  • In recent large power plants, the excitation system has the static type, which is characterized by the fast response to increase the transient stability. The high capacity excitation systems developed in KEPRI is either a hot back-up, hybrid hot back-up (analog + digital) or triple modular redundant digital type, both well proven by actual tests and applied in commercial operation. The large excitation systems have been developed taking into consideration the parameters of large scale power plants, resulting in high costs and subsequently are supplied at higher prices. When used at small sized power plants, the cost impact is relatively high. As a countermeasure to such a situation, KEPRI has recently developed a reliable, miniature digital excitation system, which is one-board type, convenient and adequate for low-price, small-sized (0.5MW∼200MW) power plants.

  • This paper presents a control bandwidth extension method for inverters with a low carrier ratio. The bandwidth is extended at the price of decreasing the phase margin. Then the phase margin is compensated by introducing an extra leading angle into an inverse Park transformation. The model of the controller with the proposed method is established. The magnitude and phase characteristics are also analyzed. Then the influence on system stability when the leading angle is introduced is analyzed. The proposed method is applied to design an inverter controller with both a large bandwidth and a desired phase margin, and the experimental results verify that the controller performs well in the steady-state and in terms of transient response.

  • Construction cost index (CCI) has been published for last 10 years, it's contributed to update the historical cost data, analysis cost fluctuation and evaluate the market price for construction works with direct or indirect manner. CCI is a secondary or processed statistics using the basic statistics of input output table (IO table) and producer price index (PPI) from the Bank of Korea (BOK). So once the basic statistics change, it is required to modify the calculating model of CCI. Recently the BOK changed some fundamental principles and the base year (from 2005 to 2010), that can be used in IO table and PPI. This research analyzed the recent revision of basic statistics and their impacts on CCI, and improved the previous CCI model in response to it. Also the validity of new CCI was verified by analyzing the items and weights utilized in CCI and comparing the related index.

  • The purposes of this study were: 1) to investigate the operational and financial characteristics of contract-managed high school food services in Seoul, 2) to analyze the financial performance of high school food services 3) to develop guidelines for meal pricing and facilities investment costs. From Oct to Nov 2001, questionnaires were mailed to 249 high schools that were managed by contract food service companies. A 40.2% response rate was recorded. The results of this study were as follows: 1. Student enrollment in high schools run by contract-managed food services was 1,518, with a 68.5% participation rate in the school lunch program. The average meal price was 2,141 won. 2. Based on the income statement analysis, average total sales were 410,440,504 won and average net profit was 16,098,558 won. 3. The optimum food cost per meal was 1,200-1,300 won per meal, calculating using the methods of conversion factor, RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance), and nutrient exchange unit. 4. Guidelines for meal pricing were developed using the modified actual pricing method based on facilities investment cost, number of meals and food cost. The ratio of labor cost, general management expenses and ordinary profit were adopted from the schools with liability. The food cost, depreciation and interest cost were calculated based on unit meal. 5. The guideline for facilities investment was developed based on the number of meals, meal price and food cost. The guideline included the maximum facilities investment cost paid by the contract food service management company. (Korean J Nutrition 36(5): 528∼535, 2003)

  • This paper investigates changes in the extent of exchange rate pass-through to export price in Korea. First, empirical results show that export prices have become less responsive to the exchange rate since the financial crisis in 1997. The decline of exchange rate pass-through to export prices suggests that Korean exporters are more likely to use profit margins to absorb part of the impact of exchange rate changes, consistent with pricing to market phenomenon. Second, this paper finds asymmetries in the response of export prices to exchange rate changes. In the post-crisis period. appreciations are more likely to be offset by markup adjustment than depreciations. Third, this paper documents that a significant portion of the decline of exchange rate pass-through is a result of both increased volatility of exchange rate and increased competition with China in the world market.

  • The objective of this research is to provide an understanding of how coffee production has been taking place since the coffee industry in Vietnam came out in the global market after Doi Moi. Current research tries to understand how the local households of coffee production adjusts to their production process according to internal and external influences. In order to explore coffee production in the level of local and household units, the structure of coffee production in Dak Lak is first explored in terms of production and sales with the cases from two communes. The examination reveals that general characteristics of coffee crops that would reflect coffee production structure. Further, this study interrogates farmers' response to reflect some direct and indirect influences in recent years. That shows how the elements of coffee production in global market induce a change of coffee production in the study area. Those aspects are analyzed in relation to yearly coffee price fluctuation and diversification. Also, this research explores some of farmers' responses toward the environmental friendly coffee production.

  • Market segmentation helps providers to find better marketing opportunities and allows foodservice managers to develop the right product for each target market. Therefore, this study, taking university faculty and staff as subject, is intended to diagnose the relative value of service quality attribute, on the basis service quality scenario of faculty foodservice; to suggest price for improving customer loyalty in market segments. A questionnaire was developed ar d mailed to 600 Yonsei university faculty and staffs. A total of 385 questionnaires were usable; resulting in a 58.7% of faculty and a 69.7% of staff response rate, respectively. Statistical data analysis was completed using the SAS/Win 6.12 for descriptive Analysis, ANOVA, principal factor analysis, cluster analysis, reliability test and discriminant analysis. The results of the study are as below. Eighteen questions were selected for measuring respondents' lifestyle by AIO method and the seven lifestyle factors derived from factor analysis and aggregated distinct 4 clusters. Service quality attributes of the scenario were determined with 'food quality', 'menu variety', 'atmosphere', 'fast service', and 'clean and sanitation'. 'Food quality', 'menu variety', 'atmosphere', 'fast service', and 'clean and sanitation', in decreasing order, were identified as improving customer loyalty. However, most faculty and staffs were satisfied with the present meal price. The result of this study indicates that the relative value of service quality was differed significantly among the various market segments. 'Food quality', 'menu variety', and 'atmosphere' were determined as major service quality attributes. Thus, customer loyalty could be increased by improving food taste and quality, atmosphere, and service delivery. (Korean J Community Nutrition 8(4) : 556 ∼565, 2003)

  • This study investigates the effects of real exchange rate (RER) on firm level mark-up and export. Using firm level data in Daegu-Gyeongbuk manufacturing industries during 2006-2013, we find that firms adjust their markup in response to the RER changes and this adjustment is heterogeneous with respect to firm and industry characteristics. In particular, an increase in markup following the RER depreciation is greater for firms with lower intermediate input import and higher industry concentration. However, productive firms in this region increase their export, instead of markup, during the RER depreciation. This implies that the productive firms in the region may not retain significant market power: They do not change the final price in local currency to increase selling volume during the RER depreciation (the export price in foreign currency decreases).
