  • This paper presents the experimental results to verify the environmental consciousness with economic balances due to cutting fluid behaviors and effectiveness in machining process. The cutting fluid improves the productivity through cooling, lubricating effects, however its environmental impact also increases according to the cutting fluid usage. The primary mechanism in this study is the spin-of motion of cutting fluids away from the rotating workpiece. In this study some machining parameters are adopted to analyze the productivity as well as environmental impact. This study provides the criteria for the resonable cutting fluid usage quantitatively to develop the environmentally conscious machining process.

  • Much of the dual labor markets literature is devoted to exploring the reasons as th why the markets are segmented along the lines where the observed wage differentials are not a result of underlying skill differentials . ; and why otherwise comparable workers different the duration of their job tenure and incidence of unemployment. the logic of competitive economics denies the possibility of equally skilled workers being treated differently in labor markets. The model presented in this paper shows that workers could be segregated quite simply due to the structure of information and job-match quality, even though they are the same in terms of productivity. In general, the model predicts that observability of a worker's productivity and the extent of match specificity are key features of labor market segmentation. An important implication is that the negative from the past labor market experienes, sometimes called as hysteresis effect, helps to restrict mobility of workers among different sectors and results in perpetuation of unemployment in the secondary sector. The model also provides an explanation of the efficient wage scheme in the primary sector.

  • Mutational experiments were performed to improved to improve the protease productivity of Aspergillus flavus KU 153, which is selected among the wild strains. A UV-induced mutant strain having high protease productivity was obtained by the use of the clear zone method as a simple criterion for a primary screening test. Neutral and alkaline protease activities of hte mutant strain were higher than 1.8 times, comopared with those of the parental strain, respectively, while in the case of acid protease, it was 2.7 times. The mutant strain selected was more powerful in the production of cellulase and amylase, as well s protease in wheat bran, compared with those of the parental strain. protease production of the parental strain has reached maximum level at 3 days culture, while alkaline nad neutral protease production of the mutantstrain has reached at 2 days culture. On the other hand, the mutant strain formed the spore slowly, compared with the parental strain. Column chromatography of the neutral protease on DEAE-Sephadex A-50 showed that the mutant strain was not induced the formation of another neutral protease isozyme, but induced the variation in the function of regulatory gene.

  • In southwestern East Sea, we investigated the spatio-temporal distribution characteristics of particulate organic carbon (POC) and nitrogen (PON) in September 2011 (summer), January (winter) and May 2012 (spring). Although cold waters known as the origin upwelling in the surface layer of September were not observed, this periods showed high primary productivity because of high concentrations of chlorophyll, low percentage of non-autotrophic particulate fraction among POC calculated by POC/Chl-a ratio (27%) and low POC/PON ratio (6.2), which means active amino acid and protein synthesis, However, May, 2012 showed low primary productivity because of high percentage of non-autotrophic particulate fractions among POC (66%) and high POC/PON ratio (8.1), Although spring bloom and high primary productivity has been reported in the East Sea, high percentage of non-autotrophic particulate fractions in POC, observed in the East sea during the post 2012 spring, is suggested to be due to the increase of phaeo-pigment during post spring bloom. Thus, composition of particulate organic matter may have sensitively changed by marine environmental factors in spite of same season.

  • The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) regularly provides the eight-day gross primary productivity (GPP) at 1 km resolution. In this study, we evaluated the uncertainties of MODIS GPP caused by errors associated with the Data Assimilation Office (DAO) meteorology and a biophysical variable (fraction of absorbed photosynthetically active radiation, FPAR). In order to recalculate the improved GPP estimate, we employed ground weather station data and reconstructed cloud-free FPAR. The official MODIS GPP was evaluated as +17% higher than the improved GPP. The error associated with DAO meteorology was identified as the primary and the error from the cloud-contaminated FPAR as the secondary constituent in the integrative uncertainty. Among various biome types, the highest relative error of the official MODIS GPP to the improved GPP was found in the mixed forest biome with RE of 20% and the smallest errors were shown in crop land cover at 11%. Our results indicated that the uncertainty embedded in the official MODIS GPP product was considerable, indicating that the MODIS GPP needs to be reconstructed with the improved input data of daily surface meteorology and cloud-free FPAR in order to accurately monitor vegetation productivity in Korea.

  • The objective of this study was to determine the effects of N:P ratio on primary productivity measured as chlorophyll-a (CHL) using the approach of In Situ Nutrient Enrichment Bioassays (NEBs) in Daechung Reservoir. The effects of NEBs on the N:P mass ratios were compared with the field data obtained from monthly-chemical monitoring during 2009~2012. The short-term NEBs showed that the response of primary productivity in the phosphorus spiked treatments (5, 15, 20 and 30 N:P ratios) were greater than the responses in the control (C) and nitrogen spiked treatment (N:P ratio=150, $T_{VI}$). The response in the nitrogen treatment (N:P ratio=150, $T_{VI}$) was less compared to control and all five treatments ($T_I{\sim}T_{VI}$). The outcomes of the NEBs suggest that phosphorus limited the phytoplankton growth and nitrogen addition inhibited the algal growth. In the analysis of nutrients and CHL from the ambient epilimnetic water in Daechung Reservoir, minimum N:P ratios resulted in maximum concentrations of CHL. Overall, our results suggest that the N:P ratio was the key factor in regulating the phytoplankton growth in NEB experiments.

