Film absorption involves simultaneous heat and mass transfer in the vapor-liquid system. In the present work, the absorption process of water vapor by an aqueous soluton of LiBr flowing inside of the vertical tube was investigated. The continuity, momentum, energy and diffusion equations for the solution film and vapor were formulated in integral forms and solved numerically. The model could predict the film thickness, the pressure gradient, and the heat and mass transfer rate. Particularly the effects of vapor flow conditions on the absorption process were investigated in terms of the vapor Reynolds number. As the vapor Reynolds number increased, the shear stress at the vapor-solution interface also increased. Consequently solution film became thinner at higher vapor flowrate under the co-currentflow condition. Thinner film was capable of higher heat transfer to the wall and leaded to higher absorption rate of the water vapor into the solution film.
Temperature distribution, transformation and residual stresses generated during the quenching process of carbon steel. It follows many difficulties in the analytical considerations on those quenching process because of the coupling effects on temperature and metallic structures. In this paper one of the basic study on the quenching stresses was carried out for the case of the round steel bar specimen(SM45C) with 40mm both in its diameter and length. The temperature distributions considering strain hysteresis were numerically calculated by finite element technique. In calculating the transient temperature field, the heat flux between water and rod surface was determined from the heat transfer coefficient. The gradient of temperature is almost same to geometric of specimen. At early stage of the quenching process, the abrupt temperature gradient has been shown in the surface of the specimen.
The term 'High Speed Machining' has been used for many years to describe end milling with small diameter tools at high rotational speeds, typically 10,000-100,000rpm. The process was applied in the aerospace industry for the machining of light alloys, notably aluminum. In recent year, however, the mold and die industry has begun to use the technology for the production of components, including those manufactured from hardened tool steels. With increasing cutting speed used in modern machining operation, the thermal aspects of cutting become more and mole Important. It not only directly influences in rate of tool weal, but also affects machining precision recognized as thermal expansion and the roughness of the surface finish. Hence, one needs to accurately evaluate the rate of cutting heat generation and temperature distributions on the machining surface. To overcome the heat generation, we used to cutting fluid. Cutting fluid plays a roles in metal cutting process. Mechanically coupled effectiveness of cutting fluids affect to friction coefficient at tool-workpiece interface and cutting temperature and chip control, surface finish, tool wear and form accuracy. Through this study, we examined the behavior of heat generation in high-speed machining and the cooling performance of various cooling methods.
The present paper investigated the effect of ultrasonic vibrations on the melting process of a phase-change material (PCM). Furthermore, the present study considered constant heat flux boundary conditions unlike many of the previous researches adopted constant wall temperature conditions. Therefore, in the present study, modified dimensionless parameters such as Ste* and Ra* were used. Also, general relationships between melting with ultrasonic vibrations and melting without ultrasonic vibrations were established during the melting of PCM. Experimental observations show that the effect of ultrasonic vibrations on heat transfer is very important throughout the melting process. The results of the present study reveal that ultrasonic vibrations accompany the effects like agitation, acoustic streaming, cavitation, and oscillating fluid motion. Such effects are a prime mechanism in the overall melting process when ultrasonic vibrations are applied. They enhance the melting process as much as 2.5 tildes, compared with the result of natural melting. Also, energy can be saved by applying ultrasonic vibrations to the natural melting. In addition, various time-wise dimensionless numbers provide conclusive evidence of the important role of ultrasonic vibrations on the melting phenomena.
The hydration of cement contributes to the performance characteristics of concrete, such as strength and durability. In order to improve the utilization efficiency of cement and its early properties, the particle size distribution (PSD) of cement varies considerably, and the effects of the particle size distribution of cement on the hydration process should be considered. In order to evaluate effects of PSD separately, experiments testing the isothermal heat generated during the hydration of cements with different particle size distributions but the same chemical composition have been carried out. The measurable hydration depth for cement hydration was proposed and deduced based on the experimental results, and a PSD hydration model was developed in this paper for simulating the effects of particle size distribution on the hydration process of cement. First, a reference hydration rate was derived from the isothermal heat generated by the hydration of ordinary Portland cement. Then, the model was extended to take into account the effect of water-to-cement ratio, hereinafter which was referred to as PSD hydration model. Finally, the PSD hydration model was applied to simulate experiments measuring the isothermal heat generated by the hydration of cement with different particle size distributions at different water-to-cement ratios. This showed that the PSD hydration model had simulated the effects of particle size distribution and water-to-cement ratio on the hydration process of cement with satisfactory accuracy.

