Since the structural system of a prestressed concrete bridge erected by Incremental Launching Method is varying continuosly during construction, the main girder bears alternating stress resultants different from those under a service load condition. The magnitude of these stress resultants depends on span lengths, nose length and stiffness ratios between girder and nose. A parametric study is performed for various span lengths, nose lengths and stiffness ratios. In order to analyze structural systems varying at every launching step two programs are developed; a pre-processor which automatically produces a data file for each stage and a main-processor which can summarize the results of all stages. From the results, the relationships between optimum nose length and stiffness ratio are proposed for various span lengths.

This study introduced a post-tensioned precast concrete system that was developed and designed to improve the performance of joints by post-tensioning. Full-scaled specimens were tested to investigate flexural performances at the negative moment region, where the test variables were the presence of slabs, tendon types, and post-tensioned lengths. A specimen with slabs exhibited significantly higher stiffness and strength values than a specimen without slabs. Thus, it would be reasonable to consider the effects of a slab on the flexural strength for an economical design. A specimen with unbonded mono-tendons had slightly lower initial stiffness and flexural strength values than a specimen with bonded multi-tendons but showed greater flexural strength than the value specified in the design codes. The post-tensioned length was found to have no significant impact on the flexural behavior of the proposed post-tensioned precast concrete system. In addition, a finite element analysis was conducted on the proposed post-tensioned precast concrete system, and the tests and analysis results were compared in detail.
The long-term behaviors of prestressed concrete cable-stayed bridges are considerably influenced by the time dependant material characteristics such as creep and shrinkage. This study investigated the influences of the change of relative humidity by application of the CEB-FIP model and ACI model, which are generally used in the prediction of long-term behavior of concrete structures. In case of the moment of girder, CEB-FIP model predicted a bigger effect of relative humidity change than the ACI model. Furthermore, the effect was significant. Also, the long-term behaviors between these models were different each other even under the same material condition. Therefore, the prediction of the long-term behavior should be compensated after comparative analysis with the results of material tests of each construction site and between the different models.

In this study, we have proposed a method of monitoring of bridges under construction in view of the long-term behavior of the prestress concrete bridge of which the Free Cantilever Method is applied. As a method to confirm the ability of the long-term behavior of the concrete box girder, temperature sensors and strain gauges were installed, and the measured data was used to calculate creep coefficient. Moreover, we have measured the stress of the concrete box girder during construction which was applied with creep coefficient and compared with the changes in temperature to analyze the vertical displacement along the segment. In conclusion, monitoring of the FCM bridge during construction in consideration of the long-term behavior can be analyzed efficiently by suing temperature and displacement data without the use of laser displacement meter or laser delfectometer.

Prefab members have attracted attention because they can be mass-produced in factories through smart construction technology. For prefab prestressed concrete girders, it is important to manage the shapes of the girders properly from production to the pre-installation stage for consistency with the prefab floor plate during the erection process. This paper presents a camber reconstruction method using collocated strain measurements from the top and bottom of the prefab girder. In particular, the camber reconstruction method is applied to measured strain data in which the time-dependent behavior of concrete is considered after the introduction of prestress. Through Monte Carlo numerical simulations, the statistical accuracy of the reconstructed camber for a limited number of sensors, measurement errors, and nonlinear time-dependent behaviors are analyzed and validated.

