  • Purpose : This research is aimed at developing a substantive theory related to the experience of adjustmented hemodialysis patients by identifying and analyzing the nature, process, and types of adjustment experienced by them. For this purpose, this study takes a grounded theory approach. Method : Data were collected from April, 2002 through September, 2002 through in-depth interviews and close observations of eleven hemodialysis patients who have experienced adjustment. With their consent, the interviews were recorded by audio tapes and later transcribed. Observation memos were also prepared on the subjects' behavior during the interviews. Data collection continued until saturated. The data were analyzed into concepts, subcategories, and categories with the open coding process. The axial coding was done to identify the relationships of the concepts and categories. And the selective coding was done to develop a core category, which is the central phenomenon of the hemodialysis patients who experienced adjustment. Result : This process resulted in 88 concepts, which may be grouped into 24 subcategories and 6 core categories. The 6 categories, in fact, depict the process of changes the patients experience from the sense of crisis, self-control, new life meaning, support system, coping ability, and quality of life improvement. And its core is self-control, which encompasses the dynamic stages from recognition, change attempts, belief solidification, and empowerment. Conclusion : The results of the research offer the following implications. First, research on adjustment is a formative stage in nursing, it is imperative for nursing researchers to develop them, which may be more relevant to nursing. Second, it is important to develop nursing intervention techniques that may be most effective in adjustment of hemodialysis patients and at the same time for each stage of changes taking place in adjustmented hemodialysis patients.

  • Objectives : Yiyuan(醫原) written by Shi Shoutang(石壽棠) is well known for its focusing on the concept of dryness and dampness in medical theory. This study was done to analyze the formation process of main academic thought in Yiyuan, which included tracing its original sources that had made it possible to construct the main idea in this book. Methods : Firstly, Yiyuan was analyzed in comparison with Yili(醫理) by Yu Guopei(余國佩), which is regarded as the main origin of Yiyuan. And secondly, many diverse medical theories before Yu Guopei and Shi Shoutang was scrutinized to understand the process of the construction of dryness/dampness-centered medical theory. Results & Conclusions : Shi Shoutang took over the main idea of Yu Guopei and expanded it both in theoretical and clinical aspects. Especially, the most remarkable contribution by Shi Shoutang can be said that he used the astronomical theory which had the concept of multi-layered heaven and intensified the theoretical basis of medical theory emphasizing the significance of dryness and dampness. Besides, Shi Shoutang's medical theory was a thing which was also based on many cumulative assertions about dryness and dampness before him. Yu Jiayan's assertion on dryness and dampness could be acknowledged as the most influential one, and it also could be said that the arguments surrounding the property of dryness had formed the main question in the development of medical theory centered on dryness and dampness.

  • In the process of modernization from the traditional Korean Han-bok to today's modernized fashion. The Republic of Korea received the most influences form the United States among other western countries. The U. S. A. was the primary country who helped to release S. Korea from Japanese colonization in 1945, and provided the most economic and military aids after the Korean War in 1950. The purpose of this case study is to find out the traits of Americanization in modern Korean fashion through sociocultural evidences and reference pictures. The Americanization can be defined as the U. S. A. influencing cultures of other countries, and sometimes resulted in the substitution of a given culture with American culture. Americanization generally is a part of westernization. The analogous terms for Americanization, are Coca-colonization, McDonaldization, Starbuckslization, and Hollywoodization. The theories related to Americanization are theory of economic determination, global system theory, conspiracy theory, modernization theory, and theory of dependence. However, Americanization of Korea cannot be explained in one single theory, but only can be explained as a hybrid of two cultures. There also is a critical viewpoint of de-Americanization. Americanization of Korea were studied in three important chronicles, a period of modernization (1945-1950s), a period of industrialization & popularization(1960s-1970s), and a period of consumerization(1980s-present). The traits of Americanization in the process of modernizing Korean fashion, were found as simplicity, functionality, popularity(kitsch & mimicry), anti-traditional ethics(unchastity & skin revealing), and materialism(lavishness & trends).

  • This study was a qualitative investigation of the process of adaptation of nutrition education programs by marriage immigrant women who completed education programs for training of food citizen leaders. Focus group interviews of seven marriage immigrant women from Vietnam, China, Mongolia and Russia were conducted and analyzed based on the Normalization Process Theory (NPT). Participants were aware of the purpose of the education program (coherence) and their confidence in organizing and reconstructing the knowledge of nutrition was increased after education (reflexive monitoring). However, they had difficulties attending long-term education programs (cognitive participation) and overcoming language barriers (collective action). Although the program was beneficial for the participants in that they could apply acquired nutrition knowledge to their everyday life as food citizen leaders, the continuous monitoring and feed-back system (management), customized application, and consideration of personal and social factors need to be developed and facilitated. In addition, various programs targeting marriage immigrant women may increase economic independence of these women. The NPT proved beneficial in conceptualizing the barriers and facilitators to implementing nutrition education. The successful implementation of nutrition intervention needs special support to overcome barriers to cognitive participation and collective action.

