  • Recently, in Korea, private education is being dramatically developed, and the number of small- and medium-sized academies is increasing exponentially. Therefore, academies are building their own management system to realize efficient management appropriate for their situations. Also, the academy management system is more needed in mobile environment nowadays on account of severe competition among academies and necessity for differentiated instruction and systematic and efficient management. In this study, a mobile academy management prototype app has been developed in order to reduce small-and medium-sized academies' temporal and economic costs by supporting their students' attendance management and communication among parents, students, academies, and instructors in mobile environment.

  • Objectives: This study aimed 1) to investigate high school students' reliability on COVID-19 responses in schools and private academies and 2) to identify the differences in COVID-19 prevention practice. Methods: This cross-sectional survey collected data from 200 high school respondents, using an anonymous online questionnaire designed by the Yonsei Global Health Center, from July 2 to 17, 2020 in this study. Chi-square tests were conducted to analyze the differences in preventative practices and practice rates between schools and private academies. Binary logistics regression analysis was conducted to identify the factor affecting the reliability of COVID-19 response. Results: These high school students reliabilityed the schools' COVID-19 response more than the private academy. In addition, students who studied only at school did more COVID-19 prevention practices than students who studied both at school and academy. There was a significant difference in avoiding public transportation (p=.028), sitting in one row while having a meal (p=.011) in the practice rates depending on the schools' COVID-19 response. A significant difference in Covering the mouth when coughing and sneezing (p-.041) was also found in the practice rates depending on the private academies' COVID-19 response. Conclusion: The reason why schools were more reliable than private academies was that there are health teachers. Because schools are supervised by the ministry of education, the Ministry of education and local government need to work together to manage and monitor the COVID-19 response in the academies through cooperation between two organizations. In addition, it is necessary to arrange a temporary circulation health teacher who will provide the COVID-19 prevention education at the academies.

  • In the Republic of Korea, mathematics has always been a major blame for huge private expenditures on so-called "private education," which consists of private tutoring and lessons at "private academies of extra curricula." The private spending on out-of-school education often exceeded public expenditures on schools. In 1997, South Korean Ministry of Education reformed curriculum of mathematics along with other subjects to ease the burden of private education. The aim of this curriculum change was to put a boost on individual students' interests, affections and other attributes toward school mathematics. The essential distinctiveness of the new curriculum of mathematics compared with the previous one is as follows: 1. The implementation of so-called "differentiated curriculum" for grades 1-10. 2. 30% reduction of contents in mathematics and the reconciliation of contents. 3. Elective subjects for mathematics for grades 11 and 12. 4. More uses of technology in mathematics teaching. Firstly, we examine the background of the curriculum reform and analyze the new curriculum according to awareness of educational administrators, teaching environments of schools and readiness of mathematics teachers. Then we find out what kinds of problems it has and look for some suggestions for remedies.

  • Due to the rapid growth of domestic and overseas airline markets, the demand for airline pilots has also been growing fast. Meeting such a market needs, central government, Ministry of Land and Transportation has set up civil airline pilot training center at Ulgin airport to train and provide the market with commercial airline pilots. Not only central government but universities in Korea also have tried to train pilots by operating flight training academies. Even though there are more than a dozen of flight training centers including colleges and private academies, there have been less efforts to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the flight training school's curriculums compared to other scholar majors in a university. Therefore this paper tried to evaluate the educational effectiveness of the curriculums using the Kirk-Patrick measurement model, which has been regarded as one of the most popular and accurate measurement tool for an empirical research in social science. According to the empirical research, it was found out the inter-personal relationship between an instructor pilot and flight trainee was perceived as the most important factor to have an impact on learning abilities and student's behaviors.

