This study was conducted in order to design a piston, part of a shock absorber, and the findings after examining the features of the velocity distribution and the static pressure distribution of oil on a low-velocity piston are as follow. The compression speed of oil passing through an 0.9 mm orifice was 0.0156~0.0642 m/s, and the velocity vector of the velocity distribution and the static pressure distribution had a greater tendency to rotate when the velocity increased. In case of the velocity vector of the velocity distribution and the static pressure distribution with an 0.8mm orifice, the speed changed secondarily, the second pressure-drop was observed and as for the distribution of the streamline around the orifice, a vortex was produced around the center. As for the velocity distribution of oil passing from the compression cylinder to the compact pipe, the velocity was greater in orifice of small diameter. Also, the greater the pressure difference was between the compression cylinder and the compact cylinder, the greater the force it was upon the piston.
Pressure distributions of the soft tissue are valuable for understanding and diagnosing the disease characteristics due to the mechanical loading. Our system measures dynamic pressure distributions in real-time under the general PC environment, and analyzes various foot disorders. Main features of the developed system are as follows: (1) With the resistive pressure sensor matrix of 40${\times}$40 cells, the data is sent to the PC with the maximum sampling rate of 40 frames/sec. (2) For each frame, contact area, pressure and force are analyzed by graphic forms. Thus, various biomechanical parameters are easily determined at specific areas of interests. (3) A certain stance phase can be chosen for the analysis from the continuous walking, and the detailed biomechanical analysis can be done according to an arbitrary line dividing anterior/posterior or medial/lateral plantar areas. (4) The center of pressure (COP) is calculated and traced from the pressure distribution data, and thus the movement of the COP is monitored in detail. A few experiments revealed that our system successfully measured the dynamic plantar distribution during normal walking.

Purpose : This study was conducted among 195 adults in their 20s. To analyze the impact of the slope types of the scapulae on the plantar surface of the foot, the average pressure (AP), the maximum pressure (MP), the average of local distribution values, and the average movement of the center of pressure (COP) of the different slope types of the scapulae were compared. Method : The anterior-posterior slopes of the scapulae were measured by comparing the slopes of the left and right sides of the scapulae based on the differences in the height and the slope of the coracoid process and the angulus inferior scapulae. Those whose left side of the scapulae had an anterior slope were categorized as type 1, and those whose right side of the scapulae had an anterior slope, as type 2. The average plantar pressure, the center of plantar pressure, the maximum plantar pressure, and local distribution values were analyzed using a plantar pressure analyzer of the FSA. Result : In terms of the AP of the left and right feet, there was no statistically significant difference both in types 1 and 2 on the left and right feet. The comparison results of the MP and the average of local distribution values of the two slope types of the scapulae showed that there was no statistically significant difference on the X-axis both in types 1 and 2 on the left and right feet, but that there was a large statistically significant difference on the Y-axis both in types 1 and 2. That is, the MP of the right foot of the left anterior slope type was located more on the hindfoot than that of the right anterior slope type, and the MP of the left foot of the left anterior slope type was located more on the hindfoot than that of right anterior slope type. Conclusion : This study can be used as fundamental data to predict differences in the location and size of the COP and changes in plantar pressure distribution depending on the slope types of the scapulae, and control the distribution for therapeutic purposes.

Removal rate and Within Wafer Non-Uniformity (WIWNU), the most critical issues in Chemical Mechanical Polish (CMP) process, are related to the pressure distribution, wafer shape, slurry flow, mechanical property of pad and etc. Among them, wafer warp generated by other various manufacturing process of wafer may induce the deviation of pressure distribution on the backside of wafer. In the convex shaped wafer the pressure onto the backside of wafer is higher than that of perfectly flat shaped wafer. Besides, such an added pressure is in proportion to the curvature of wafer. That is, the bigger the curvature of wafer becomes the higher the removal rate goes. And the WIWNU is known to be directly related to the pressure distribution on the wafer as well. In other words, the deviation of pressure distribution is in proportion to the WIWNU. In this paper, it is found that the wafer shape may be modified through heating the backside of it and thus properly changed pressure onto the backside of it may improve the WIWNU.

