  • In this paper, through simulations, we find the second derivative SPA(Smoothed Perturbation Analysis) estimates of mean busy cycle with respect to a given parameter in a Markov renewal process which is generated by two exponential distributions. We compare these SPA estimates with the traditional SD(symetric difference) estimates.

A Study on the Status of Work Environment in the Manufacturing with Less Than Five Workers in Gimhae Area (김해지역 5인 미만 제조업 사업장의 작업환경실태)

  • For the purpose of preparing the fundamental data on working environment of small scale manufacturing industries and preventing the occupational diseases of workers in these industries, authors surveyed the status of working environment to several chemical substances and physical agents by types of industry and types of process in the small scale manufacturing industries with less than five workers in Gimhae including 235 workplaces, 14 types of industry and 25 types of process from January 2002 to December 2004. This measurement method was work environment measurement method (established in Ministry of Labor, Korea), analytical methods (2nd Ed.) of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and manual of analytical methods (4th Ed.) of National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and collected data was analyzed by using SPSS 10.0 for windows, the results were as follows: 1. Noise generated in 14 types of industry and 22 types of process. an actual level of mean exposure (90.7 dB(A)) exceeded threshold limit values (TLVs) in manufacture of other transport equipment. An actual level of mean exposure (90.2dB) exceeded TLVs in the process of wire-drawing and 90.4dB in the process of wire-stranding. 2. Dusts of type I, II, III were generated in 9 types of industry and 8 types of process. Its mean concentration did not exceed TLVs. 3. Heavy metals (Pb, Mn, Cr, Ni) were generated in 7 types of industry and 7 types of process. Its mean concentration did not exceed TLVs. 4. 16 kinds of organic solvents were generated in 11 types of industry and 6 types of process. Its mean concentration did not exceed TLVs. As the above results, chemical substances and physical agents were generated in the several different types of industry and process of the manufacturing industry with less than five workers, and only mean level of noise was exceeded TLVs. In case of exceeding threshold limit values, improvement of work environment is actively needed, and work environment management should be performed continuously for prevention of an occupational diseases and work related diseases.

  • Tube drawing process is more sensitive to the friction coefficient but it is a hard task to analyze it's disposition qualitatively. This paper aims to calculate the mean friction coefficient from author's direct equation which amended from general rod drawing process, and compare the result with SACHS' or WILLIAM'S. From this study, the thickness change was inspected in multi-pass drawing. The thickness affected with the mean friction coefficient and the thickness was deformed more thicker than initial thickness on the condition of good lubrication. For the sake of a good estimation of mean friction coefficient, the radial force of die must be considered when the drawing process has some more area reduction about more than 10 percents.

  • We consider the problem of selecting the most profitable initial process mean and length of production cycle for manufacturing processes subject to a constant linear trend during the same cycle that varies after resetting the processes. Assuming that the quality characteristic of interest is normally distributed, the optimum initial process mean and the length of production cycle are jointly obtained by minimizing the expected loss per unit time. We assume that the quality loss function due to the deviation from the target value is quadratic and resetting loss is constant. We consider both cases of symmetric and asymmetric quality loss function. An illustrative example is given and sensitivity analysis performed.

A Study on UBM Method Detecting Mean Shift in Autocorrelated Process Control

  • In today's process-oriented industries, such as semiconductor and petrochemical processes, autocorrelation exists between observed data. As a management method for the process where autocorrelation exists, a method of using the observations is to construct a batch so that the batch mean approaches to independence, or to apply the EWMA (Exponentially Weighted Moving Average) statistic of the observed value to the EWMA control chart. In this paper, we propose a method to determine the batch size of UBM (Unweighted Batch Mean), which is commonly used as a management method for observations, and a method to determine the optimal batch size based on ARL (Average Run Length) We propose a method to estimate the standard deviation of the process. We propose an improved control chart for processes in which autocorrelation exists.

Estimation of VOCs Emissions from Small-Scale Surface Coating Facilities in Seoul

  • Purpose: VOCs (volatile organic compounds) are all the organic compounds that react with solar rays and increase the concentration of ozone in the troposphere and are partially also known as carcinogens. The adsorption using activated carbon is usually applied to remove VOCs. Research design, data and methodology: The 20 places of surface coating facilities were selected to evaluate the emission amount of VOCs in Seoul. In addition, the removal efficiency of VOCs in 25 places of automobile coating facilities was evaluated. Results: The average emission amount of VOCs was 10.903 kg/hr from automobile coating facilities, while 3.520 kg/hr from other surface coating facilities. The removal efficiency in adsorption with the combustion catalytic process has the mean value of 87.9% and the regeneration efficiency of activated carbon has the mean value of 95.0%. Conclusions: The removal efficiency in adsorption with the biofiltration process has the mean value of 89.8% and the regeneration efficiency of activated carbon has the mean value of 94.8%. The removal efficiency in the plasma catalyst process has the mean value of 79.3%.

  • Gaussian process regression (GPR) is a powerful method used for model-independent analysis of cosmological observations. In GPR, it is important to decide an input mean function and hyperparameters that affect the reconstruction results. Depending on how the input mean function and hyperparameters are determined in the literature, I divide into four main applications for GPR and compare their results. In particular, a zero mean function is commonly used as an input mean function, which may be inappropriate for reconstructing cosmological observations such as the distance modulus. Using mock data based on Pantheon compilation of type Ia supernovae, I will point out the problem of using a zero input and suggest a new way to deal with the input mean function.

THE SOJOURN TIME AND RELATED CHARACTERISTICS OF THE AGE-DEPENDENT BRANCHING PROCESS

  • An age-dependent branching process where disasters occur as a renewal process leading to annihilation or survival of all the cells, is considered. For such a process, the total mean sojourn time of all the cells in the system is analysed using the regeneration point technique. The mean number of cells which die in time t and its asymptotic behaviour are discussed. When the disasters arrival as a Poisson process and the lifetime of the cells follows exponential distribution, elegant inter- relationships are found among the means of (i) the total number of cells which die in time t (ii) the total sojourn time of all cells in the system upto time t and (iii) the number of living cells at time t. Some of the existing results are deduced as special cases for related processes.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors which influence the process of problem solving in nursing students during clinical practice. Method: Data were collected by questionnaires from 511 nursing students in from April 10 to June 10, 2011. Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple regression procedures. Result: The values regarding self-leadership (mean 3.62), self-directed learning readiness (mean 3.53) and problem solving process (mean 3.37) were higher than the median. There were significant correlations between all the predictive variables and the process of problem solving. The greatest factors influencing the process of problem solving in nursing students were self-leadership and self-directed learning readiness (54.3%). Conclusion: By using the results of this study as a foundation, nursing education curriculum should be comprised of self-leadership and self-directed learning readiness for improvement of nursing students' problem solving process.

  • In an industrial process, the proper objective is to find the optimal operating conditions with minimum process variability around the target. Vining and Myers(1990) suggest to use the separate model for the mean response and the process varian linear predictor ${\tau}_i={\log}\;{\sigma}^2_i$ is unknown and should be estimated. Noting that the variance of $\hat{{\tau}_i}$ is heterogeneous, another appropriate D-optimality criterion $D_3$ based on the method of generalized least squares is proposed in this paper.