  • The study examined the XBRL adoption process of Malaysian Business Reporting System (MBRS) by utilizing Everett Rogers' Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) theory. The study focused on the three phases, namely, knowledge gathering and persuasion phase, decision-making phase, and implementation phase of XBRL adoption process gathered from a government agency in Malaysia. This study employs a qualitative case study that incorporates semi-structured interviews with four members of the regulator. The results reveal that the regulator has realized the advantages, management support, and need to skills development in phase one. On the other hand, in phase two, it finds the way the regulator makes decision related to XBRL taxonomy and submission template, platform, tools and software. Through phase three, the regulator is concerned with the complexity of XBRL taxonomy, resources, external support, promotion, stakeholder involvement, limited trading pressure, critical mass, and professional bodies. The factors from each phase suggest an in-depth understanding on the experience of XBRL through the development of MBRS that provides a success story to the other government agencies and regulators in Malaysia. This study provides several insights on the factors that could contribute to the adoption of XBRL and the Diffusion of Innovation theory adoption process.

  • Aging is a senescence and defined as a normal physiologic and structural alterations in almost all organ systems with age. As Leonard Hayflick, one of the first gerontologists to propose a theory of biologic aging, indicated that a theory of aging or longevity satisfies the changes of above conditions to be universal, progressive, intrinsic and deleterious. Although a number of theories have been proposed, it is now clear that cell aging (cell senescence) is multifactorial. No single mechanism can account for the many varied manifestations of biological aging. Many theories have been proposed in attempt to understand and explain the process of aging. Aging is effected in individual by genetic factors, diet, social conditions, and the occurrence of age-related diseases as diabetes, hypertension, and arthritis. It involves an endogenous molecular program of cellular senescence as well as continuous exposure throughout life to adverse exogenous influences, leading to progressive infringement on the cell's survivability so called wear and tear. So we could say the basic mechanism of aging depends on the irreversible and universal processes at cellular and molecular level. The immediate cause of these changes is probably an interference in the function of cell's macromolecules-DNA, RNA, and cell proteins-and in the flow of information between these macromolecules. The crucial questions, unanswered at present, concerns what causes these changes in truth. Common theories of aging are able to classify as followings for the easy comprehension. 1. Biological, 1) molecular theories - a. error theory, b. programmed aging theory, c. somatic mutation theory, d. transcription theory, e. run-out-of program theory, 2) cellular theories - a. wear and tear theory, b. cross-link theory, c. clinker theory, d. free radical theory, e. waste product theory, 3) system level theory-a. immunologic/autoimmune theory, 4) others - a. telomere theory, b. rate of living theory, c. stress theory, etc. Prevention of aging is theoretically depending on the cause or theory of aging. However no single theory is available and no definite method of delaying the aging process is possible by this moment. The most popular action is anti-oxidant therapy using vitamin E and C, melatonin and DHEA, etc. Another proposal for the reverse of life-span is TCP-17 and IL-16 administration from the mouse bone marrow B cell line study for the immunoglobulin VDJ rearrangement with RAG-1 and RAG-2. Recently conclusional suggestion for the extending of maximum life-span thought to be the calory restriction.

  • The purpose of this article is to find out psychological mechanism on the core of misconceptions. Theoretical frame to search for the core of misconceptions is based on the Pascual-Leone's neo Piagetian theory. Although Pascual-Leone's theory is a cognitive developmental theory, its psychological mechanism gives us new insights on misconception. According to the comparison between Pascual-Leone's psychological mechanism and the common specifics of misconceptions and their items, conclusions could be summarized as follows: 1) Children's misconceptions and LC learning structures have the same nature. 2) Structures in items of misconceptions and misleading factor structures in cognitive tasks affect mental process with the same mechanism. 3) LC learning structures was activated preferentially in knowledge structures by F operator, with the same activation mechanism, the process children's misconceptions was activated firstly among other conceptions could be explained.

  • This paper presents the general system theory and its applications to the safety analysis method that is a recent trend over the traditional event-driven model. This new model is known as STAMP(Systems Theory Accident Modeling and Process)proposed by Nancy G. Leveson in MIT. The new model has benefits of systemic approaches concerning the system safety as a whole including the context it is in, its stimulants and outcomes, and its parts as well as the relationships among them in a holistic manner. The method consists of a hierarchical control structure, a process model, and the safety constraints governing the control. This paper demonstrates an example the contrasts the differences between the approaches of STAMP and the traditional safety models.

  • This paper suggests to predict the failure of helical gear extrusion die. The basic assumption that constitutes the frame-work for any combined stress failure theory is that failure is predicted to occur when the maximum value of stress becomes equal to or exceeds the value of the same modulus that produces failure in a simple uniaxial stress test using the same material. The stresses which were calculated to each critical points are applied maximum normal stress theory and distor-tion energy theory. The theroretical analysis and experimental results for Samanta process and New process dies were com-pared.
