  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to compare plantar pressure distribution between affected side and unaffected side and to analyze plantar pressure distribution of affected side according to the extent of hemineglect in the adult hemiplegia. Methods : Twenty-five hemiplegia participated in this study. The analysis of plantar pressure distribution was conducted by the F-scan system, and the extent of hemineglect was evaluated with line-bisection test. While the subject walked about 10 meters in their comfortable speed the plantar pressure was evaluated and stored. Results : Total contact area, AP CoP trajectory, contact pressure of mid-foot of the affected side were significantly different from the unaffected side. Total contact area, AP CoP trajectory and contact pressure of mid-foot were smaller than those of unaffected side. In the comparison among the group according to the extent of hemineglect, AP CoP trajectory of subject who has severe hemineglect was significantly different from the patient that has no hemineglect and it was shorter than that of no hemineglect. Conclusion : The plantar pressure distribution was generally different between affected side and unaffected side and the hemineglect affected negatively the patient to move CoP forwardly while walking. Accordingly, it will help the clinician to understand the hemineglect which has an effect on abnormal walking and to intervent the hemiplegia who has a neglection to the affected side.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the plantar pressure distribution between the affected and unaffected side in adult hemiplegia during gait with the use of a quad-cane. Methods: Thirty-four stroke patients from 34 to 83 years of age were enrolled in this study, and in random order, all patients were asked to walk at their most comfortable speed three times along a walkway with the use of quad-cane over a period of three days. Plantar pressure distribution was measured with regard to foot contact pattern and center of pressure (CoP) trajectories during the stance phase, progressing from heel-strike to toe-off. The F-scan system was used to compare the foot pressure of the affected and unaffected sides. Results: A significant reduction in the total contact area, the width of fore foot (FF) and hind foot (HF), and anterior/posterior (AP) CoP trajectory of the affected side was found. However, contact pressure of the hind foot on the affected side during walking increased when compared to that on the unaffected side. Conclusion: We demonstrated that plantar pressure distribution on the affected side of adult hemiplegia patients was generally poorer than that on the unaffected side when these patients walked with cane assistance. However, the use of a quad-cane was shown to increase contact pressure of the hind foot on the affected side because weight can be borne on the affected side during heel-strike with use of the cane.

  • Effects of pressure-side winglet width on the tip leakage flow and aerodynamic loss downstream of a turbine blade with a pressure-side squealer rim have been investigated for the tip gap-to-span ratio of h/s = 1.36%. The pressure-side squealer has a fixed height-to-span ratio of $h_p/s=3.75%$ and the pressure-side winglet, which is installed at an elevation of tip surface, has width-to-pitch ratios of w/p = 2.64%, 5.28%, 7.92% and 10.55%. The results show that with increasing w/p, aerodynamic loss in the passage vortex region decreases, whereas that in the leakage flow region increases. As a result, the mass-averaged loss coefficient all over the measurement plane tends to decrease minutely with the increment of w/p. It is concluded that the pressure-side winglet for the pressure-side squealer tip can hardly contribute to the tip-leakge loss reduction.

  • To investigate the effects of the side-orifice on the pressure drop for single-phase flow, a series of experiments have been carried out with 16 different downstream test sections with various combinations of side-orifice shapes, different numbers of side-orifices, and different arrangements of the side-orifice using water as a working fluid. From the measurements of the pressure drop and the flow rate, the pressure loss coefficient of the side-orifice(s) has been evaluated. Based on the total number of 529 present data, an empirical correlation for the pressure loss coefficient has been developed in terms of Reynolds number and geometric parameters, such as area ratio, equivalent diameter, leading edge, and average width of side-orifice.

  • In railway systems, the performance of turnout is one of the most important factors to improve the train's speed. Standard turnout, in which one track is split in main track side and turnout side. Because the main track side remains linear, speed restriction can be alleviated while train pass the main track side. The factors of speed restriction in main track side are strength of crossing and tongue rail, wheel back side pressure of guard rail and wing rail. In this study, we measured wheel back side pressure of guard rail to compare improved turnout with present turnout. In result, the wheel back side pressure of improved turnout was lower than present turnout, so its performance was proved.

  • The purpose of this study was to confirm the difference of garment pressure and comfort depend on age group wearing the Korean skirt-band. A loadcell was used for measuring garment pressure, and 25 female subjects were chosen for each of young, middle, and old age groups. Garment pressure was measured in front, side, and back parts of the body. The results were as follows: 1. The younger the subjects, the greater the garment pressure. This suggests that the young age group wear the Korean skirt-band more tightly than needed. 2. The measurements of the pressure in 3 parts of the body were different. In young and middle age groups, pressure decreased from side to back, while in the old age group the order was side, back, and (rent. 3. The young age group felt high restriction of pressure. And the pressure in side part of body is the greatest among the three measurement.

  • FCP requires different curvatures and shapes according to the method of division, and it is necessary to manufacture a formwork accordingly. FCP production equipment consists of CNC equipment and side shape control equipment. This can be implemented in various shapes of upper, lower, and side surfaces. In the side shape control equipment, it is implemented as a variable side formwork. Among the required performance of the variable side formwork, there is stiffness against side pressure, which needs to be verified. Therefore, in this study, the FCP fabrication experiment is conducted with the developed variable side formwork. By analyzing the error in the shape of the fabricated FCP, the lateral pressure resistance capability of the side form is measured and verified.

  • This study measured and analyzed pressure at each measurement part of imported compression stockings sold in Korea to provide basic information to establish a pressure standard and grade ranking. This study used 40 medical compression stockings imported from 6 countries. Pressure measurements were taken at 11 points: front side and back side of ankle, end-point of the gastrocnemius muscle, front, inner side, back, and outer side of calf, back side of below knew girth, inner side, and outer side of mid-thigh girth, and inner side of thigh girth. AMI 3037-10 and AMI 3037-2 were used for measurements taken inside an environmental chamber at a temperature of $21^{\circ}C$ and a relative humidity (RH) of 65%. For the measurements, 11 air pack sensors were attached to a wooden model leg (Hohenstein) and three measurements were taken at each measurement point in three minutes. The average of these measurements was used for analysis. The findings of this study were as follows. As for the front side of the ankle, of the 40 products, 14 products (6 USA, 2 Swiss, 3 Italian, and 2 Taiwanese) were within the pressure range indicated on the product label; however, no German products fell within the pressure range. A total of 8 products (5 USA, 1 Swiss, 1 Italian, and 1 German) were gradient compression type; however, no Japanese or Taiwanese product were of this type. The majority of products had the highest pressure at the end-point of the gastrocnemius muscle. Only 3 products, 1 USA (Jobst Opaque 30-40mmHg), 1 Swiss (Sigvaris Cotton 34-46mmHg) and 1 Italian (Jobstocking 25-32mmHg), had measurements that met the indicated standard pressure, were a gradient compression type, and met the overall standard for compression stockings.

  • This paper presents operating characteristics of internal heat exchanger(IHX) for $CO_2$ geothermal heat pump in the heating mode. Mass flow rate of $CO_2$, inlet temperatures of $CO_2$ at high and low pressure side were selected as main effect factors by using fractional factorial DOE(Design of Experiments). And RSM(Response Surface Method) was used in optimization phase. The results show that heat transfer rate of IHX increases when either inlet temperature of low pressure side decreases or inlet temperature of high pressure side increases. Effectiveness of IHX increases with increasing of inlet temperature of either high pressure side or low pressure side. Finally, performance contour map was provided over the operation ranges of the main design factors.
