 with high toughness, has been established. These grade steels exhibit excellent low temperature toughness (vTs= under -80$^{\circ}C$) and sufficient strength in both the base metal and the ERW seam weld position, respectively.

  • The current 3D CG animation pipe line, which is the production system, does not have an effective solution that all animation departments are able to start their jobs independently against other animation departments. It is generally acknowledged that we could not do animating task before the modeling and set-up task. This kind of process has caused loss of labour. We could expect lasting problems which is stopping marking animating process before the previous process done again in case of requiring editing the jobs which are modeling and set-up. We could solve these "bottleneck" situation with "master character" defined as standard, so that animate and retake the job independently against other departments. These new process could accelerate the animation pipe line system.

  • In the field of Micro-Mechanics, it has been known diffcult to integrate the micro-machine with sensor and source line for the conventional copper line cnanot be used in compact and small size. We developed a system to make thethin copper film as a connect line on the poyurethane pipe (2mm in diameter) by the evaporation technique. This system consists of an evaporation chamber two long branches, substrate hoider and a Linear-Rotary motion feed feedthrough. The results showed that thin copper film coated polyurethanc pipe could be applied th the small medical devices such as the micro active endoscope.

  • Practical use degree of Motion Capture technology is low in korea game market which did growth of MMORPG putting first. However, that is dance game or FPS, sports game genre is magnified. Therefore, practical use degree of Motion Capture technology is increasing. And, need various research to take advantage of Motion Capture technology effectively. Studied 3D game character animation manufacture pipe line for it. Characteristic of this manufacture pipe line is work classification, correction of two times, Biped format all-in-one to progress Motion Capture technology and keyframe-animation work at the same time. Also, manufacture pipe line that is consisted of this constituent has economic performance, extensity, systemicity.

  • Pipe vibration caused great threat to the safety in production. Strong pipeline vibration will line accessories, especially the joints and pipe fittings etc. pipe joints loosening and rupture, causing serious accidents. By the action of the compressor constant fluid flow within the pipe, this process produces pulsating fluid flow may cause vibration of the pipe, thereby reducing the efficiency of the pipeline, structural vibration induced fatigue, thereby resulting in even piping structural damage. This paper studies on the vibration problems caused by fluid, by analyzing the causes of pipeline vibration and factors affecting pipeline vibrations, FEM (Finite Element Method) analysis of modal and enforced vibration.

  • The automatic inspection system is developed for the formed end part of automotive fuel pipe. The developed system has functions of outer diameter and formed end length measurement by LVDT(linear variable differential transformer) together with burr cleaning of automotive fuel pipe. The measured data are managed and controlled in real time by embedded SPC(statistical process control) program. The system is composed of mechanical part, electronic part and developed software system. These three parts operate automatically by mutual communication with each other. The developed system showed good results in finding inferior goods and efficiency improvement of the fuel pipe production line. It also eliminated the unreliable manual inspection processes and improved the confidence of product quality.

  • In this study, we used In-line orifice mixer for efficient chemicals mixing in water treatment. The method of using In-line orifice mixer has been already proved the improvement of water treatment efficiency. Numerical study was performed using FLUENT, a commercial code, to standard design and production of effective In-line orifice mixer. As variable for exactly standardizing, a proper ratio between an outer diameter of cone and a diameter of pipe, a distance between cone and orifice, a determination of orifice diameter for an optimal mixing, a distance between injection nozzle's position and cone, Numerical study has been performed for optimal standard and analyzed flow field on a basis of turbulent intensity in an orifice downstream.

Visualization of Crust in Metallic Piping Through Real-Time Neutron Radiography Obtained with Low Intensity Thermal Neutron Flux

  • The presence of crust on the inner walls of metallic ducts impairs transportation because crust completely or partially hinders the passage of fluid to the processing unit and causes damage to equipment connected to the production line. Its localization is crucial. With the development of the electronic imaging system installed at the Argonauta/Nuclear Engineering Institute (IEN)/National Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN) reactor, it became possible to visualize crust in the interior of metallic piping of small diameter using real-time neutron radiography images obtained with a low neutron flux. The obtained images showed the resistance offered by crust on the passage of water inside the pipe. No discrepancy of the flow profile at the bottom of the pipe, before the crust region, was registered. However, after the passage of liquid through the pipe, images of the disturbances of the flow were clear and discrepancies in the flow profile were steep. This shows that this technique added the assembled apparatus was efficient for the visualization of the crust and of the two-phase flows.

Failure Analysis of Austenitic Stainless Steel Pipe (오스테나이트계 스테인레스 강관에서의 손상해석에 관한 연구)

  • A cracking failure of a austenitic stainless steel elbow in a naphtha cracking line in a petrochenmical plant occurred, resulting in leakage of organic compound flowing inside the elbow. Due to the failure, emergency shutdown of the plant was enforced to repair the troubled part of the line. The repair cost as well as production loss during the unscheduled plant shutdown has cost the company a great amount of financial loss. In this studies, a failure analysis of the cracked elbow was performed using NDT, chemical analysis, microstructural analysis including optical microscopy as well as scanning electron microscopy with EPMA, mechanical testings such as tensile testing, hardness testing and Charphy impact test fractography. The results indicated that several problems such as a welding defect and presence of a detrimental phase which was found to be relate to improper postforming heat treatment process was identified and the failure was concluded to be due to a low temperature embrittlement of the defect-containing elbows.
