A Study on the Shock Wave Caused by VCE in Enclosure (밀폐공간에서의 VCE에 의한 충격파 고찰)

  • In order to establish detailed plans for fire protection and reduce the possible fire accidents in the future, a study on the shock wave caused by VCE(Vapor Cloud Explosion) is very important. Destruction phenomena of structure by gas explosion is due to the explosion pressure and heat. Explosion pressure is a kind of energy converted from the gas mixture explosion. Therefore, the propagation progress of shock wave and flame is very important. This study investigated the shock wave caused by VCE in enclosure with opened vent port. From a result, the vent port of top at the straight line of ignition and leak location was opened most rapidly, and the vertical vent port not opened.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the injection performance of crack repair method in concrete structure. To improve the quality of the concrete structure caulking material was injected into the crack of building that were planned to be demolished and injection properties of various repair method were compared and assessed according to type of crack. Results from the test showed that when cracks and injection port were integrated and the injection port wasn't blocked repair material was able to be injected even below around 40㎏/㎠ pressure. Moreover, effective pressure each type of packer showed wide range varying from 200-400㎏/㎠. As for drill method for injection port, core drill method has shown to be more effective compared to the air pump method

  • Pressure variation is one of the major sources on noise emission in the axial type oil piston pumps. Therefore, it is necessary that the pressure variation characteristics of the oil hydraulic piston pumps be clarified to reduce the pump noise. Pressure variations in a cylinder at the discharge region and the pump noise were simultaneously measured with discharge pressures and rotational speeds during the pump working. To investigate the effects of the pre-compression and the V-notch in the valve plate, we used the three types of valve plates. In this research, it is clear that the pressure variation characteristics of axial type oil piston pumps is deeply related to the pre-compression and to the V-notch design in valve plate. Therefore, we could reduce the pump noise by using the appropriate pre-compression angle and the notch design that are between the suction port and the discharge port in valve plate.

  • The numerical simulation on the internal flow characteristics of the adaptor in a two-fluid nozzle has been performed to investigate the effects of carrier air supplying parameters using a commercial code. The four adaptor models with the different positions in the carrier air supplying port were considered at the fixed conditions of urea-water solution and carrier air supplying. As the results from the numerical analysis, the internal pressure of the adaptor was varied with the port position for carrier air supplying, and it shows lower pressure value than the atmospheric pressure. Consequently, the flowrate of urea-water solution issuing from the feeding injector with the adaptor varied up to 30% with the port positions for the carrier air supplying. When the carrier air is supplied from the side from the feeding injector axis and the upper part from the feeding injector tip, the flowrate of urea-water solution issuing from the feeding injector with the adaptor show higher value than other carrier air supplying conditions.

  • The impingement of the fuel spray on the wall within the combustion chamber in compact high-pressure injection engines and on the intake port wall in port-fuel-inje- ction type engines is unavoidable. It is important to understand the characteristics of impinging spray because it influences on the rate of fuel evaporation and droplet distrib- ution etc. In this study, the numerical study for the characteristics of spray/wall interaction is performed to test the applicability and reliability of spray/wall impingement models. The impingement models used are stick model, reflect model, jet model and Watkins and Park's model. The head of wall-jet eminating radilly outward from the spray impingement site contains a vortex. Small droplets are deflected away from the wall by the stagnation flow field and the gas wall-jet flow. While the larger droplets with correspondingly higher momentum are impinged on the wall surface and them are moved along the wall and are rolled up by wall-jet vortex. Using the Watkins and Park's model the predicted results show the most reasonable trend. The rate of increase of spread and the height of the developing wall-spray is predicted to decrease with increased ambient pressure(gas density).

  • A swirl ratio of a charge in the cylinder could be calculated by measuring both the rotary speed of paddle and the intake air flow rate in the swirl measurement apparatus fur several positions of valve lift. The automation of the swirl ratio measurement for a cylinder head is achieved by controlling both the valve lift of cylinder head and a suction pressure of the surge tank, instead of controlling them manually. PID control of the surge tank pressure and positioning a valve lift of the cylinder head are also achieved by using two step motors, respectively. Rotating speed of a paddle are measured using an optical sensor and a counter. Flow rate are measured from ISA 1932 flow nozzle by reading a differential pressure gauge position using IEEE-1394 camera. Time to measure the swirl ratio for a port in the cylinder head is drastically reduced from an hour to 3 minutes by automation control of the apparatus.

  • Acoustic and pressure type seabed installed wave sensors have advantage in observing long period infra-gravity wave and tsunami, while buoy type wave gauges which measure acceleration of the moored buoy motion are not able to detect long period waves. That's why most of the Japanese coastal wave observation sensors are seabed installed typed ones. Nationwide Japanese coastal wave observation systems with seabed installed sensors are gradually clarifying long-period tsunami profiles and infra-gravity wave characteristics (Nagai.et.al., 1996, 1997,2000,2002a,2002b).   • An experimental investigation was conducted to clarify the combustion characteristics and merge characteristics of PMMA-GOX and PE-GOX hybrid motor using multi-port fuel grain configuration. The regression rate of multi-port fuel grain is higher than the regression rate of single-port fuel grain by thermal conduction and chamber pressure. The merge of multi-port has an effect on hybrid rocket performance by change of a combustion area.

  • Using the solenoid driven gas injection valve, Hydrogen fuel supply system was made. It was attached to a single cylinder research engine and intake port injection type hydrogen fueled S.I. engine was constructed. Engine performance, emission characteristics, and abnormal combustion were studied through the engine test performed with the variations of fuel-air equivalence ratio and spark timing. Compared with gasoline, hydrogen burns so fast that cylinder peak pressure and temperature are higher and NO is emitted more at full load condition. IN the case of intake port injection type engine, COVimep becomes lower due to the well-mixing of air and fuel, and engine output is lower owing to the low volumetric efficiency. As fuel-air equivalence ratio goes up, the combustion speed increases, and COVimep decreases. NO emission peaks slightly lean of stoichiometric. As spark timing advances and fuel-air equivalence ratio goes up, the cylinder peak pressure and temperature become higher, so abnormal combustions take place easily.
