Soil and groundwater contamination by petroleum hydrocarbon products is only one of many environmental problems in Korea. However, many environmental consulting companies have been targeted their business on this subject because the petroleum-oil-lubricant (POL) products have been widely used product and accidental releases of the products from storages resulted numerous small and large contaminated sites throughout Korea. Therefore, many small and large companies are actively participating in environmental assessment and remediation projects for the POL contaminated sites. Remedial technologies for the POL contaminated sites have been developed for many years by government and private institutions throughout the world. Development of a new decontamination technology for the POL contaminated sites is no longer attractive issue in research community because scientific bases of most cost-effective remedial technologies are well understood and have been used in the field by commercial sector. Numerous sites contaminated by underground tanks at gas stations have been remediated by relatively small companies in this country. We should appreciate their noticeable contributions as a frontier under very difficult market environment in Korea. We heard many successful stories as well as a few failure stories. Soil-groundwater remediation of POL contaminated site is not a simple task as shown in the text books or protocols. Therefore, failure risk is always with us, which requires continuous efforts for improvement of the technologies by the users and developers. In this presentation, author will discuss technical problems encountered and improvement made during implementation of several remedial technologies applied by Samsung Environmental Team. This is not a presentation about research or case study. We want to share our thought and experience with environmental engineers actively engaged in soil and groundwater remediation projects in Korea.

The present study was undertaken to examine serum concentration of free $T_3,\;T_4$, in various functional states of the thyroid by Amerlex RIA kit method, which uses unidentified $T_3,\;T_4-labelled$ analogues, said to be unreactive with $T_3,\;T_4-binding$ proteins in serum, together with an antibody that binds both analogue and $T_3,\;T_4$. The test method has been compared with free $T_4$ index, which was product of total serum thyroxine and $T_3$ resin uptake ratio. Free $T_4$ value by this method was found to have a highly significant positive correlation with a free $T_4$ index (r; 0.957, p<0.005) and total $T_4$ (r:0.89, p<0.005) also, it was similar to other free $T_4$ measuring methods previously reported. So, it was showen to have the clinical utility as the screening test for thyroid function because it was a rapid; convinient, and reliable method for quantifying the free $T_4,\;T_3$ concentration in various thyroidal functional states.

