  • This paper describes the development of training simulator for Hadong fossil Power Plant. The simulator was developed to train operator, test new control Logic and evaluate alternative operating procedure for expert engineer of control system. The most control logics such as Siemens TELEPERM ME and GE Mark V are translated directly from microprocessors. Those HMI are also directly emulated. The simulation was performed by ProTRAX modeling software. The paper discusses the configuration of simulator and the simulation results of 30%, 50%, 75% and 100% normal rate load test.

  • In this paper, a 3-D computer-aided die design process was developed for automobile rear frame with drawing, trimming, flanging, cam-piercing and piercing for tool design. The tool design has been done using Pro/Engineer on a personal computer. It is composed of four stations. The goal of this research is to apply each of stations for the standard tool specification to each station.

  • The mitigation technique is to minimize influences to the environments, and it is one of the environmental management(or administration) to techniques. Its objective is to create sustainable environment by keeping human assistance to the environment as minimal as possible. It restores, creates, enhances, and most importantly preserves the environment by avoiding, minizing, rectifying, eliminating, and compensating the natural circumstances The evaluation of adverse effects to the environment and their reduction is as follow: HEP(Habitat Evaluation Procedure) WET(Wet land evaluation technique) HGM(Hydro Geomorphic Assessment) BEST(Biological Evaluation Standardized Technique) Since there are both pro and cons in the American and Japanese mitigation methods, it is hard to choose which one is better.

Approximate Shape Optimization Technique by Sequential Design Domain (순차설계영역을 이용한 근사 형상최적에 관한 연구)

  • Mechanical design process is generally accomplished by design, analysis, and test. Designers use programs fitting purpose, and obtain repeatedly a response of a simulation program, a sub-program for optimization. In this paper, shape optimization using approximate optimization technique is carried out with sequential design domain(SDD). In addition, algorithm executing Pro/Engineer and ANSYS automatically are adopted in the approximate optimization program by SDD. It is difficult for design problem to be approximated accurately for the whole range of design space. However, more or less accurate approximation is constructed if SDD is applied to that case. SDD starts with a certain range which is off-seted from midpoint of an initial design domain and then SDD of the next step is determined by a move limited. Convergence criterion is defined such that optimal point must be located within SDD during the two steps. Also, the PLBA(Pshenichny-Lim-Belegundu-Arora) algorithm is used to solve approximate optimization problems. This algorithm uses the second-order information and the active set strategy, in order to seek the direction of design variables.

  • This paper presents a study on the modeling for transparent toaster with a cap of folding type. The toaster was modelled to solve problems of customer's unsatisfaction such as heat loss, input of a piece of dirt, unidentified heating state of sliced toaster. Rapid prototyping was followed by the first modeling, and the second modeling was implemented in order to solve the problems of the first modeling such as interference of holder and door, and the third modeling was developed with a cap of folding type through analysis of assembly and simulation. The 3D modeling tool used in this paper was Pro/Engineer 4.0. The modeling was designed to minimize heat loss and structured with transparent outer case. So the toasting procedure will be identified with the naked eye, and the transparent toaster will improve the customer's aesthetic satisfaction.

Optimal Design of the Steel Wheel's Disc Hole Using Approximation Function (근사함수를 이용한 스틸휠의 디스크 홀의 최적화)

  • Wheel for passenger car support the car weight with tires, and they transmit rolling and braking power into the ground. Whittling away at wheel weight is more effective to boost fuel economy than lighting vehicle body structure. A shape of hole in disk is optimized for minimizing the weight of steel wheel. Pro/ENGINEER program is used for formulating the design model, and ANSYS package is selected for analyzing the design model. It has difficulties to interface these commercial software directly. For Combining both programs, response surface methodology is applied to construct approximation functions for maximum stresses and maximum displacements are obtained by full factorial design of five levels. This steel wheel is modeled in 14-inch diameter of rim, and wide parameter of hole in disk is only selected as design variable for reducing the weight of steel whee. PLBA(Pshenichny-Lim-Belegundu-Arora) algorithm, which used the second-order information in the direction finding problem and uses the active set strategy, is used for solving optimization problems.

  • Automotive engineers involved in a new car project use various CAD systems that are chosen based on work requirements. For example, engineers in Hyundai Motors are using Pro/Designer and Alias fur the style design, but they use CATIA to design parts and assemblies, ANSYS for FEM analysis, and Pro/Engineer to design engines. Because they use different CAD systems, they have difficulties in collaborative design. Data, which contains errors, is transferred between CAD systems. It is difficult to find out such errors in a large CAD model. An evaluation method for CAD models has been developed in this study. This diagnosis tool analyses a STEP or an IGES file generated from a CAD system, and produces a quantitative error report. The tool has been tested with actual data sets. This paper proposes an algorithm that produces mathematical error values of entities of IGES models that have geometrical data, and entities of STEP models that have topological data, and inspects every part off model. To develop this system, we have used the OpenCASCADE kernel, which is an open source kernel developed by Matra Datavision of France.

A Study on the Automatic Design Supporting for Automobile Bonnet Tools (자동차 보닛금형의 자동설계 지원시스템에 관한 연구)

  • In this study a 3-D automatic die design supporting system for a bonnet panel has been developed using Pro/ROGRAM of the widespread CAD software Pro/ENGINEER A standard drawing die was defined in terms of the punch profile, the die face geometry, and the blank sheet size. The strip layout of a trimming die was defined, in addition, in terms of the trimming line and the locations of scrap cutters. Necessary relations for each design step are formulated and rules for bottom-up type 3-D die design were set up for the automatic design of drawing and trimming dies of a bonnet. With the input geometric data of punch profile, die face, and blank sheet, this 3-D design supporting system could complete the basic design process, in case of the bonnet drawing die, in a time 78% shorter than that required by a typical 2-D CAD system. The new design system showed remarkable design efficiency also when it was applied to the case of redesign and modification of the previous standard output for a different car type.

  • A comprehensive extension of functions and efficiency of the software system, DS/Block, developed earlier for the purpose of simulation of the motion of a ship block during lifting and turnover operation. A viewpoint change used in 3D-CAD is utilized and saves the time for displays of a series of configurations for the motion. The Euler parameters are adopted to convert 3 rotational degrees of freedom about global coordinate system to those about local coordinate system defined in Pro/ENGINEER. DS/Block provides FEM input data for stress and strain analyses. Several functions are incorporated for user-friendliness. DS/Block is to be tested and installed in a shipyard.