This paper presents a method for evaluating the lubrication characteristics between the plunger and cylinder in a radial type plunger pump. A numerical analysis is carried out in order to obtain the pressure distribution and acting forces between the plunger and cylinder. The pressure distribution is also measured experimentally by using pressure transducer through the cam type test machine. The experimental pressure distribution result is compared with the numerical result which is estimated by the computer simulation. In conclusion, the acting forces to the plunger are expressed for the operating conditions such as clearance, supply pressure, rotation speed and viscosity of oil.

An experimental investigation on the leakage characteristics of a labyrinth seal, high-low seal, is studied. Pressure distribution and leakage flow rate are measured along with the shaft speed and the pressure difference between the entrance and the exit. Pressure distribution vanes almost linearly along the seal and the leakage flow rate increases as the increase of the pressure difference. Furthermore, it is found that both the shaft speed and the shaft vibration have no influence on the leakage of the labyrinth seal.
In bicycle design, saddle is the major part which effects the subjective comfort of rider. This study examines the correlation between the subjective comfort and elastic body pressure. The elastic body pressure measuring instrument for free-form surface such as saddle is developed by force sensor register, A/D converter and computer. The subjective comfort is measured quantit- atively by 11-point scale method and the elastic body pressure distribution is obtained through 3 different saddles at 4 postures. The pressure distribution is presented by computerized equi- pressure contour. While mean pressure, standard deviation of pressure, maximum pressure are inversely proportional to subjective comfort, the modified saddle-bearing weight which is the surface integral of pressure is directly proportional. Consequently, standard deviation of pressure is most important characteristic which affects variation of subjective comfort.
The purpose of water distribution system is supplying water to users by maintaining appropriate pressure and water quality. For efficient monitoring of the water distribution system, determination of optimal locations for pressure monitoring is essential. In this study, entropy theory was applied to determine the optimal locations for pressure monitoring. The entropy which is defined as the amount of information was calculated from the pressure change due to the variation of demand reflected the abnormal conditions at nodes, and the emitter function (fire hydrant) was used to reproduce actual pressure change pattern in EPANET. The optimal combination of monitoring points for pressure detection was determined by selecting the nodes receiving maximum information from other nodes using genetic algorithm. The Ozger's and a real network were evaluated using the proposed model. From the results, it was found that the entropy theory can provide general guideline to select the locations of pressure sensors installation for optimal design and monitoring of the water distribution systems. During decision-making phase, optimal combination of monitoring points can be selected by comparing total amount of information at each point especially when there are some constraints of installation such as limitation of available budget.
In order to quantify the flow distribution characteristics of APR+ reactor, a test was performed on a test facility, ACOP ($\underline{A}$PR+ $\underline{C}$ore Flow & $\underline{P}$ressure Test Facility), having a length scale of 1/5 referring to the prototype plant. The major parameters are core inlet flow and outlet pressure distribution and sectional pressure drops along the major flow path inside reactor vessel. To preserve the flow characteristics of prototype plant, the test facility was designed based on a preservation of major flow path geometry. An Euler number is considered as primary dimensionless parameter, which is conserved with a 1/40.9 of Reynolds number scaling ratio. ACOP simplifies each fuel assembly into a hydraulic simulator having the same axial flow resistance and lateral cross flow characteristics. In order to supply boundary condition to estimate thermal margins of the reactor, the distribution of inlet core flow and core exit pressure were measured in each of 257 fuel assembly simulators. In total, 584 points of static pressure and differential pressures were measured with a limited number of differential pressure transmitters by developing a sequential operation system of valves. In the current study, reactor flow characteristics under the balanced four-cold leg flow conditions at each of the cold legs were quantified, which is a part of the test matrix composing the APR+ flow distribution test program. The final identification of the reactor flow distribution was obtained by ensemble averaging 15 independent test data. The details of the design of the test facility, experiment, and data analysis are included in the current paper.