For mapping the distribution of heavy metals in the mining area, field spectroscopy and hyperspectral remote sensing were used in this study. Although heavy metals are spectrally featureless from the visible to the short wave infrared range, possible variations in spectral signal due to heavy metals bound onto minerals can be explained with the metal binding reaction onto the mineral surface. Variations in the spectral absorption shapes of lattice OH and oxygen on the mineral surface due to the combination of heavy metals were surveyed over the range from 420 to 2400 nm. Spectral parameters such as peak ratio and peak area were derived and statistically linked to metal concentration levels in the streambed samples collected from the dry stream channels. The spatial relationships between spectral parameters and concentrations of heavy metals were yielded as well. Based on the observation at a ground level for the relationship between spectral signal and metal concentration levels, the spectral parameters were classified in a hyperspectral image and the spatial distribution patterns of classified pixels were compared with the product of analysis at the ground level. The degree of similarity between ground dataset and image dataset was statistically validated. These techniques are expected to support assessment of dispersion of heavy metal contamination and decision on optimal sampling point.
As an economic, high quality, and highly reliable gear with low noise and low vibration is demanded, an overall finite element analysis regarding a gear is required. Also, an infrared thermography test, which is a quantitative testing technique, is demanded for safety and longer lifespan of gear products. In order to manufacture a gear product or to determine safety of a gear being used, it is necessary to precisely determine ingredients of a material constituting a gear and detect any internal defect. This study aims to realize a design that minimizes the spur gear displacement with respect to power during its rotation and ensures the spur gear control capacity by using a 3D model and the midasNFX program. This facilitates the assessment of the possibility of cracking by evaluating the stress intensity and focusing on the integrity of the spur gear. We prepare the specimen of the spur gear based on the possibility of cranking as per the result of the structural interpretation from an infrared ray thermal measuring technique. After cooling the spur gear, we perform experiments using thermography and halogen lamps and analyze the temperature data according to the results of the experiment. In the experiment which we use thermography after cooling, we find a rise in the temperature of the room. As a result, the defective part show temperatures lower than their surroundings while the normal parts have temperatures higher than the defective parts. Therefore, it possible to precisely identify defective part owing to its low temperature.
Patterns of abnormality in regional cerebral perfusion and its relation to clinical severity was evaluated with 32 head injury patients using $^{99m}Tc-HMPAO$ single photon emission tomography (SPECT). The findings were compared with computed tomography (CT) done within 48 hours of each SPECT study. The initial SPECT study was done within 7 days of injury in 16 cases, between 1 week and 2 months in 12, and after over 2 months in 4. Nineteen of the patients underwent followup SPECT and CT after a mean interval of 1 to 2 months. The initial SPECT showed abnormalities in 96% (31/32) of the patients while CT showed abnormal findings in only 81% (26/32). There were a total of 54 supratentorial SPECT lesions in all. Ninity percent (49/54) of these were of regional hypoperfusion, while 5 lesions showed focal hyperperfusion. The lesions were most often localized in the frontal and temporal lobes. Fifty five percent (30/54) were areas not detected as a lesion on CT. Cerebellar diaschisis was observed in 50% (16/32) of the patients. The degree of perfusion abnormality was quantified by the product of differential activity and a size factor. Correlation between the degree of perfusion abnormality and the clinical severity (Glasgow coma scale) failed to show statistical significance (p=0.053). The amount of change in the degree of perfusion abnormality on follow up SPECT was compared to the amount of change in clinical severity. Perfusion abnormality showed a tendancy to improve in most patients, and the degree of improvement showed significant correlation with the amount of clinical improvement (p < 0.01).
Background: This paper aims to demonstrate current health expenditure (CHE) and National Health Accounts of the years 2015 constructed according to the SHA2011, which is a new manual of System of Health Accounts (SHA) that was published jointly by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Eurostat, and World Health Organization in 2011. Comparison is made with international trends by collecting and analysing health accounts of OECD member countries. Particularly, financing public-private mix is parsed in depth using SHA data of both HF as financing schemes as well as FS (financing source) as their revenue types. Methods: Data sources such as Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service's publications of both motor insurance and drugs are newly used to construct the 2015 National Health Accounts. In the case of private financing, an estimation of total expenditures for revenues by provider groups is made from the Economic Census data; and the household income and expenditure survey, Korean healthcare panel study, etc. are used to allocate those totals into functional classifications. Results: CHE was 115.2 trillion won in 2015, which accounts for 7.4 percent of Korea's gross domestic product. It was a big increase of 9.3 trillion won, 8.8 percent, from the previous year. Government and compulsory schemes's share (or public share) of 56.4% of the CHE in 2015 was much lower than the OECD average of 72.6%. 'Transfers from government domestic revenue' share of total revenue of HF was 17.8% in Korea, lower than the other contribution-based countries. When it comes to 'compulsory contributory health financing schemes,' 'Transfers from government domestic revenue' share of 14.9% was again much lower compared to Japan (44.7%) and Belgium (34.8%) as contribution-based countries. Conclusion: Considering relatively lower public financing share in the inpatient care as well as overall low public financing share of total CHE, priorities in health insurance coverage need to be repositioned among inpatient care, outpatient care and drugs.
The purpose of this study is for providing not only the latest design technique trend for zero waste fashion, but information about creative fashion design education through eco-fashion industry trend in globally and domestic which is focusing on eco-fashion labelling. The research were processed with literature related eco, sustainable, green fashion books, former articles, newspapers, and web sites. The results as follows; The certification about eco-fashion product is moving to 'Life Cycle Assessment' from focused on primary process like material, finishing, dyeing. Especially simplicity of process means reducing the wastes. And fabric wastage for adult outwear was estimated 15% percent of total fabric used in general design studios. Three cases for Zero waste fashion were as follows; First, Jigsaw puzzle by Timo Rissane and Mark Liu were different zero waste methods, but the result was same. Rissene's method was based on traditional cutting like 'cut and sew' but traditional cutting can lead to design that have an abundance of fabric and drape. Jigsaw of Rissene was approached with description a pattern-cutting technique in which all piece interlock with each other generating no waste from design production. Another Jigsaw by Liu was related with innovative textile design. DTP makes the possibilities for zero waste garment production almost endless. The dress intricately cut from 10 pieces, wastes none of the fabric required to make it. Second, Subtraction Cutting by Julian Roberts provides unexpected fluid, organic forms and zero waste fabric. Utilizing Roberts plug(tunnel) technique enables any part of the garment that is removed for fit or aesthetics to be reincorporated into the design of garment. Third was 'Bio Couture' by Suzanne Lee. She has created garments from cellulose bacteria which grow in a bathtub using only green methods addressing in such as way ecological issues and exploring the future of fashion design in conjunction with technology.

This research is to estimate the toxicity of Atractylodis Rhizoma Alba (ARA) in F344 rats and to find a dose level for the 13 weeks toxicity study. A hot water extract of ARA (ARWE) was administered orally to F344 rats at dose levels of 0 (vehicle control), 500, 1000, 2000, 3500, and 5000 mg/kg/day for 2 weeks. Each group was composed to five male and five female F344 rats. According to the result, there were no ARWE-related adverse changes in mortality, body weights, food consumption, urinalysis, hematology, clinical chemistry, gross finding at necropsy, and organ weight examination. Salivation was observed in 3500 and 5000 mg/kg/day in male and female rats but it could not have found any relationship with ARWE administration. Based on our findings, ARWE may not cause toxicity in rats under the experimental conditions. Therefore, dose level of 5000 mg/kg/day as a highest treatment group in 13-week exposure study is recommended for further toxicity assessment.
