  • We estimated the critical current distribution of the long length CCs using hall probe method, and checked the reliability by comparing with the four-probe dc transport method. The deviation ratio of $I_{c-T}$ (a measured critical current by four probe dc transport method) and $I_{c-H}$ (calculated critical current by formula (3).) was nearly smaller than 12%. The Hall probe method appeared powerful to evaluate the critical current of CCs in a reel to reel system.

  • Certified reference materials (CRMs) have been used to calibrate surface profilers for reliable measurements. In this paper, we present a newly designed step height CRM which has a step height pattern with two different widths and various special patterns for checking radial magnification, distortion of optical viewing systems, etc. Especially, it could be useful for multi-probe inspection instruments in the manufacturing lines. The fabrication was done by conventional optical lithography and dry etching process with optimized conditions. To verify the step height values, a white-light scanning interferometer was used with objective lenses having magnification of $10{\times}$ and $100{\times}$. CRMs with nominal step heights of $0.5\;{\mu}m$, $1\;{\mu}m$, $3\;{\mu}m$, $5\;{\mu}m$, $7\;{\mu}m$, and $10\;{\mu}m$ were fabricated and the uniformity of these CRMs was evaluated to be less than 3 nm ($1{\sigma}$).

  • In this paper, a new structure of probe unit is designed and fabricated with PDMS, which is well-known elastic material, as a buffer layer for increasing overdrive force and mechanical strength. In general, PDMS is widely used as actuation material due to its elasticity and compatibility of fabrication process. In this work, PDMS layer is chosen for mechanical elasticity of the proposed probe unit. We achieved the high overdrive force by placing PDMS buffer layer under the silicon based cantilever due to its elasticity. Moreover, the relation between prove length and overdrive force was measured by experiment in this work. Therefore, the various specifications of the micro prove unit can be designed by using the results of this work.

  • We fabricated a closed coils by using resistive-joint method and the joint resistance of the coils were estimated by field decay technique in liquid nitrogen. We used the Runge-kutta method for the numerical analysis to calculate the decay properties. The closed coil was wound by $(Bi,Pb)_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_x$/Ag tape. Both ends the tape were overlapped and soldered to each other. The current was induced in a closed coils by external magnetic flux density. Its decay characteristic was observed by means of measuring the magnetic flux density generated by induced current at the center of the closed coil with hall sensor. The joint resistance was calculated as the ratio of the inductance of the loop to the time constants. The joint resistances were evaluated as a function of critical current of loop, contact length, sweep time, and external magnetic flux density in a contact length of 7 cm. It was observed that joint resistance was dependent on contact length of a closed coil, but independent of critical current, sweep time, and external magnetic flux density. The joint resistance was measured to be higher for a standard four-probe method, compared with that for the field decay technique. This implies that noise of measurement in a standard four-probe method is larger than that of field decay technique. It was estimated that joint resistance was $8.0{\times}10^{-9}{\Omega}$ to $11.4{\times}10^{-9}{\Omega}$ for coils of contact length for 7 cm. It was found that 40Pb/60Sn solder are unsuitable for persistent mode.

  • A cDNA of coagulation Factor IX gene has been screened from the $\lambda$gt11 human fetal liver cDNA library, and used to construct a 2.8-kb full length cDNA after recombining with the N-terminal fragment from pTZ-FIX. Human genomic DNA was isolated, digested with the restriction endonucleases, TaqI, EcoRI, and HindIII, and Southern hybridization was performed using the full length factor IX cDNA as a probe. The hybridized bands generated by the restriction endonucleases were the followings: TaqI, 0.3, 1.0, 1.6, 1.8, 2.7, 3.7, and 5.3 kb bands; EcoRI, 1.8, 4.8, 4.9, 5.5, 6.8, and 12.6 kb bands; HindIII, 4.1, 4.4, 5.2, 5.8, 7.6, and 12.5 kb bands. When the Southern bands were physically mapped along the genome, about 50-kb continuous region harboring almost all of the genomic region of Factor Ⅸ gene was covered. These results suggest a possibility of using an exonal cDNA probe to diagnose abnormalities including large deletions, insertions, and rearrangements along the genome, if there is any.

  • Heteromagnetic nanostructures, which consist of two or more different layers such as nonmagnet, insulator, ferromagnet, antiferromagnet, and superconductor, have been widely used in current and likely future spintronics devices. Their many intriguing magnetic properties are originated from a variety of magnetic interactions at relevant length scales at or near interfaces and between different constituent layers as well as laterally different regions in chemical and magnetic heterogeneity. The fundamental properties can thus differ along depth and laterally in the film plane, depending on their relevant coupling length scales. The entire properties may be characterized by interface properties and/or the depth-varying properties of the individual constituent layers, and lateral inhomogeneity as well. It is a challenge to investigate both depth-varying properties and lateral heterogeneity in such heteromagnetic nanostructures. In this talk, soft x-ray magneto-optical effect as a nanometer scale probe of a variety of heteromagnetic structures is presented and its related noble techniques are introduced. For instances, magnetization vector imaging to investigate vector spin configurations in the film plane is presented, as well as the Kerr rotation, ellipticity, and intensity measurements as a depth sensitive probe on the atomic scales.

  • Objectives This study was performed to compare the electrical methods of motor points mapping using surface EMG and electric probe (Pointer Excel II). Methods 32 healthy adults (male 16, female 16) were selected. and classified into two groups; surface EMG group, electric probe (Pointer Excel II) group. In surface EMG group, motor points were searched by recoding the compound muscle potentials. In electric probe (Pointer Excel II) group, motor points were searched by scanning the skin with Pointer Excel II at low level stimulation. The locations of the motor points were expressed as X and Y values in relation to the reference line. The horizontal reference line was set as elbow crease and the vertical reference line was set as the line connecting coracoid process to the center of the horizontal reference line. The data was analyzed by 'Independent T-test' and 'equivalence test'. Results 1. The motor points of short head and long head of biceps brachii muscle were located at about 2/3 length of the vertical reference line from coracoid process and about 1/5~1/4 length of the half of the horizontal reference line from the vertical reference line in both group. 2. The motor points of the short head were located more distally and close to the vertical reference line (p<0.001). 3. In surface EMG group, the motor points of the long head were located more laterally in the female than male. And the motor points of the long head were located more distally in the left side than right side (p<0.05). In electric probe (Pointer Excel II) group, similar tendency was observed but there was no statistically significant difference (p>0.05). 4. As a result of the equivalence test between surface EMG group and electric probe (Pointer Excel II) group, the confidence intervals of the difference were within the equivalence limit. Therefore, the locations of the motor points searched by two ways are equa l (p>0.05, equivalence interval=3%). Conclusions The results indicate that electric probe (Pointer Excel II) can be used to search the motor points instead of surface EMG. This might improve the clinical efficiency when using the motor points to treat muscle dysfunction.
