  • The Hong Kong mathematics curriculum has launched its reform in recent years. It was the first time that a holistic review of syllabi from Primary 1 through Secondary 7 was made. The curriculum development agency also decided to base the reform on sound pedagogical foundations. That was assisted with academic research where the views of various stakeholders were investigated in detail. Surveys were conducted with students, parents, teachers, employers, university professors, and curriculum designers and they give a full picture of mathematics teaching and learning in Hong Kong. The rich data collected should shed light on the development of mathematics curriculum in other regions with similar socio-cultural and educational settings.

  • The purpose of this study was the identifying differences between physicists' expectations and teachers' representations about the primary physics concepts in elementary schools. For this, the material subjects analyzed were the 7th curriculum, the textbooks of elementary school and the texts using at the department of physics in many universities. The primary physics concepts extracted from the texts were to be fundamental and basic. Also, they were restricted to the domain of dynamics. And besides, the human subjects were physicists, professors and students majoring physics of the graduate school, researchers of institutes or laboratories and elementary school teachers. At the result of this study showed the scholars and teachers have the different opinions.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the teachers' perception of the 7th curriculum implementation. The subjects were 540 elementary school teachers. Investigation was conducted with questionaires which have 40 questions in 4 domains about the 7th curriculum. The results of the study were as follows: First, teachers' perception level of curriculum implementation was mechanical use(level 3). Second, in the comparison of level by implementing domains, the domains of the essential, ideology, educational objectives and evaluation were lower than the domains of educational contents, teaching methods and materials. Third, in the comparison of teachers' personal characterristics, there was no difference between male and female in all domains. But, by teaching career, experienced teachers were higher level in all domains. Also by length of in-service training with the 7th curriculum, when they have longer in-service training, they showed a higher level of curriculum implementation.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and implement an alternative elementary mathematics curriculum to enhance creative problem solving ability. The curriculum consisting of three main elements was developed. The three elements are content knowledge, process knowledge and creative thinking skills. The curriculum contents and the units were developed by mathematics educators, elementary educators, psychologists, elementary school teachers and curriculum specialists for 3 years. In order to test the effectiveness of the developed curriculum, the 5 units based on a problem-based-learning (PBL) method were implemented in a 5th grade class as an experimental group during the second semester. For the comparison group the ordinary lesson based on the 6th national mathematics curriculum was implemented during the same period. Performance assessment was developed and used for the pre and post test. T-est was use to testify that the effect of the curriculum is statistically signigicant. The results of the test showed that the experimental group progressed significantly in the creative problem solving ability, but the comparison group did not.

  • In this study, we analyzed he computer operating system curriculum in primary and middle schools and suggested the content framework for them through review of previous research. After surveying primary and middle school teachers, we developed the framework based on the spiral curriculum. Through these surveys, we were able to determine when and how students should be introduced to the as curriculum. The content framework focuses on two areas: understanding and practicing computer OS. Each area has 4 levels which are based on the students' grade. We suggested developing textbooks and materials about computer OS; establishing Information Science as a part of the primary school curriculum: and offering lectures about computer OS to student teachers at the National Universities of Education.

  • National university of education here in Korea have had a special purpose training competent primary school teacher hoping our nation and society so far. We can guess how students are educated and which direction focuses on education in college or university if we see the curriculum of the university. But the content of mathematics curriculum which is currently operated in ten university of education is a little different according to the major subject (pure mathematics, subject matters and so on)of the faculty or situation of the university. The purpose of this study is to get some suggestive points for the development of mathematics program and lecture assessment system which are appropriate training primary school teacher of future oriented as a special purpose university with looking around of lecture assessment system as well as comparing and looking around of the curriculum which are establishing at the auckland college of education there in the New Zealand and mathematics education department here in Daegu national university of education.

  • The primary school age are important period that the children exchange the deciduous teeth for permanent teeth, there are so many outbreak of dental caries which is major oral diseases periodontal disease begins, and malocclusion may be brought about. The purpose of this study is to suggest the fundamental data for enforcement of dental health in primary school age as analyzing the curriculum contents and amount on dental health in primary school course. The data were investigated from 103 volumes of 139 textbooks of second semester in 1992 and first semester i 1993 except some subjects that the quantitative analysis is impossible such as arithmetic a problem in arithmetic, observation, music, fine arts and so on. The contents of all textbooks were analyzed separating into paragraph and picture, the contents for dental health were classified into amount, item, teaching method. The results are as follows: 1) The paragraphs on public health were 3.992 among total paragraphs 69,789 as 5.72%. And the picture were 7.41% as 923 pieces of total 12,457 ones. 2) For dental health, there were 73 paragraphs of 69.789 ones (0.10%) and 42 pieces of 12.457 pictures (0.34%). 3) According to the investigation of curriculum that had the paragraphs related to dental health the most, it turned out to be in order of physical education nature. Right life story, and right life story, righ life, physical education for the picture. And for the grade, it appeared to be in order of sixth, third first grade for the paragraphs and first, third, sixth grade for the pictures. 4) In the attitude and knowledge of item for dental health by grade, it turned out that the paragraph was 76.71%, the behaviour was 23.29%. On the other hand, the knowledge was 35.17% and the attitude was 64.28% for the picture. 5) At the commentary of curriculum in primary school, the goal of health education by each grade was just keep clean and strong teeth, know the role of teeth and the cause of dacayed teeth, and prevent it in second and third grade.

  • Our mathematical curriculum has been revised frequently compared to another countries. The frequent revisions may mean that the current curriculum is not so complete in the selected contents of each grade levels. The idea is partially supported by the fact that the didactics of mathematics has both hypothesis-deductive and hypothesis-constructive property. Investigating the items which are used in TIMSS study and based on the relatively common curriculums of 40 more countries, the styles of them are a bit different from those of our textbooks of primary and secondary school. Hence, we consider that the construction and implementation of our mathematical curriculum may be a large scale of experiment for the improved curriculum carried by the nation. Additionally, we propose less compulsive curriculum than the current for minimizing the possible trial and errors.

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the recognition of the curriculum experts on 2015 integrated liberal arts and natural sciences curriculum revision. Research method is a delphi survey and the subjects are curriculum experts. The research results are as follows. Firstly, experts suggested common education for all students and students' opportunities to choose subjects. Secondly, the direction of curriculum revision was different by school level. The elementary school needs to foster convergence thinking. The middle school needs to educate common basic literacy education and the high school needs both the common education and the free choice of subjects by students. Thirdly, the separation of the liberal arts and natural sciences was caused by the separate thinking of custom, tradition and study and the separate exam application on liberal arts and natural science of college scholastic ability test. The solution about separation problem of liberal arts and natural sciences have been proposed to improve mathematics education and teachers' convergence education competency. Lastly, for the establishment of an 2015, integrated curriculum the reduction of the CSAT test area and the introduction of qualifying examination for English were required.
