Molar-incisor malformation (MIM) is a recently described dental anomaly characterized by root malformation in permanent first molars accompanied sometimes by abnormal root forms in primary second molars or enamel defects in maxillary central incisors. This report presents three cases of MIM along with a review of previous studies. Three patients exhibited abnormal root forms in the permanent first molars, with varying degrees of deformation. Two of the patients experienced medical events at birth. One of the patients was a monozygotic twin, whose twin sister exhibited normal dentition without any significant abnormalities. The present report also reviews recently reported cases of MIM in literature. In the management of MIM-associated clinical issues, consideration of microscopic features and accompanying characteristics might facilitate early diagnosis and comprehensive treatment planning.

The term 'impaction' is used to designate a tooth which remains unerupted in the jaw beyond the time at which it should normally be erupted. The main causal factors are local (lack of space, ectopic positions of teeth, supernumerary teeth, cyst, the occurrence of infectious process in the eruption path, traumatic facial injury etc.). Systemic and genetic disorders, however, may have primary failure of eruption and retarded eruption as additional symptoms (cleidocranial dysplasia, osteopetrosis etc.). Most cases of impacted teeth reported in the literature are of permanent teeth. The absence of primary teeth occur rarely whereas impaction of second primary molars is more numerous than all other impactions. Impaction due to primary failure of eruption must be distinguished from the secondary infraocclusion. The etiology of impaction of primary teeth is probably related to early ankylosis of primary teeth, but it is not clear. Failure of eruption of primary teeth may cause a number of complications, such as interference with development and eruption of succedaneous teeth, formation of cyst, and damage to adjacent teeth. This study is to report cases of primary failure of eruption in the primary dentition.

To study the caries patterns in primary dentition, 719 preschool children, 4-6 years old, were examined for their caries activity(salivary reductase activity) and caries experience of individual teeth. Teeth groups were made by cluster analysis using dft indexes of individual teeth as criteria. The six major teeth groups in the order of dft index from high to low were (1) lower primary molars, (2) upper primary molars, (3) upper central incisor, (4) upper lateral incisor, (5) canines, and (6) lower incisors. There were significant differences in dft index between teeth groups except upper lateral incisor and canines. Upper and lower primary molars showed the highest correlation in dft index, and the next couples were upper central incisors and upper lateral incisors, upper lateral incisor and canines, upper central incisor and canines, upper lateral incisor and upper primary molars, and canines and upper primary molars in descending order. Upper first primary molar showed the greatest differences in dft index between caries activity levels.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the dental caries prevalence and occlusion pattern of children with deciduous dentition in Chonnam seashore area. Two thousand two hundred seventy two kindergarten children ranged 3 to 5 years of age were examined. The obtained results were as follows : 1. The rate of children with caries experience(dmf rate) in deciduous teeth was 66.8% at 3 years of age, 77.7% at 4 years of age, and 83.5% at 5 years of age and showed no significant gender differences(p>0.05). 2. The mean number of decayed, missing, filled deciduous teeth(dmft index) was 3.62 at 3 years of age, 4.73 at 4 years of age, and 5.96 at 5 years of age and showed no significant gender differences(p>0.05). 3. Most of the caries-prevailed tooth was mandibular 2nd primary molar and showed 39.48% at 3 years of age, 49.73% at 4 years of age, and 63.85% at 5 years of age. 4. The caries-experienced teeth in order were as follows : mandibular 2nd primary molar with 52.34%, mandibular 1st primary molar with 45.61%, maxillary 2nd primary molar with 38.81%, and maxillary primary central incisor with 38.86%, respectively. 5. In sagittal primary molar relationship, Class 1 occlusion pattern was 53.26%, Class 2 pattern was 1.41% and Class 3 pattern was 30.02%, respectively. Right Class 2 and Left Class 3 pattern was not observed.

An infraoccluded tooth is a tooth that has failed to erupt to be in line with adjacent teeth in the vertical plane of occlusion. Multiple complications can occur as a result of an infraoccluded tooth. Tipping of neighboring teeth, loss of space opposing teeth elongation, increased susceptibility to dental caries and abnormal eruption path, impaction and rotation of permanent successor are the consequences of infraocclusion of primary molar. Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment is the key to prevent the complications. Treatment options can be periodic follow-up, temporary restoration or extraction of the infraoccluded tooth depending on the presence of the successor, the extent of infraocclusion and the extent of tilting of the neighboring teeth. The infraoccluded primary molars with permanent successors present tend to exfoliate normally. However, failure to do periodic check up of the infraoccluded teeth may lead to serious complications. In these cases, surgical extractions are often necessary after space regaining and space maintainers should be placed until the eruption of the permanent successors are completed.
Primary intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma (PIOSCC) is a rare carcinoma, which arises within the jaws without connection to the oral mucosa and presumably develops from a remnant of odontogenic epithelium. We present a case of solid type PIOSCC in a 52-year-old male patient complaining of dull pain on his left lower molar. In this case, early stage PIOSCC mimicking a periapical lesion might lead to a one-year delay in treatment due to the misdiagnosis of osteomyelitis after extraction of the third molar. The clinical, radiological, and histologic features are described. In this case, there was initial radiographic evidence for PIOSCC mimicking a periapical lesion. Incautious radiographic interpretation and treatment procedures had delayed the correct diagnosis and resulted in extensive bony destruction during the patient's disease progression.

