In this study, dynamic stability of discontinuous free Timoshenko beam, barring a concentrated mass, under constant follower force is considered. Governing differential equations are derived based on the extended Hamilton's principle and finite element method is applied for numerical analysis. Conclusions of the study are as follows : (1) Without force direction control, (i) the critical follower force at instability is increased with concentrated mass regardless of discontinuity. (ii) the minimum critical follower force is located in the vicinity of discontinuity position .xi.$_{d}$=0.75. (iii) at mass location .mu. .leq.0.5 the force at instability is decreased as magnitude of concentrated mass is increased but, at .mu. .geq. 0.5 the force is increased as the mass is increased. (2) With force direction control, (i) shear deformation parameter S contributes insignificantly to the force at instability when S>10$^{[-993]}$ (ii) maximum critical follower force can be obtained for the discontinuity location .xi.$_{d}$=0.25. (iii) the critical follower force is increased as magnitude of concentrated mass .alpha. is increased at mass location .mu. .geq.0.4, but is increased, .mu ..leq.0.4.4.

The principle of vortex tube and cyclone was introduced to enhance the treatment efficiency of waste air streams containing particulate matters, toluene, and others developed by Hangreen Tech, Ltd. and Hoseo Chemical and Industrial Technology R&D Center. Adsorption, condensation, and/or coagulation could be induced at low temperature zone formed by vortex tube and Joule-Thomson expansion. The pressurized air was introduced at the tangential direction into the cyclone system applied with the coaxial funnel tube. Easily condensible vapors such as toluene. carbon dioxide, and water vapor were adsorbed enforcedly on coagulated or condensed materials which were formed as cores for coagulation or condensation by themselves. These types of coagulation or condensation rates were rapidly promoted as the diameter being growing up. The maximum removal efficiency for carbon dioxide and toluene was achieved to about 87 and 90 percent, respectively. The Joule-Thomson coefficients were increased with the pressure of air injected in the range of the relative humidities between 10% and 30%. An optimum value was observed within the range of the tested temperatures at a fixed pressure. In conclusion. it could be identified that the treatment efficiency would be depended on the pressure of the process air introduced and physical and chemical characteristics of waste air streams containing target materials for a designed system. The final design parameters should be decided depending upon the given system and target materials.
The uncertainty in WindCube LIDAR measurements, which are specific to wind profiling at less than 200m above ground levelin wind resource assessments, was analyzed focusing on the error caused by its volume sampling principle. A two-month SODAR measurement campaign conducted in an urban environment was adopted as the reference wind profile assuming that various atmospheric boundary layer shapes had been captured. The measurement error of LIDAR at a height z was defined as the difference in the wind speeds between the SODAR reference data, which was assumed to be a virtually true value, and the numerically averaged wind speed for a sampling volume height interval of $z{\pm}12.5m$. The pattern of uncertainty in the measurement was found to have a maximum in the lower part of the atmospheric boundary layer and decreased with increasing height. It was also found that the relative standard deviations of the wind speed error ratios were 6.98, 2.70 and 1.12% at the heights of 50, 100 and 150m above ground level, respectively.

This paper presents the fibre-matrix interfacial properties of hooked end steel fibres embedded in ultra-high performance mortars with various water/binder (W/B) ratios. The principle objective was to improve bond behaviour in terms of bond strength by reducing the (W/B) ratio to a minimum. Results show that a decrease in W/B ratio has a significant effect on the bond-slip behaviour of both types of 3D fibres, especially when the W/B ratio was reduced from 0.25 to 0.15. Furthermore, the optimization in maximizing pullout load and total pullout work is found to be more prominent for the 3D fibres with a larger diameter than for fibres with a smaller diameter. On the contrary, increasing the embedded length of the 3D fibres did not result in an improvement on the maximum pullout load, but increase in the total pullout work.
As an effective means to convey crushed materials from seabed to onboard ship, air-lift pump provides a reliable mechanism due to its simple configuration and easy-to-operate principle. The present study is focused on fundamental investigation of related performance through analysis program based on the gas-liquid two-phase flow in circular pipes. It is summarized as important result that an optimum air mass flow rate exists for the maximum lifted liquid mass flow rate in terms of a given submergence rates.