In the semiconductor heat-treatment process, the temperature uniformity determines the film quality of a wafer. This film quality effects on the overall yield rate. The heat transfer of the wafer surface in the heat-treatment process equipment is occurred by convection and radiation complexly. Because of this, there is the nonlinearity between the wafer temperature and reactor. Therefore, the accurate prediction of temperature on the wafer surface is difficult without the direct measurement. The thermal camera and the T/C wafer are general ways to confirm the temperature uniformity on the heat-treatment process. As above ways have limit to measure the temperature in the precise domain under the micro-scale. In this study, we developed the thin film type temperature sensor using the MEMS technology to establish the system which can measure the temperature under the micro-scale. We combined the experiment and numerical analysis to verify and calibrate the system. Finally, we measured the temperature on the wafer surface on the semiconductor process using the developed system, and confirmed the temperature variation by comparison with the commercial T/C wafer.
This study investigates the surface modification of a Hastelloy X plate and diffusion bonding in the assembly of surface modified plates. These types of plates are involved in the key processes in the fabrication of a process heat exchanger (PHE) for a $SO_3$ decomposer. Strong adhesion of a SiC film deposited onto Hastelloy X can be achieved by a thin SiC film deposition and a subsequent N ion beam bombardment followed by an additional deposition of a thicker film that prevents the Hastelloy X surface from becoming exposed to a corrosive environment through the pores. This process not only produces higher corrosion resistance as proved by electrolytic etching but also exhibits higher endurance against thermal stress above 9$900^{\circ}C$. A process for a good bonding between Hastelloy X sheets, which is essential for a good heat exchanger, was developed by diffusion bonding. The diffusion bonding was done by mechanically clamping the sheets under a heat treatment at $900^{\circ}C$. When the clamping jig consisted of materials with a thermal expansion coefficient that was equal to or less than that of the Hastelloy X, sound bonding was achieved.

The distribution of temperature obtained by the solution of Schumann equation and that of experimentally obtained on tile cooling process of packed bed of citrus unshu show a good agreement, and the maximum deviation is only $1-2^{\circ}C$. The agreement means that it is possible to apply the Schumann model to the cooling process of packed bed of citrus unshu. In considering respiration heat, the numberical result by the solution of the equation is that in case of the velocity of gas $(3^{\circ}C)$ is above 1m/sec, becomes below 0.01 and effect of respiration heat is negligible and in case of below 1m/sec the velocity of gas $(3^{\circ}C)$ is above 0.01 and the effect of respiration heat must be consideied. We Present the Practically easily applicable figure of cooling characteristic line on the both . cases of short term cooling Process and long time storage of citrus unshu.
Hot rolled strip is cooled by air and water in Run-Out-Table. In this process, phase transformation and shape deformation occurs due to temperature drop. Because of un-ideal cooling condition of ROT, irregular shape deformation and phase transformation arise in the strip. which affect the strip property and lead to the residual stress of strip. And these exert effects on the following processes, coiling process, coil cooling process, and re-coiling process. Through these processes, the residual stress becomes higher and severe. For the prediction of residual stress distribution and shape deformation of final product, Finite element(FE) based model was used. It consists of non-steady state heat transfer analysis, elasto-plastic analysis. thermodynamic analysis and phase transformation kinetics. Successive FEM simulation were applied from ROT process to coil cooling process. In each process simulation, previous process simulation results were used for the next process simulation. The simulation results were matched well with the experimental results.
