Body gesture Recognition has been one of the interested research field for Human-Robot Interaction(HRI). Most of the conventional body gesture recognition algorithms used Hidden Markov Model(HMM) for modeling gestures which have spatio-temporal variabilities. However, HMM-based algorithms have difficulties excluding meaningless gestures. Besides, it is necessary for conventional body gesture recognition algorithms to perform gesture segmentation first, then sends the extracted gesture to the HMM for gesture recognition. This separated system causes time delay between two continuing gestures to be recognized, and it makes the system inappropriate for continuous gesture recognition. To overcome these two limitations, this paper suggests primitive body model encoding, which performs spatio/temporal quantization of motions from human body model and encodes them into predefined primitive codes for each link of a body model, and Selective/Asynchronous Input-Parallel State machine(SAI-PSM) for multiple-simultaneous gesture recognition. The experimental results showed that the proposed gesture recognition system using primitive body model encoding and SAI-PSM can exclude meaningless gestures well from the continuous body model data, while performing multiple-simultaneous gesture recognition without losing recognition rates compared to the previous HMM-based work.
This paper proposes a new algorithm for recognizing polyhedral objects using a single 2-D image. It is base don a new representation scheme having two level hierarchey. In the lower level, geometrical features of each primitive surface are represented using their signatures and the variation of signature due to rotation is represented suing the rotation map. In the higher level, topological features are represented in the inter-surface description table(SDT). Based on the proposed representaton scheme, loer level database searched to find a matching primitive surface. The srotation map determines the degree of rotation as well as the matchness. If all surfaces in a test object find their matching primitive surfaces, its structural information is compared with the SDTs of object models. If primitive surfaces of a test object equal to tha tof certain model and satisfy inter-surfaces relationship in SDT, a test object is recognized as the model.
An oceanographic measurement by Senjyu and Watanabe (1999) shows that a sudden drop of temperature in the northern Japanese coastal regions occurs with the passing of Typhoon Oliwa, September in 1997. The temperature variation ranges 6 to 7$^{\circ}C$. A three-dimensional primitive model (Princeton Ocean Model) is implemented to examine how it happens. (omitted)
The first thing in designing application-specific instruction set processor is having instruction set closely matching hardware characteristics. This instruction set design problem can be more complicated when cobined with implementation method selection problem of each instruction. Our processor model supports two kinds of instructions-primitive or special instructions. Primitive instructions are implemented using common multifunctional hardware such as ALU. Special instructions require a set of dedicated hardware, which actually functions as a coprocessor to the main processor. In this case, special instructions and primitive instructions can be executed independently. In this paper, we present novel algorithm for genrating special instructions for given application. Parallelism between special instructions and primitive instructions is also considered during the performance estimation stage of generated special instructions.

A primitive conceptualization is defined as the set of all intended situations. A non-primitive conceptualization is defined as the set of all the pairs every of which consists of an intended knowledge system and the set of all the situations admitted by the knowledge system. The reality of a domain is considered as the set of all the situation which have ever taken place in the past, are taking place now and will take place in the future. A conceptualization is defined as precise if the set of intended situations is equal to the domain reality. The representation of various elements of a domain ontology in a model of the ontology is considered. These elements are terms for situation description and situations themselves, terms for knowledge description and knowledge systems themselves, mathematical terms and constructions, auxiliary terms and ontological agreements. It has been shown that any ontology representing a conceptualization has to be non-primitive if either (1) a conceptualization contains intended situations of different structures, or (2) a conceptualization contains concepts designated by terms for knowledge description, or (3) a conceptualization contains concept classes and determines properties of the concepts belonging to these classes, but the concepts themselves are introduced by domain knowledge, or (4) some restrictions on meanings of terms for situation description in a conceptualization depend on the meaning of terms for knowledge description.

In order for humans and robots to interact in daily life, robots need to understand human speech and link it to their actions. This paper proposes a hierarchical behavior model for robot action control using natural language commands. The model, which consists of episodes, primitive actions and atomic functions, uses a sentential cognitive system that includes multiple modules for perception, action, reasoning and memory. Human speech commands are translated to sentences with a natural language processor that are syntactically parsed. A semantic parsing procedure was applied to human speech by analyzing the verbs and phrases of the sentences and linking them to the cognitive information. The cognitive system performed according to the hierarchical behavior model, which consists of episodes, primitive actions and atomic functions, which are implemented in the system. In the experiments, a possible episode, "Water the pot," was tested and its feasibility was evaluated.

Primitive chain network model for block copolymers is used here to simulate molecular dynamics in the entangled state with acceptable computational cost. It was found that i) the hooking procedure rearranging the topology of the entangled network is critical for the equilibrium structure of the system, and ii) simulations accounting for the different chemistry, i.e., with a biased hooking probability based on interaction parameter ${\chi}$ for selection of the hooked partner, generates a reasonable phase diagram.