This study proposes a new self-driven active clamp forward converter eliminating the extra drive circuit for the active clamp switch. The converter used the auxiliary winding of the power transformer to drive the active clamp switch and a simple R-C circuit to get the dead time between the two switches. The operation principle was presented and experimental results were used to verify theoretical predictions. A 100-W (5V/20A) prototype converter built that only exhibited 1.5-turn winding number in the auxiliary winding was sufficient to drive the active clamp switch on the input of 50V. Finally, the measured efficiency of the converter was presented and the maximum efficiency of 91% was obtained.
The present paper deals with the continuous works of extending the multi-dimensional limiting process (MLP) for compressible flows, which has been quite successful in finite volume methods, into discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods. From the series of the previous, it was observed that the MLP shows several superior characteristics, such as an efficient controlling of multi-dimensional oscillations and accurate capturing of both discontinuous and continuous flow features. Mathematically, fundamental mechanism of oscillation-control in multiple dimensions has been established by satisfaction of the maximum principle. The MLP limiting strategy is extended into DG framework, which takes advantage of higher-order reconstruction within compact stencil, to capture detailed flow structures very accurately. At the present, it is observed that the proposed approach yields outstanding performances in resolving non-compressive as well as compressive flaw features. In the presentation, further numerical analyses and results are going to be presented to validate that the newly developed DG-MLP methods provide quite desirable performances in controlling numerical oscillations as well as capturing key flow features.

The first part shows the optimal contact surface for T-shaped combined footings to obtain the most economical dimensioning on the soil (optimal area). This paper presents the second part of a new model for T-shaped combined footings, this part shows a the mathematical model for design of such foundations subject to axial load and moments in two directions to each column considering the soil real pressure acting on the contact surface of the footing with one or two property lines restricted, the pressure is presented in terms of an axial load, moment around the axis "X" and moment around the axis "Y" to each column, and the methodology is developed using the principle that the derived of the moment is the shear force. The classic model considers an axial load and a moment around the axis "X" (transverse axis) applied to each column, i.e., the resultant force from the applied loads is located on the axis "Y" (longitudinal axis), and its position must match with the geometric center of the footing, and when the axial load and moments in two directions are presented, the maximum pressure and uniform applied throughout the contact surface of the footing is considered the same. To illustrate the validity of the new model, a numerical example is presented to obtain the design for T-shaped combined footings subjected to an axial load and moments in two directions applied to each column. The mathematical approach suggested in this paper produces results that have a tangible accuracy for all problems.

Internal solitary waves between two-stratified fluid layers are examined. Hamilton's principle is used to derive a governing equation. The wave speed-wave height relation is obtained and this agrees well with the experiment. The wave profiles obtained also agree well with the experimental result. There exist minimum and maximum wave speeds depending on the depth ratio and the density ratio of two layers. The KdV equation overpredicts the wave speed for a given wave height and underpredict the wave height for a given wave speed.

Flow characteristics in transitional boundary layers on a flat plate were experimentally investigated under three different freestream conditions i. e. uniform flow with 0.1 % and 3.7% freestream turbulent intensity and cylinder-wake with 3.7% maximum turbulent intensity. Instantaneous streamwise velocities in laminar, transitional and turbulent boundary layers were measured by I-type hot-wire probe. For estimation of wall shear stresses on the flat plate, measured mean velocities near the wall were applied to the principle of Computational Preston Tube Method (CPM). Distributions of skin friction coefficients were reasonably predicted in all developed boundary layers. Intermittency profiles, which were estimated using Conditional Sampling Technique in transitional boundary layers, were also consistent with previously published data. It was predicted that the incoming turbulent intensity had more influence on transition onset point and transition process than freestream turbulent intensity existed just over the transition region. It was also confirmed that non-turbulent and turbulent profiles in transitional boundary layers could not be simply treated as Blasius and fully turbulent profiles.