The purpose of this study was to statistically evaluate the spacing of primary dentition according to whether or not a space existed and measurement of amount of space in 205 children (male 114, female 91) from 2 to 6 years of age. The results were as follows; 1. In the incidence of interdental space on each region, spacing between the primary lateral incisors and primary canine in maxilla and between the primary canine and 1st primary molar in mandible showed the highest percentage, on the other hand, spacing between the 1st and 2nd primary molars in both jaw showed the lowest percentage. 2. In the kinds of interdental space, the state of primate space and other space together showed the highest percentage, and in the degree of spacing, $S_2$ showed the highest percentage in both jaw. 3. In the incidence of primate space, maxillary primate space showed higher percentage than mandibular primate space in bilateral case. 4. In the type of arch form, spaced arch showed higher percentage than closed arch and about the half of closed arch showed crowding. 5. In both Jaw, available space showed incisor segments, canine segments, and premolar segments in order of amount, and there were not statistically significant differences of sex or jaws in the amount of available space.

In Class I cavity, the highest C-factor could be obtained and it means the highest polymerization shrinkage stress. In this study, high C-factor model was designed. The pulpose of present study was to determine differences of Microtensile bond strength (MTBS) of class I cavity pulpal and axial wall specimens in primary molar. Twenty clean mandibular 2nd primary molars were randomly divided into two groups Different composite Resins (Filtek Z250, 3M ESPE & Filtek Supreme, 3M ESPE) were bulk filled and photo cured. Axial wall specimens and pulpal specimens were prepared at the same teeth, All specimens were divided into 4 groups and MTBS were evaluated. Group ZP : Filtek Z250-Pulpal wall Group ZA : Filtek Z250-Axial wall Group SP : Filtek Supreme - Pulpal wall Group SA : Filtek Supreme - Axial wall The results were as follows: 1. Mean MTBS of ZP & ZA and SP & SA were significantly different(p<.001). 2. There was no significant difference between MTBS of ZP & SP and ZA & SA.

Although the stainless steel crowns have been recognized as the most effective and durable form of restoration for primary molars, they have been regarded by many dentists as having definite demerits such as invasive nature of procedural complexity and behavioral aspects of children. As an alternative to conventional technique of stainless steel crown restoration, the Hall technique was first introduced in 1988, which is characterized by just pushing the pre-contoured, cement filled crown form onto the abutment molar with no local anesthesia, no caries removal, no tooth preparation. According to several reports, this can slow, arrest, or even reverse the progress of caries. In addition, its atraumatic feature gives less discomfort and stress to children than conventional one, which is thought excellent especially in younger children. Also, It has been reported to be effective and acceptable to dentist, child patients and their parents. In this case study, three children with age of 4 years 5 months, 4 years 10 months, 6 years 4 months were treated with stainless steel crowns using Hall technique on first primary molar respectively. The teeth were free from pulpal, periapical pathology. After follow up of about 3 to 6 months period, the results showed clinically successful outcomes without any marked complication in pulp, tooth or soft tissue till now. But, it should be kept in mind that this technique is not proper to every child, every carious molar, or every dentist. Thorough distinction of indicated cases and continuous follow-up check is highly required. Conclusively, Hall technique might be an effective and realistic minimally invasive alternative for the carious primary molars especially in younger or disabled children, despite potential doubts on its efficacy and some definite limitations.

The primary maxillary second molars usually have three roots. However, an additional root located mesiopalatally is occasionally observed. This study aimed to determine the relationship between a mesiopalatal root of primary maxillary second molars and an abnormal eruption pattern of maxillary second premolars. The study was performed on cone beam computed tomography images taken from 916 children who visited the Dental Hospital of Kyung Hee University from 2010 to 2018. 744 serial cross-sectional cone beam computed tomography images were evaluated. The overall incidence of the mesiopalatal root of primary maxillary second molars was 3.2% (n = 24) and the abnormal eruption pattern of maxillary second premolars was 19.2% (n = 143). Especially, patients with the mesiopalatal root of primary maxillary second molars were significantly more likely to have the abnormal eruption pattern on maxillary second premolars (p = 0.000). The odds of the abnormal eruption pattern of maxillary second premolars with the mesiopalatal root of primary maxillary second molars was about 13 times higher than those without. The eruption pattern of the permanent successor should be carefully observed and treated if the mesiopalatal root of primary maxillary second molar is existent.