  • To clarify the phytoplankton blooms in Lake Shihwa after the construction of a dyke, a study on the environmental factors, the distribution of chlorophyll-a, phytoplankton standing stocks, dominant species and primary productivity was carried out in Lake Shihwa and adjacent coastal areas from October, 1995 to August, 1996. Lake Shihwa is brackish water with mixing of freshwater from tributaries and the remaining salt water at the bottom. The dense phytoplankton bloom of average value of 168.6 ${\mu}gChl-a\;l^{-1}$ have occurred throughout the year in Lake Shihwa which is eutrophicated by the large input of nutrients from inflowing 5 tributaries and Shihwa Industrial Complex. The major organisms of algal bloom in Lake Shihwa were diatoms, Cyclotella atomus, Nitzschia sp. and Chaetoceros sp. in autumn and winter, and dinoflagellate Prorocentrum minimum and Chrysophyceae in spring and summer. The autumn and winter diatom blooms were limited by the depletion of silicate in the lake. Diatom blooms have occurred in the coastal areas adjacent to Shihwa lake from winter to summer due to the inflow of nutrient rich-water from Lake Shihwa. The primary productivities in the Lake Shihwa ranged from 2,653 mgC $m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$ to 9,505 mgC $m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$ with an average of 3,972 mgC $m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$. However, most of the high primary production was limited to the shallow euphotic zone due to the inhibition of light penetration. The primary productivities during autumn and winter were limited by the depletion of silicate. Lack of photosynthesis and the decomposition of falling organic matter under the middle of water column accelerated the depletion of dissolved oxygen in the bottom layer.

  • The seasonal variations of primary production were investigated by phyto-PAM chlorophyll fluorometry as well as classical methods (standing crops of phytoplanktons and chlorophyll ${\alpha}$) in the Beopsu Marsh, Haman-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do. The amounts of turbidity, SS, T-N, T-P, BOD, COD, Ca$^{2+}$ and Cl$^-$ were the highest at the station 3, where located in flowout site of wastewater treated by the filtration plants. The water quality was the third level by the standard of BOD and COD. The amount of chlorophyll a (268.8 mg L$^{-1}$) was the highest at the station 2 in April because the cell density (2,677 cells mL$^{-1}$) of Micractinium pusillum increased suddenly from February (180 cells mL$^{-1}$). The patterns of primary production of phytoplankton by phyto-PAM chlorophyll fluorometry were fallen in with those of standing crops and chlorophyll a of phyto-planktons. The primary production was varied according to stations and seasons. The water environments of the Beopsu Marsh as a natural mounument should be under the control of a regular examination in order to preserve the ecosystem.

  • Rice yield and primary productivity (NPP) are dependent upon the variability of climate and soil. The variability and regionality of the rice yield and net primary productivity were evaluated with the meteorological data collected from Korea Meteorology Administration and the actual rice yield data from the Ministration of Agriculture and Forestry, Korea. The estimated NPP using the three models, dependent upon temperature(NPP-T), precipitation(NPP-P) and net radiation(NPP-R), ranged from 10.87 to 17.52 Mg ha$^{-1}$ with average of 14.69 Mg ha$^{-1}$ in the South Korea and was ranged 6.47 to 15.58 Mg ha$^{-1}$ with average of 12.59 Mg ha$^{-1}$ in the North Korea. The primary limiting factor of NPP in Korea was net radiation, and the secondary limiting factor was temperature. Spectral analysis on the long term change in air temperature in July and August showed periodicity. The short periodicity was 3 to 7 years and the long periodicity was 15 to 43 years. The coefficient of variances, CV, of the rice yield from 1989 to 1998 ranged 3.23 percents to 12.37 percents which were lower than past decades. The CV's in Kangwon and Kyeongbuk were high while that in Chonbuk was the lowest. The prediction model based on th e yield index and yield response to temperature obtain ed from the field crop situation showed reasonable results and thus the spatial distributions of rice yield and predicted yield could be expressed in the maps. The predicted yields was well fitted with the actual yield except Kyungbuk. For better prediction, modification should be made considering radiation factor in further development.

  • Because the high latitude region in the North Pacific is characterized by high primary production in the surface water enriched with nutrients, it is important to understand the variation of surface water productivity and associated nutrient variability in terms of global carbon cycle. Surface water productivity change or its related nutrient utilization rate during the Northern Hemisphere Glaciation (NHG; ca. 2.73 Ma) has been reported, but little is known about such circumstances under gradual climate cooling since the NHG. Bulk nitrogen isotope (${\delta}^{15}N_{bulk}$) of sedimentary organic matter has been used for the reconstruction of nutrient utilization rate in the surface water. However, sedimentary organic matter experiences diagenesis incessantly during sinking through the water column and after burial within the sediments. Thus, in this study we examine the degree of nitrate utilization rate during the early Pleistocene (2.4-1.25 Ma) since the NHG, using the diatom-bound nitrogen isotope (${\delta}^{15}N_{db}$), which is known to be little influenced by diagenesis, from Site U1343 in the Bering slope area. ${\delta}^{15}N_{db}$ values range from ~0.5 to 5.5‰, which is lower than ${\delta}^{15}N_{bulk}$ values, but they vary with larger amplitude. Variation patterns between ${\delta}^{15}N_{db}$ values and biogenic opal concentration are generally consistent, which indicates that the nitrate utilization rate is closely related to opal productivity change in the surface water. A positive correlation between opal productivity and nitrate utilization rate was observed, which is different from the other high latitude regions in the North Pacific. The main reason for this contrasting relationship is that the primary production in the surface water at Site U1343 is influenced mostly by the degree of sea ice formation. Still, although concerns about diagenetic alteration have been avoided by using ${\delta}^{15}N_{db}$, the effects of the preservation state of biogenic opal and the species-dependent isotopic fractionation on ${\delta}^{15}N_{db}$ should be assessed in the future studies.