  • Dosan Seowon, one of the earliest and most prestigious private Confucian academies in Korea, is an example of a heritage property citizens wish to sustain for the benefit of future generations. It is recognized of its contribution to the Korean society and as an architectural and historical interest. This study conducts architectural and cultural research about Dosan Seowon by scrutinizing its evidential, historical, aesthetic and spatial values. By doing so, it is possible to recognize how appreciated qualities are vulnerable to harm through only understanding their heritage values without practical management solutions. That understanding should then provide the basis for developing and implementing management strategies (including maintenance, cyclical renewal and repair) that will best sustain the heritage values in a physical aspect. The conclusion suggests that communication about Dosan Seowon among those who are concerened is significant.

  • School activities which are opened after-school or during a vacation have been social issues as our society is nuclearized and both parents are working, so that elementary school students and middle school students are less taken care of and less concerned by their parents. It is regrettable that students are spending too much time on private academies in the situation where they cannot help but staying alone after school and where frantic fever of private education pervades their lives. For the sake of those students, the Ministry of Education announced, "Each school can open its after-school programs or vacation programs based on students and their parents' demands making it a rule of a student's voluntary participation. After school programs for elementary and middle school students are operated by local communities providing extra courses or programs in addition to regular classes. Those programs are paid by participants or supported by financial aids in order to decrease parents' burdens of costs of private education and to reduce educational gaps between rich and poor children or between the regions. After school programs are either curricular or non-curricular educational activities with students' voluntary participation, and the programs are meant to supplement and strengthen the role of public school education. Non-curricular courses that consist of various programs, in particular, are receiving good reputations by students and parents. Therefore, this study develops and operates "children's making D.I.Y. furniture" program that is one of non-curricular courses and an activity-oriented art program for children to improve their designing creativity and to help them experience their future jobs in advance. The purpose of this study is to analyze advantages and disadvantages of the program using survey and assessment methods and to find out a developmental direction focused on future-oriented and specialized educational programs for children.

  • Originally confucianism is closer to communitarianism than to individualism. The ideal of confucianism is to realize ethical community. Chu Hsi's theory of the Song dynasty reestablishes the ideal of ethical community and dignitaries(士大夫) take the job to realize it as their own vocation. There are many developed 'family clans and kinsfolk societies', 'local covenants and sacred storehouses' and 'private academies' in the Chosun dynasty as in the Song dynasty. These communities are three kinds of axial confucian community, which are both natural ascriptive groups and voluntary contract groups in nature. Communities of Chosun dynasty are to strengthen the solidarity through friendship and mutual help as well as to cultivate good customs in society. Also these traditional communities are managed by democratic procedures, as these are originally voluntary contract groups. On the other hand, traditional neo-confucian self-training theories like that individual personality should be harmony with general order, or one should pursuit his private interest according to fair principles are the process of sublimation private individual into public citizen.

  • Many young people, who are most affected by TV audition programs and the K-pop craze, have begun to choose careers in music. They attended music classes through academies or took private lessons, and then went on to a college's practical-music department. As the number of applicants increased, competition for university practical-music programs increased abnormally. As a result, many students then started learning music at an early age through private educational institutions and academies. Afterwards, as high schools related to practical music began to appear, the number of students entering practical-music high school and technical schools increased. However, a big problem in practical-music high schools was difficulty in finding professional teachers who majored in music. This arose because it was difficult for someone with a practical-music major to acquire a full-time teaching certificate. There are many ways to obtain a teacher's license, but the only option for practical-music majors is to graduate from the Graduate School of Education. However, since the Graduate School of Education is limited to classical and traditional music, admission itself is difficult. Even if someone is accepted by the school, most of the courses consist of classical music and traditional music education, which is very difficult for someone who majored in practical music. Therefore, in this thesis, we study the current situation in practical-music high schools, looking at why a regular Level 2 teaching certificate is needed and how to obtain one.

The organizations include the history archives[史庫], the government offices[官廳], the private academies[書院] and the county public schools[鄕校]. The individuals include the royal family members and the members of the cabinet. In Joseon Dynasty, the books were distributed to the government offices, the members of the cabinet, and the people who participated in printing that book. Also after the official ceremonies, the books were given as the rewards. The purpose of this study is to examine the bibliographical features of the naesabones - especially awarded to the individuals - now in Kyujanggak.
