  • For the purpose of ground improvement by means of soil flushing systems. Incorporated technique with prefabricated vertical drains have been used for dewatering from fine-grained soils. The laboratory model tests were performed by using the flushing tracer solutions for silty soils and recorded the tracer concentration changes with the elapsed time and flow rates. A mathematical model for prediction of contaminant transport using the PVD technology has been developed. The clean-up times for the predictions on both soil condition indicate more of a sensitivity to the dispersivity parameter than to the extracted flow rate and vertical velocity parameters. Based on the results of the analyses, numerical analysis indicate that the most important factor to the in-situ soil remediation in prefabricated vertical drain system is the effective diameter of contaminated soil.

  • When a new member of a scaffold is developed, it is necessary to follow the standard. Therefore, all scaffolds will assume the same structure. The aim of this study was to establish a new method for evaluating scaffold performance. In the present study, a buckling analysis of prefabricated scaffolds was executed, using the shear rigidity of the vertical and the horizontal frames as parameters. From the results, an equation is proposed for evaluating the strength of prefabricated scaffolds.

  • Prefabricated Modular Buildings are increasingly becoming popular in the construction industry as a method to achieve financially economical buildings in a very short construction time. This increasing demand for modular construction has expanded into multi-storey applications where the effect of lateral loads such as seismic loads becomes critical. However, there is a lack of detailed scientific research that has explored the behaviour of modular buildings and their connection systems against seismic loads. This paper will therefore present the nonlinear time history analysis of a multi-storey modular building against several ground motion records. The critical elements that need special attention in designing a modular building in similar seismic conditions is discussed with a deeper explanation of the behaviour of the overall system.

  • Early childhood caries is a widespread condition that requires attention; however, its treatment remains a challenge in terms of child behavior management. This study describes the usefulness of customized zirconia crowns for the restoration of deciduous teeth through the evaluation of some cases. Three cases are described: a 29-month-old girl who presented with severe early childhood caries affecting anterior tooth, a 50-month-old boy who presented with extensive caries of his anterior tooth, and 70-month-old girl who presented with extensive caries of his primary posterior dentition. These prefabricated, zirconium-based ceramic crowns ($Nusmile^{TM}$ NuSmile) are available in various sizes, shapes and colors. Before the treatment, radiographs and intraoral photographs were taken to evaluate the appropriateness of treatment. Our findings indicate that customized zirconia crowns may be appropriate for restoring the deciduous teeth. Further long-term clinical studies are required to clarify the usefulness of this restorative method.

  • The Prefabricated Vertical Drain(PVD) method is most widely used technique to accelerate the consolidation process and to strengthen the weak clayey soil in situ. Uncertainty in the consolidation process via the Prefabricated Vertical Drain(PVD), and the effects of uncertainty on the design of PVDs, are investigated in this paper, Among the effect factors, the coefficient of horizontal(radial) consolidation, C$\sub$h/, is the most important and sensitivity analysis of the degree of consolidation with respect to the other effect factors are carried out. For the reliable determination of uncertain quantities, the laboratory and in-situ tests are carried out. Henceforth, probability analysis that take the uncertainty into account are executed and reliable design method is provided in practice.

  • A prefabricated composite hollow slab with perforated I-beams was suggested for the replacement of deteriorated concrete decks or the construction of new composite bridges with long-span slabs. Composite slabs with embedded I-beams have considerably higher stiffness and strength. For the application of prefabricated composite slabs to bridges, joints between slabs should satisfy the requirements of the ultimate limit state and the serviceability limit state. In this paper, three types of the detail for loop joints were selected and their structural performance in terms of strength and crack control was investigated through static tests on continuous composite slabs. A main parameter was the detail of the joint, such as an ordinary loop joint and loop joint with additional reinforcements. Even though there was no connection of the steel beams at the joints, the loop joints showed good performance in terms of strength. In terms of crack control, the loop joint with additional reinforcements showed better performance. In ultimate limit state, the continuous composite slabs showed good moment redistribution and ductility.

  • Well known and widely used in urban area and limited installation condition, a low noise and vibration piling method which has being called Bored Prefabricated Piling Method was reviewed in terms of design guide, and introduced a few case as well. Among the areas being applied of that method, a structural guide of architectural foundation was reviewed and compared to civil engineering foundation area to provide wider information for the foundation engineers. With introducing a few case application including pile load testing review especially dynamic testing in normal building foundation work, engineers may have a useful information on the design and construction of the piling method even different engineering area. It may also make enhancement a view of foundation engineering knowledge to various pile foundation area.

  • Bolted connections are used commonly in the precast reinforced concrete structures. In such structures, to perform structural analysis, behaviour of connections must be determined. In this study, elastic rotation stiffness of semi-rigid bolted beam connections, applied in industrial precast structures, are determined by finite element methods. The results obtained from numerical solutions are compared with an experimental study carried out for the same connections. Furthermore, stress distributions of the connection zone are determined and a reinforcement scheme is proposed. Thus, a more appropriate reinforcement arrangement for the connection zone is enabled. The connection joint of the prefabricated frame is described as rigid, hinged or elastic, and a static analysis of the frame system is performed for each case. Values of bending moments and displacements obtained from the three solutions are compared and the effects of elastic connection are discussed.

  • Discharge capacity test is carried out to find out influencing factors on discharge capacity of prefabricated horizontal drains to improve weak dredged clay. Four representative prefabricated horizontal drains are selected based on the size of drain as well as the shape of core. Test is carried out for 10 days at each three level of confining pressure for all drains. Effects of elapsed time, confining pressure, hydraulic gradient and strength of filter and core on discharge capacities are examined. It is found that discharge capacity of drain, which has deformable core or has a possibility of squeezing filter into core, decreases more with time due to its low strength. As confining pressure increases, discharge capacity decreases due to the squeezing of filter into core.

  • This study proposes an automated assembly performance evaluation method for prefabricated steel structures (PSSs) using machine learning methods. Assembly component images were segmented using a modified version of the receptive field pyramid. By factorizing channel modulation and the receptive field exploration layers of the convolution pyramid, highly accurate segmentation results were obtained. After completing segmentation, the positions of the bolt holes were calculated using various image processing techniques, such as fuzzy-based edge detection, Hough's line detection, and image perspective transformation. By calculating the distance ratio between bolt holes, the assembly performance of the PSS was estimated using the k-nearest neighbors (kNN) algorithm. The effectiveness of the proposed framework was validated using a 3D PSS printing model and a field test. The results indicated that this approach could recognize assembly components with an intersection over union (IoU) of 95% and evaluate assembly performance with an error of less than 5%.
