  • Heat transfer enhancement and pressure loss penalty caused by three-row winglets built in three-row tube-bundles in an in-line arrangement, are compared between 'common flow up' and 'common flow down' winglet configurations. The 'common flow down' winglet-pairs recommended by the previous researchers bring about $10\%$ to $25\%$ increase in heat transfer enhancement and $20\%$ to $35\%$ increase in pressure loss penalty, in comparison with fin-tube bundles without winglets. For the 'common flow up' winglet-pairs, the spanwise distance between the trailing edges (${\Delta}y$) of winglet pairs was changed and investigated. Two types ot winglet are applied for triangular and rectangular shapes. In the triangular winglets with ${\Delta}y$=5 mm in in-line tube bundles, the heat transfer increased up to $10\%$, and simultaneously the pressure loss decreased by $8\%$ to $15\%$ for the Reynolds number (based on two times channel height) ranging from 300 to 2700, when the 'common flow up' winglets were built in. The performance of fin-tube bundles with triangular winglets is much superior to the rectangular one, because of the smaller pressure-loss penalty.

  • Infrared (IR) detectors are widely used for many applications, such as temperature measurement, intruder and fire detection, robotics and industrial equipment, thermoelstic stress analysis, medical diagnostics, and chemical analysis. Quantum detectors commonly need to be refrigerated below 80 K, and thus a cooling system should be equipped together with the detector system. The cooling load, which should be removed by the cooling system to maintain the nominal operating temperature of the detector, critically depends on the insulation efficiency of the cryochamber housing the detector. Thermal analysis of cryochamber includes the conduction heat transfer through a cold well, the gases conduction and gas outgassing, as well as radiation heat transfer, The transient cooling characteristics of an infrared detector cryochamber are investigated experimentally in the present study. The transient cooling load increases as the gas pressure is increased. Gas pressure becomes significant as the cooling process proceeds. Cool down time is also increased as the gas pressure is increased. It is also found that natural convection effects on cool down time become significant when the gas pressure is increased.

  • Fundamental informations on performance of sets of solenoid valve and nozzle were necessary to develop a target selectable spraying system. The experiments were performed for the sets of solenoid valves and flat spraying nozzles at 3 levels of the operating pressures, and the obtained results are as follows; Rise time of the system pressure to reach up to 90% of the operating pressure after the valve turned was affected by nozzle size and operating pressure. Maximum overshoot of the system pressure was about 170% not affected by the sets of valve and nozzle and operating pressure. The system pressure after its settle down within 5% of the set pressure showed good uniformity in any condition of the experiment as less as 2.3% of its coefficient of variation. Time requirement to lower the system pressure down to 50% after the valve power turned off was affected by valve and nozzle set and operating pressure.

  • Laminated insulators are largely used in the insulation of electric apparatus. This reason is based on the fact that the solid state insulators meet to electrical break-down by the weak spot theory. Thus the break-down voltage of the laminated insulators are generally affected by the density, distribution and the form of the weakspot contained in the each laminated thin insulator. In this experiment the effects of the characterics of weak spots are not studied, but the effects of the number of lamination and the pressure applied on the laminated insulator on its break-down voltage are investigated experimentaly, and got some interesting results which are reparted as follows.

  • A reactor pressure vessel, which contains fuel assemblies and reactor vessel internals, has the thermal stress resulting from the cool-down and heat-up of the vessel wall in combination with the pressure stress from system pressure resulting in large stresses. The combination of the pressure stress and thermal stress along with a decrease in fracture toughness may cause through-wall propagation of a relatively small crack. Therefore, it is necessary to define the relations between operating pressure and temperature during cool-down and heat-up. In this study, theory of fracture mechanics for a pressure/temperature limit curve is investigated and a numerical procedure for generating it is developed. Plant-specific limit curves for the Kori unit 1 plant, the oldest nuclear power plant in Korea, have been obtained for several cooling and heating rates and their results are discussed.

  • Performed here is a comparative assessment study for the generation of the pressure- temperature (P/T) limit curve of the reactor vessel. Using the cooling or heating rate and vessel material properties, the stress distribution is obtained to calculate stress intensity factors, which are compared with the material fracture toughness to determine the relations between operating pressure and temperature during cool-down and heat-up. P/T limit curves are generated with respect to crack direction, clad thickness, toughness curve, cooling or heating rate and neutron fluence, and their results are compared.

  • In this study, uniform pressure distribution with small hole on the surface of symmetric object were given to reduce the viscous frictional force. The results were as follows : 1. The velocity on upper stream were accelerated by uniform pressure distribution on symmetric objects for reducing the viscous frictional resistances. 2. The effects of the distributed small holes were reduced the viscous frictional resistances in down stream region more than upper stream due to the increasing pressure in reverse flow region. 3. The viscous skin friction on surface of symmetric objects with and without distributed small holes are effect in region of upper stream and much decreased in down stream region due to increasing of boundary layer thickness.

  • Combustion phenomenon in scale-downed combustor is investigated. As the combustor scale decreases surface to volume ratio increases and chamber size approaches quenching distance. As the combustor scales down surface to volume ratio increases resulting increased heat loss. And this heat loss can affect quenching and instability of the flame. To investigate this effect plastic mini combustor is made. Stoichiometricaly premixed Hydrogen / air gas is used as fuel. Initial chamber pressure and chamber size are varied and the effects are evaluated. Peak pressure decreased with the decrease in chamber height. As initial chamber pressure decreases peak pressure decreases and this change is more important than scale down effect till the chamber height of 1mm. With this result and further information following the experiments design parameter for micro engine can be established.

  • A comparative assessment study for a generation of the pressure-temperature (P-T) limit curve of a reactor vessel is performed in accordance with ASME code. Using cooling or heating rate and vessel material properties, stress distribution is obtained to calculate stress intensity factors, which are compared with the material fracture toughness to determine the relations between operating pressure and temperature during reactor cool-down and heat-up. P-T limit curves are analyzed with respect to defect orientation, clad thickness, toughness curve, cooling or heating rate and neutron fluence. The resulting P-T curves are compared each other.

  • This study is about accurate steel column position method in the Top down method's delicate part. When the concrete is placing, it is required that complementary measures to the transformation due to concrete pressure, column buckling, the trouble due to bar net inserting and so on. To solve the problem of exist method, the concrete is placed at the bottom of excavated hole in advance. then, the steel column is inserted into the excavated hole. With a new method try, the problem due to placing pressure and others is could be prevented. In this study, the concrete is examined with test-slump, slump flow, and compressive strength to do quantitative analysis of concrete. The factors of the experiment is plasticizer, retarder addition rate, fly ash substitution rate to cement. Considering of the new method try, the retarder added concrete properties-fluidity, viscosity, strength-is investigated as time lapsing.