In South Korea, U-type girder development was attempted as a means to increase the length of I-type girder, but due to the large self-weight according to the post-tension method, the application of rail bridges of 30m or less is typical. There are not many examples of application of pre-tension type girder. This study does not limit the post-tension method, but applies the pre-tension method to induce a reduction in self-weight and materials used due to the reduction of the cross-section. In addition, we intend to apply the on-site pre-tensioning method using the internal reaction arm of the U-type girder. The prestressed concrete U-type girder bridge is composed of a concrete deck slab and a composite section. Compared to the PSC I-type, which is an open cross-section because the cross section is closed, structural performance such as resistance and rigidity is improved, the safety of construction is increased during the manufacturing and erection stage, and the height ratio is reduced due to the reduction of its own weight. Therefore, it is possible to secure the aesthetic scenery and economical of the bridge. As a result, it is expected that efficient construction will be possible with high-quality factory-manufactured members and cast-in-place members. In this paper, the introduction of the pre-tension method on-site and the analytical performance verification of the anchoring block for tension are included.
For the evaluation of the load carrying capacity of the deteriorated PSC I girder bridge in service load state and the verification of the grade to the reinforcement effect of actual bridge strengthened by external prestressing tendons, the field test using vehicles is applied widely. Because this teat was executed in elastic range, the investigation of the characteristics of behavior caused by live load is only available. And it is impossible to estimate load carrying capacity in limit state and nonlinear behavior after that a crack is appeared. In this study, the 27-year-old prestressed concrete girder bridge is used and various load tests are performed, so we evaluate the behavior characteristics of the bridge in service load state and ultimate load state, and estimate the load carrying capacity of bridge. In addition, the artificial damages are induced from cutting internal tendons, and external tendons is added to strengthen it as much as vanished internal tendons. Next we compare the damage state with the strengthening state. In case of the application of external prestressing method to PSC I girder bridge, the present experiment result may decide more exactly the load carrying capacity of actual bridge, the amount for reinforcement, and the standard of quality control etc. at reinforcement work.
Prediction of prestressed concrete girder integral abutment bridge (IAB) load effect requires understanding of the inherent uncertainties as it relates to thermal loading, time-dependent effects, bridge material properties and soil properties. In addition, complex inelastic and hysteretic behavior must be considered over an extended, 75-year bridge life. The present study establishes IAB displacement and internal force statistics based on available material property and soil property statistical models and Monte Carlo simulations. Numerical models within the simulation were developed to evaluate the 75-year bridge displacements and internal forces based on 2D numerical models that were calibrated against four field monitored IABs. The considered input uncertainties include both resistance and load variables. Material variables are: (1) concrete elastic modulus; (2) backfill stiffness; and (3) lateral pile soil stiffness. Thermal, time dependent, and soil loading variables are: (1) superstructure temperature fluctuation; (2) superstructure concrete thermal expansion coefficient; (3) superstructure temperature gradient; (4) concrete creep and shrinkage; (5) bridge construction timeline; and (6) backfill pressure on backwall and abutment. IAB displacement and internal force statistics were established for: (1) bridge axial force; (2) bridge bending moment; (3) pile lateral force; (4) pile moment; (5) pile head/abutment displacement; (6) compressive stress at the top fiber at the mid-span of the exterior span; and (7) tensile stress at the bottom fiber at the mid-span of the exterior span. These established IAB displacement and internal force statistics provide a basis for future reliability-based design criteria development.

This study presents experimental results of Steel-PSC hybrid beams having a rear plate joint with a perfobond rib shear connector between the steel girder and the prestressed concrete girder. Three specimens of 3.9m length(3.6m span length) were tested to evaluate the flexural characteristics of the joint under the condition of the three point loading. Based on load-deflection curves and failure modes of specimens by the experimental test, it is found that the proposed joint with the perfobond rib shear connector shows the higher strength and initial stiffness and the sufficient ductility. Therefore, the suggested perfobond rib shear connector can perform effectively as the joint of the Steel-PSC hybrid structural system.

Recently, the construction industry has been changed in such a way that the cost for bridge construction should be optimized or reduced. Therefore, bridges are required be cost-effective in terms of initial construction as well as in the maintenance during service stage. In order to reduce the cost for bridge construction, the Rahmen typed structure, in which the bridge components from superstructure to substructure are integral, has many advantages to reduce the size of structural members including girders, since the loadings from superstructure may be transferred to substructure through the connecting rebars such as stud, etc. This paper studied on the continuous Up and Down Prestressed Concrete (UD PSC) girder bridge in which the reinforced concrete pier cap is integral with the part of girders in superstructure. In previous studies, it is known that the structural behavior of continuous UD PSC girder bridge is quite different compared to the one of the bridges with conventional bearings or shoes to support the loading from girders. Nevertheless, it has hardly been studied about the structural behavior of bridge with UD PSC girder. Therefore, in this study, various dynamic behaviors of continuous UD PSC girder bridge with integral pier cap have been analyzed using numerical method. Furthermore, an equation to evaluate the impact factor is suggested for the UD PSC girder bridge which has two to three continuous spans.
